This article contains spoilers for Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 episode 1.
Much of “Atlanta,” the first episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s 12th and final season, plays out as we’ve come to expect from a Larry David misadventure. Our favorite misanthrope heads to the city of peaches to just generally piss everyone off. Victims of Larry this time around include a wealthy South African entrepreneur (played by District 9‘s Sharlto Copley), a hotel maid at the end of her rope (Ann Hurd), and even Leon’s beloved Auntie Rae (Ellia English).
It’s all fun and good but it’s admittedly missing some of the “oomph” you’d expect from the premiere of a beloved comedy’s final season. Thankfully that oomph arrives during the show’s end credits, which play over what is surely one of the best visual gags in the series’ entire run. Behold: Larry David’s mugshot.

Well, it’s finally happening, folks. After years of fans asking for it, and various cast and crew members turning them down, it seems that we’ll soon see a crossover between The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. Exact details on how and when it’ll go down haven’t been revealed, but it’s coming, and that alone is hugely exciting.
The news was announced during The Walking Dead‘s panel earlier tonight at New York Comic-Con, where creator Robert Kirkman teased fans with the following when asked about a possible crossover:
“I get that question all the time. I think that we’ve finally gotten to a place with Fear the Walking Dead where it has its own identify. There’s one character that is going to go from one show and appear in the other show, that I will not name.”

Watching a TV show about a zombie apocalypse and complaining that it’s a bit gory is kind of silly. Yet that’s what precisely what some viewers of the season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead did. Shocked by what can happen in a world full of hungry reanimated corpses and desperate survivors, they filed complaints with the FCC demanding that AMC tone down the violence in the show for good, possibly recommending that the walkers now merely give their victims a friendly hug and the survivors hold dainty little tea parties.
It’s an absurd complaint, so naturally, fans greeted producer Gale Ann Hurd’s revelation that they had indeed toned down the violence in the latter half of the season with surprised disappointment. Now, viewers are justifiably worried that the upcoming season 8 will be neutered in some way, with the show unable to provide the sticky, guts-fuelled zombie...

Of all the criticisms that could be leveled at Kurt Sutter, overthinking a character’s backstory isn’t quite the first to come to mind. But the Sons Of Anarchy creator claims his efforts to delve into a violent vigilante’s motivations were what kept one of his visions off the big screen. In this Looper interview from the fall, Sutter says he was tapped to rewrite the script for the comic-book adaptation that would become Punisher: War Zone, but his ideas ended up being too far out there for Marvel Knights (the studio arm for the company’s “darker” fare) and producer Gale Ann Hurd (The Walking Dead).
Although The Punisher’s backstory seemed a perfect fit for Sutter, the Southpaw scribe actually wanted to “[shake] up Marvel, man!” with a new treatment, but that line of thinking ran counter to what the studio wanted him to do. Sutter ...

Sons of Anarchy and Wired Karl Sutter has been chatting about his The Punisher movie script that never got made...
Marvel’s The Punisher is a killing machine bent on revenge. He watched as his family became collateral damage in a mob war and vowed to wipe out organised crime. He didn’t have a badge, but was a battle trained ex-Marine with a full arsenal of killing skills.
The Punisher, created by writer Gerry Conway and artist John Romita, Sr. for Marvel Comics, first tortured readers in The Amazing Spider-Man. He was initially brought to life on the big screen by Dolph Lundgren in 1989 and was played by Thomas Jane in the 2004 film The Punisher. At one point in his career, Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter was working with Marvel on developing a sequel to Thomas Jane's 2004 Punisher film. I actually really liked that movie and thought Jane made a great Frank Castle. It would have been cool to see a sequel to that movie, but obviously, it was never meant to be.
During an interview with Looper, Sutter talked about his experience working on the script that he was brought in to rewrite. This was the first time he was ever hired to rewrite a script, and he got overly ambitious on the project. He explained what he was trying to do with the character saying:
"So I turn in this draft, and I'm, like, 'Aw, yeah, I'm shakin' up Marvel, man!' And literally, there were people—including Gale Ann Hurd—who were, like, 'Uh…' They didn't know what the f— happened!

Three decades before strong, competent and powerful female action heroes like Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, Black Widow in The Avengers and Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally became fixtures in film, there was Sigourney Weaver as Ripley in Aliens. The actress debuted Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley in director Ridley Scott's moody 1979 sci-fi/horror masterwork Alien, deftly eluding a monstrous, murderous and nearly indestructible extraterrestrial life form. But it wasn't until that film's long-gestating sequel Aliens arrived in 1986, written and directed by future action auteur James Cameron, that Ripley truly emerged as an ass-kicking action heroine...

"There are rules," Negan informs us ominously in the latest trailer for The Walking Dead season seven. "You earn what you take. You should know this is the only way," he threatens in the clip, which gives us the first look at what life will be like under his rule. We know that a tragically gory death awaits at least one of the Twd characters we've grown to love, and now, in this preview, we can see how things will go after the anticipated moment. "Whatever you had going for you, that's over. The thing is, I am everywhere," he says. Twd executive producer Gale Ann Hurd recently told E! News that she thinks Negan is the ultimate villain. We often hear about stupid things that happen in behind-the-scenes pitches to networks, but this one is about the best I've heard yet! Bloody Disgusting says that before Robert Kirkman signed a deal with AMC, he first pitched The Walking Dead to NBC executives. They liked the concept, but wondered if the show really needed zombies...oh, and he needed to add two crime fighting detectives, according to producer Gale Ann Hurd.
I'm guessing eventually the title of the show would have been changed to Law & Order: Szu or something. Clearly, the network executives weren't familiar with the source material, nor did they want to be! Lucky for us, AMC picked it up and began its reign of good cable television. Thank goodness for that — could you imagine how quick a show like that would be cancelled? Then again, iZombie does pretty well...

In the past, James Cameron has been fairly blunt about his lack of appreciation for the third and fourth films in the "Alien" franchise which followed in the wake of his 1986 masterpiece "Aliens".
Part of his distaste is that the ending of his film was left feeling wasted when "Alien 3" opened and all the hard-fought survivors of the previous film, bar Sigourney Weaver's Ripley, had died. Cameron, who was at Comic-Con over the weekend to celebrate Aliens' 30th anniversary, spoke with io9 about why he didn't like "Alien 3":
"I thought [the decision to eliminate Newt, Hicks, and Bishop] was dumb. I thought it was a huge slap in the face to the fans. [Alien 3 director] David Fincher is a friend of mine, and he's an amazing filmmaker, unquestionably. That was kind of his first big gig, and he was getting vectored around by the studio, and he dropped into the production late, and they had a horrible script,...

It's here! The premiere date for the biggest zombie affair of all! The Walking Dead Season 7 will premiere on October 23rd.
The episode, which should reveal the fate of the character being killed off by Negan, will be directed by Greg Nicotero.
Scott M. Gimple, Robert Kirkman, Gale Ann Hurd, Dave Alpert and Greg Nicotero were all on stage for the panel today.
They were there to reveal a trailer showing some characters who will not be killed by Negan.
In the meantime, they shared some information with the excited, crowded room as the fans waiting in anticipation for the trailer and the rest of the panel participants.
Hurd revealed that their world will really be expanding in the seventh season, including new characters, some even of the non-human variety!
Apparently Kirkman threw the gauntlet when the show took off, writing things into the comics he thought could never appear on the television show.

Who died at Negan’s famed barbed-wire baseball bat “Lucille”? “The Walking Dead” fans will finally find out on Oct. 23.
AMC announced the show’s Season 7 premiere date Friday at San Diego Comic-Con. “The Walking Dead” returns at 9 p.m. Et that night, followed by “Talking Dead” (10 p.m.) and “Comic Book Men” (Midnight).
Like past years, AMC will split the season into two parts: Eight episodes will air this fall, and eight episodes will air in February 2017.
The producers, of course, wouldn’t even hint at who Negan may have offed. But they promised fans will be riveted.
“It’s absolutely worth the wait,” executive producer Robert Kirkman said. “It’s a fantastic premiere to a fantastic season.”
Gimple revealed that another “Walking Dead” graphic novel setting, the Kingdom, will be seen this season. Khary Payton has been cast as Ezekiel, their leader.

In 1971, the 300-or-so people pawing through cardboard boxes of dusty comic books couldn't have possibly imagined that they were standing in what would become the cradle of nerd civilization. How long it will be until (or even if) we see Neill Blomkamp's proposed direct "Aliens" sequel is anyone's guess at the moment, but it is becoming clearer that the film won't even try to incorporate "Alien 3" or "Alien: Resurrection".
As part of celebrating the 30th anniversary of James Cameron's "Aliens," EW has done a new story on the film and included some interview quotes from those involved. San Diego Comic Con is throwing quite the party for Aliens' 30th anniversary. This year's edition of the pop culture extravaganza will convene an impressive reunion panel that's set to include director James Cameron, star Sigourney Weaver, producer Gale Ann Hurd and cast members Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reiser, Michael Biehn, and Carrie Henn, according to EW. While Weaver and a number of her co-stars reunited last month at Texas' Comicpalooza, it's the first Q&A for the film's 30th birthday that Cameron is scheduled to take part in. “You know, it’s interesting. I don’t normally pursue these kind of nostalgia moments like we’re going to do down at Comic-Con, and I didn’t do it much at all for Terminator on its 30th, but there’s something about Aliens,” Cameron told EW. “It was a milestone for myself and Gale because the film got seven Academy Award nominations.

In case you weren’t aware, Terminator: Genisys was intended to launch a brand new trilogy that Paramount had spread across the calendar right up until 2019. It didn’t fare particularly well at the domestic box office and critics weren’t enthusiastic about it either. Still, it managed to scoop up a decent haul internationally, hence Arnold Schwarzenegger’s recent comments about a sequel. Yes, even though the second and third movies in this proposed trilogy were removed from Paramount’s calendar, the unstoppable T-800 seems to think Terminator 6 is still happening.
While most people would agree that the kindest thing anyone could do for the franchise at this stage is put it to pasture – there is another option. Let the man who created the series have another bash at it.
Seeing as the rights to the franchise revert back to James Cameron in 2019, it’s not entirely out of the question.

Android sci-fi flick The Machine is becoming a TV show at Universal, as are two more comics - El Pantera and Kill Shakespeare...
Universal Cable Productions' push into geeky genres was already massive (see: their alliance with Dark Horse Comics, for a start), and now it’s got even bigger. Reports yesterday from Comic-Con enlightened us about three new geek-friendly properties on Universal’s TV slate.
First up – The Machine. The low-budget British sci-fi film from writer-director Caradog James, which starred Caity Lotz, will be adapted into a television series for Syfy. As The Hollywood Reporter puts it, The Machine ‘follows a brilliant computer programmer, desperate to save his terminally ill daughter, who creates the first-ever piece of self-aware artificial intelligence. But things go terribly wrong with the technology.’
(If you haven't seen The Machine yet, it's extremely good and well worth tracking down.)

If you fear that "Fear the Walking Dead," AMC's spinoff of zombie drama "Walking Dead," will just be a clone of the original -- then you're in for a surprise.
At least, that's what the producers want you to believe in this new teaser video. Robert Kirkman, Gale Ann Hurd, and showrunner Dave Erickson are really, really trying to convince fans that "Fear the Walking Dead" isn't a rehash.
"The audience coming to the show, because there are so many diehard fans, you expect a certain thing from 'The Walking Dead,'" Erickson says. "We want to give that sense, and then pull the rug out from under them."
At the least, we'll see more of the initial zombie outbreak -- in "The Walking Dead," Rick Grimes was in a coma for most of it. The clip doesn't show much footage, but there are glimpses of the school where...

The Walking Dead shows no signs of rot as it signs off its 5th season with a phenomenally well written, well-directed movie-length finale...
This review contains spoilers.
5.16 Conquer
There's something to be said for The Walking Dead's expanded season finale episode from a sheer television standpoint. A 90 minute finale just feels like something special for a show that is already something special as far as television goes. There's room in the episode. While the set pieces aren't as impressive as Carol's assault on Terminus in No Sanctuary, there's more space to actually build up anticipation, and the multiple close calls all worked this week because it felt like, at any point, someone was going to die. On a show like The Walking Dead, Joe Bob Briggs' drive-in rules apply (anybody can die at any moment), but that goes doubly in a season finale.

Though I’m sure it’s very likely to happen, AMC have yet to give the go ahead to their Walking Dead spin-off series.
According to producer Gale Ann Hurd, speaking to Loyola Marymount University and quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, the pilot episode is now complete. Now they have to wait for AMC to give them an order before they can move ahead and write, crew-up, cast and shoot more episodes.
At least for now the show is called Fear the Walking Dead and it’s a kind of prequel, taking place in the time that Rick Grimes was unconscious in hospital. It’s about the rise of the walkers, and how American – or to be properly specific, La county – citizens react to the oncoming zombie plague.
There’s apparently some clever jiggery pokery going on where we’ll see one of the characters of Fear the Walking...

Before season five of The Walking Dead hits our screens, AMC has already announced season six…
This one from our ‘no-brainer’ department (which has nothing to do with Kevin Bacon’s awful Ee adverts): The Walking Dead will be returning for a sixth season.
The news comes soon before the fifth season of the AMC zombie drama debuts this Sunday in the States.
The show is one of the most popular things on telly, with over 15 million viewers tuning in for the season four finale, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. It’s still great news for fans of the show, though.
Showrunner Scott Gimple is set to return, alongside regular executive producers Robert Kirkman (who created the series in comic format), Gale Ann Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse.
Kirkman is also working on a pilot episode for a companion series with entirely new characters,...

We're reporting live on the floor from AMC's "The Walking Dead" panel and we've got some goodies to pass along, from the direction of the upcoming season to the impending Blu-ray release of season 4.
Chris Hardwick introduced showrunner Scott Gimple, along with Robert Kirkman, Gale Ann Hurd, Greg Nicotero, Andrew Lincoln, Steven Yuen, Michael Cudlitz, Danai Gurira, Lauren Cohan, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Chad Coleman, and Emily Kinney to a roomful of rabid fans.
When asked if our heroes would ever leave the train car, the panel showed a mock sitcom-style clip of Rick, Glen, and Maggie sitting inside the train car in old age makeup, playing card games and eating the leftovers of Carl. The scene ended in with Rick saying, "I can't keep eating my kid," followed by a bald-headed Daryl pulling a Colonel Kurtz and screaming, "The horror! The horror!"

How different would the movie industry be today if “The Terminator,” as we know it, didn’t hit theaters three decades ago? Where would Arnold Schwarzenegger’s career have ended up? As the oral history over at EW shows, things could turned out very wrong for James Cameron and his iconic sci-fi film. Of all the new information in the oral history, the craziest and shocking detail is that the casting for the film had some interesting possibilities, namely that Orion president Mike Medavoy told Cameron and co-writer/producer Gale Ann Hurd that he wanted, “O.J. Simpson for the Terminator and Arnold Schwarzenegger for the good guy, whatever his name is.” Yes, that O.J. Simpson. Why? As the former studio chief said, “At the time, O.J. Simpson had one of those commercials for Hertz where he jumped over a counter and ran to get a rental car. It was all of that stuff,...

Actresses Kerry Washington, Geena Davis, and Amy Madigan are challenging incumbent Annette Bening to be a governor for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Each branch of the film academy has three governors on staggered terms, so one of them is up for election every year. It is Bening's turn to either be re-elected or replaced by this Friday's deadline. Results will be announced next week. The other two acting branch governors are Ed Begley, Jr. and Tom Hanks. Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the current Academy president overseeing the Oscars, is on the ballot again for the public relations branch. If she does not get re-elected, she will only be a one-term president. Producers branch governor Gale Ann Hurd is being challenged by Albert Berger, Jennifer Fox, Jennifer Todd, and Gail Mutrux. Today on Trailers from Hell, "Chronicle" screenwriter Max Landis discusses James Cameron's 1984 sci-fi classic "The Terminator," starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton. James Cameron's triumphant updating of the well-made, low-budget sci-fi thrillers that flourished in the fifties was a box office smash in 1984. Cameron's whip-smart direction hits all the satirical twists and turns of the innovative script he wrote with Gale Ann Hurd and attention must be paid to Tfh guru Mark Goldblatt's turn-on-a-dime editing. Two bigger budget sequel hits followed ("Terminator 2: Judgement Day" and "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines") with a fourth, "Terminator: Genesis," recently announced.

- Kevin Smith's TV empire continues to grow with the news that AMC has ordered two more pilots from the filmmaker. In addition to Season 4 of "Comic Book Men," the network is developing "Hollywood Babble-On," a weekly entertainment news show based on a podcast the filmmaker does with radio personality Ralph Garman. Additionally, frequent "Comic Book Men" guest Robert Bruce is getting a shot at his own spinoff. This may not come as a surprise to you, but AMC has officially renewed The Walking Dead for a fifth season, and I couldn't be happier! This current season has been really intense, and it's safe to say that it's not going to end very well. Now that I think about it, it never ends well does it? Damn, this is a depressing series, but it's so good!

What’s your favourite action movie? Die Hard? Predator? The Hunt for Red October? John McTiernan, their director, is unarguably a true master of Western action cinema, and this writer is a huge fan of his work. Sure, there’s been a few missteps, your Last Action Heroes and your Rollerballs, but he’s an incredibly talented filmmaker beloved the world over.
And like many people, you may be wondering what happened to John? Why hasn’t he made a movie in so long?
Well, it’s because he’s been imprisoned for the last six months after a lengthy legal battle which prevented him from working- it’s a labyrinthine set of events to explain, and was perhaps best done so by Buzzfeed’s Michael Hastings. Meet Flame, Michonne's new mode of transport in The Walking Dead's fourth season...
The latest Samurai accessory for The Walking Dead's Michonne is of the four-legged, tail-swishing variety. Danai Gurira's Katana-wielding warrior has added a horse to her zombie-slicing accoutrement for season four.
Producer Gale Ann Hurd explained the decision to introduce Michonne's pal Flame to the next season of The Walking Dead as one of practicality above all, "With gas at a premium, with the fact that vehicles break down, I think we would return to the days of horseback riding, and you can graze them as you go in a place like Georgia [...] It goes with the new approach this season of sustainability." Practicality isn't the only consideration though, as Herd concludes, "Not only that, but Michonne looks so badass on it."
