Niki Caro is back to work following McFarland, USA with Callas, a biopic centered around the relationship legendary opera singer Maria Callas (Noomi Rapace) had with Aristotle Onassis over almost two decades. She's acknowledged to be one of the more important and recognizable opera legends of all time and certainly was one of the most emotive and visually dramatic. Caro adapted the screenplay from Alfonso Signorini's biography "Too Proud, Too Fragile" and the first poster is actually a riff on the cover (see right) of Signorini's book. Unfortunately it appears the book isn't available in English as I was only able to find Spanish and Italian versions at Amazon. Content Media will handle worldwide sales and Content's President of Film, Jamie Carmichael said, "We fell in love with Callas instantly. It's such an emotional and powerful story of one of the world's great romances - and we're certain that...

Hollywood has been trying forever to bring the story of opera legend Maria Callas to the big screen. Years and years ago Eva Mendes was attached to a project that never happened, while last year Meryl Streep was briefly linked to a movie that would've been helmed by the late Mike Nichols. But perhaps churning the longest in development has been "Callas," based on the Alfonso Signorini book "Too Proud, Too Fragile." Eva Green was at one point slated to lead but moved on from the project, and four years ago, "Whale Rider" helmer, Niki Caro, signed up to direct. That was pretty much the last we heard of it, but it looks like things are pushing ahead. We all remember when pictures of a nude sunbathing Kate Middleton made their rounds on the internet last year, and now the Duchess has been violated once again.
Chi magazine has released images of a pregnant Middleton sunning herself in Mustique while wearing a two-piece bikini on her babymoon with Prince William, and the Palace is furious.
Editor-in-Chief Alfonso Signorini declared, "We cannot talk about a violation of privacy when we publish pictures of public people in a public place. The photographs of Kate and William were bought from an international photo agency.”
"You can't compare this with the media persecution of Lady Diana. I cannot stress enough that the photos were taken in a public place, not private property."
In reply, a rep from St. James Palace stated, "We are disappointed that photographs of the Duke and Duchess on a private holiday look likely to be published overseas. This...

Poor Kate Middleton. She just can't catch a break. Chi, the Italian tabloid that printed those infamous topless sunbathing pics of the Duchess of Cambridge back in September, is vehemently defending its decision to publish photos of the pregnant royal in a bikini while on holiday with Prince William on the Caribbean island of Mustique. "They are images of such unexceptional normality that there is only limited mention of them on the cover of the magazine," Chi's editor, Alfonso Signorini, told the BBC. "The photographs, which can in no way be considered scandalous, were bought from an international photo agency, do not harm the image of the protagonists and the reaction of the media seems to me...

Chi is at at again. The Italian tabloid magazine has printed pictures of Kate Middleton's pregnant bikini body in its latest issue, just five months after it published images of the Duchess of Cambridge sunbathing in the nude during a private vacation in France. Out of respect for the royal couple's privacy, most mainstream publications, including Us Weekly, opted not to run the photos. On Wednesday, Feb. 13, Chi's editor in chief, Alfonso Signorini, defended his decision to distribute the pictures from Middleton and Prince William's recent [...]...

HollywoodNews.com: The Italian magazine 'Chi' has decided to join in on the topless Kate Middleton scandal and has published more photos of her from her private vacation at a private residence. The magazine ended up publishing a 26-page spread that includes 50 pictures of Kate without her bikini top on, states RadarOnline. And editor Alfonso Signorini doesn't think there is anything illegal going on here. "These pictures were taken while the couple were on a terrace and they were taken from a public place so there is no suggestion of an invasion of privacy," Signorini commented. Almost all of the music biopics that come around these days focus on rock musicians at their peak in the latter part of the 20th century — one of the many reasons they all feel the same. A different perspective might prove an advantage for Niki Caro, the helmer of Whale Rider, as she tells the life story of opera singer Maria Callas.
THR informs us of the project, which will be co-written by Alfonso Signorini; he’s the author of the book upon which this is based, Too Proud, Too Fragile. Andrea Zoso of De Angelis Group calls this “one of the most important films in the De Angelis dossier,” praising the source material as “the most in-depth to date about the life of the controversial opera star.”

Rome based production company, De Angelis Group, have lined up filmmaker Niki Caro (Whale Rider) to write and direct Callas, a biographical feature chronicling the life of infamous opera diva Maria Callas. The life of the performer, whose scandal-filled personal dramas almost eclipsed her notoriety as a singer, has, until now, failed to receive an accurate film treatment. "We fully expect Callas to become one of the most important films in the De Angelis dossier," remarked Company President, Andrea Zoso, of the project, which will be based on the novel Maria Callas Too Proud, Too Fragile by Alfonso Signorini.
