On June 10th a few famous girls rocked New York to raise money and awareness for AfricAid.
The event was a benefit concert for She’s the First, a media campaign that promotes education for girls. Their belief is “with an education, girls can break barriers, and every girl deserves her chance to be a First.”
Seven recording artists – Kat DeLuna, Lenka, Shontelle, MoZella, Kelli Pyle, Vita Chambers and Cara Salimando — along with DJ Kalkattua and host Chris Bashinelli, Executive Director of the “Bridge the Gap” web documentary series, entertained a crowd of 400 at Santos Party House in downtown Manhattan. In addition to the music, the program featured a special video shout out from Platinum-recording artist Gavin DeGraw, livestreaming, live tweets, a special birthday presentation to Vita Chambers, and a fundraising raffle. The concert was an Internet Week NY event and they do plan on rocking out again in 2011!
