California Governor Gavin Newsom will face a recall election on September 14, 2021.
That date was announced on Thursday by the state’s Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis. Kounalakis said in a statement that Sept. 14 was a “fair and reasonable date,” but also noted that “the window of time from which I could select a date was narrow.”
“It has always been my intention to choose an election date that gives election officials and the public ample time to ensure a smooth election with broad participation,” she said. “Conducting this election on September 14 fulfills my statutory requirements, and provides the time needed for officials to prepare and inform voters.”

State law had mandated that a Legislative committee take 30 days to consider the recall cost, a strategy that Democrats enacted four years ago to delay the recall of State Sen. Josh Newman.

Reed Hastings, the co-ceo of Netflix, has shelled out a whopping $3 million to a fund opposed to the recall of California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The contribution was reported to the California Secretary of State on Thursday afternoon, and is the largest single contribution to date to the Stop The Republican Recall. (Hat tip: Politico).
Hastings, a longtime donor to Democrats, actually contributed $7 million in 2018 to the California Charter Schools Association’s effort to elect former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in the year’s gubernatorial primary. But Villaraigosa lost to Newsom and Republican John Cox, who advanced to the general election.
Stop The Republican Recall includes other major funding from the California Democratic Party, Professional Engineers in California Government Pecg-pac and Stewart Resnick.
Newsom will likely have a huge war chest. He also has been raising directly for his 2022 campaign fund, with recent donors including JJ Abrams and Katie McGrath,...

Republican gubernatorial candidate, businessman John Cox, debuted his campaign Tuesday in Sacramento, but his live political stunt involving a bear drew heavy criticism.
Cox spoke to reporters in California’s capital about the need to replace Gavin Newsom, whom he referred to as a “beauty,” with himself, “a beast.” The speech was punctuated with a disinterested 1,000-pound bear literally lumbering around behind Cox.

“The beautiful politicians have failed California,” Cox said. “We need big beastly changes to save it. I’ll cut taxes, make California more affordable and shake up Sacramento.”
PETA weighed in this evening with a tweet saying, “It’s shameful that @BeastJohnCox would exploit a bear for publicity.

Per Emily Hoeven of CalMatters, Cox told reporters that “for better or worse, we need to get this message out” about the recall.
“I wish that didn’t need to be the case. You have to cut through the media.”

Caitlyn Jenner has come out against trans girls competing against biological girls in school sports.
Caught in an impromptu street interview with Disclose.TV, which describes itself as “a non-partisan online community of like-minded users who observe together how world events unfold in the great theater of our time,” Jenner addressed the issue when asked for her point of view.
Jenner, a former athlete and reality TV star who announced her own transition from Bruce Jenner in an April 2015 interview, is running in California’s gubernatorial recall election. She will sit down with Fox News’ Sean Hannity for an interview that will be telecast on May 5. It is her first with a national outlet since announcing her candidacy.
In the Disclose.tv interview, posted today to Twitter, Jenner was asked about legislation in other states that would ban biological boys who have transitioned from participating in girls sports. “This is a question of fairness,...

Caitlyn Jenner, who announced her plans to run in California’s gubernatorial recall election, will sit down with Fox News’ Sean Hannity for an interview that will be telecast on May 5.
Fox News said that the interview, to take place at her Malibu home, will be her first with a national outlet since announcing her candidacy. This will be her second interview with the network.
Jenner is targeting California Governor Gavin Newsom’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and the state’s regulatory and tax environment in her campaign, but the decision to do Hannity could reflect a desire to shore up support on the right in an expected crowded field of candidates.
Jenner’s run already has generated considerable publicity, something that could give her an advantage over Republican rivals who also are running in the recall election. They include San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, businessman John Cox and former congressman Doug Ose.

Caitlyn Jenner announced that she has filed initial paperwork to run for governor in California.
The news comes as state election officials appear ready to approve a recall election of Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom. Jenner plans to make a formal campaign announcement in the coming weeks. In running, Jenner has arguably become the most prominent transgender person to seek elected office in the country (transgender politicians like Sarah McBride in Deleware and Danica Roem in Virginia have won state legislature seats in recent years).
I’m in! California is worth fighting for.
