Ray Halbritter, the Oneida Indian Nation Representative, CEO of Oneida Nation Enterprises, and a trustee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Museum, has launched Standing Arrow Productions, a privately-funded, independent film and TV production company aimed at increasing the representation and championing the narratives of Native American and Indigenous peoples on screen. Halbritter has already optioned the first book that he will adapt: “The Real All Americans: The Team That Changed a Game, A People, A Nation” by award-winning sports journalist and Washington Post columnist Sally Jenkins.
“Representation on the movie screen and throughout popular culture is tremendously important for marginalized communities, and especially important for young people, to see images of themselves on screen,” Halbritter told Variety. “That’s the biggest single factor in my decision to launch Standing Arrow Productions. Growing up, I never saw anyone on screen who looked like me or reflected my life experience.

Two New Jersey Catholic school students were expelled after their family sued the school for not allowing their 13-year-old daughter play on the boys’ basketball team.
Scott Phillips found out in October that his daughters’ school, St. Teresa’s in Kenilworth, New Jersey, was shutting down the girls’ basketball team.
“When we heard that there was no varsity team, which covers 7th and 8th grade, my wife simply said, ‘Let’s just let her play with the 7th and 8th grade boys. Let’s move her over,’ ” Phillips tells People.
But when he approached the school’s athletic director, the idea was met with resistance.

Dylan released his first album in 1962, and his music had a considerable influence on the civil rights movement. Below, President Barack Obama awards Dylan the prestigious medal.
The president said he found Dylan's music transcendant, claiming it led to his "world opening up, because [Dylan] captured something about this country that was so vital."
Dylan was one of 13 to receive the Medal of Freedom on Tuesday, including former astronaut and Senator John Glenn, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former University of Tennessee women's basketball head coach Pat Summitt.

Pat Summitt, the legendary coach of Tennessee's Lady Vols women's basketball team, is stepping down after 38 years on the job, eight Ncaa titles and more winning college basketball games than any other coach -- man or woman -- in the history of the sport: 1,098.
In 2011, Summitt disclosed her diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer's disease. She won't be fully retiring -- definitive word will come in a Wednesday (April 18) press release -- but taking on the role of "head coach emeritus." This will allow her to mentor players, but preclude her from actively coaching, according to The Washington Post.

The first time I saw Pat Summitt in person was when the Lady Vols came to Ft. Worth to play the Tcu women. The place was packed, as all Tennessee Wbb games are. Being short and sort of unassuming, I was able to sneak down to a spot right behind the Ut bench. And I couldn't take my eyes off of her. She was intense, focused and animated. And she didn't miss a thing. My hero worship kicked into high gear — and I became almost as passionate about Pat Summitt as she is about basketball.
A few months ago, when Pat announced her Alzheimer's-related dementia diagnosis, the outpouring of support was phenomenal. We heard from former players, staff, rivals, and more. In 1971, when Pat Summitt was still a college student and Geno Auriemma was in high school, 23-year-old Cathy Rush stepped into the coaching position for the Immaculata College women's basketball team.
The "Mighty Macs" didn't have a home court because theirs had burned down. The team, which struggled to recruit and keep enough players to compete, had to practice at local gyms and play all its games on the road. The college administration at the Catholic school for women was less than supportive, especially when Rush wanted to put her girls through a tough practice regimen. The school itself was in dire straits financially. By all appearances, the Macs didn't have a prayer.
But Rush persevered and, in 1972, the team went to the first ever women's college basketball national championship. The school had a 15th seed (out of 16) and got to the tournament by selling toothbrushes to raise money. As you've probably guessed,...

Two months after his announcement to People that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, country legend Glen Campbell has given his first TV interview - coming across as forgetful and strongly dependent upon his wife to fill in many of the answers. "What was I saying?" Campbell, in the course of his conversation with ABC's Terry Moran for Tuesday's World News with Diane Sawyer, asked in the middle of answering a question about his career. "I'm going to be right in the middle of a sentence, man - and it just goes, pew," he said. With his wife of nearly 30 years,...

Pat Summitt, who is currently entering her 39th season as the women's basketball coach at the University of Tennesse, has more wins under her belt than anyone else in college basketball history. On Tuesday, she announced that she has been diagnosed with early onset dementia, Alzheimer's type.
Summitt has won 1,071 games and eight national championships. She wrote an open letter to the University of Tennessee community disclosing her condition. Perhaps most surprising is that she has no intention of stepping down from her position.
"I plan to continue to be your coach," she says. "Obviously, I realize I may have some limitations with this condition since there will be some good days and some bad days. For that reason, I will be relying on my outstanding coaching staff like never before."
She told the Washington post that she was alerted to a problem last season when she drew a blank during a game.

Willow Creek, one of the nation's largest and most powerful megachurches, leads evangelicals by learning from the business world's best.
Jack Welch called the other day. He wanted to talk about his friend Bill. Forget the notion that the ex-ge chief is a curmudgeon -- the guy just gushed. Bill "is a man with enormous capability, a man who can rally a team around a vision." Bill runs a fast-growing organization based just outside Chicago that today has affiliates on every continent except Antarctica.
