First cast by Shane Meadows, in This is England, Socha is about to star in the director’s period drama The Gallows Pole. He describes how acting saved him from a life of violence – and why he loves a madcap scheme
In a photographer’s studio in Derby, Michael Socha is wondering what he should wear. He’s got a good jumper on, but he doesn’t like his jeans. He’s brought a couple of shirts from his mum’s, but they need a bit of an iron. No stylist for Socha; he has the busy air of a man who’s popped in between shifts, which he has, sort of. He lives close by, and is always on the go, “here, there and everywhere”. Aside from acting, and family, he practises muay thai and kickboxing. He’s doing his belts. “I’m on brown two for kickboxing at the moment,...

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel casting agents couldn’t have found better actors to play adult Esther and Ethan Maisel on Season 5.
Alexandra Socha embodied the neurotic, genius of Esther as a young woman, and even sounds like her mother Midge when she rants to her psychologist about not being able to talk to her mother. But then Ethan, played by Ben Rosenfield, is more of a gentler, passive soul living in Israel on a Kibbutz.
Both actors brought young adult Esther and Ethan Maisel to life on season 5, so who are these young actors?
Alexandra Socha dishes about young adult Esther’s Ramones t-shirt on season 5 of ‘Maisel’
Socha announced her appearance in season 5 in a very Maisel way. “You might see a familiar face (and an awesome mess of hair) in the opening scene of the season. What a joy to get to be on one of my favorite shows!

She's back for one last kick at the can!
On The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 Episode 1, we get a series of heartfelt goodbyes and a glimpse at the future. It's a bittersweet beginning to the end of one of television's most delightful comedies.
Warning: This review contains spoilers for Episodes 1 - 3 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5.
The first episode is aptly titled because we "go forward" in time to 1981. Alexandra Socha is uncanny as the grown-up version of Midge's daughter, Esther.
She was so convincing that initially, I wondered if they had done visual effects or computer trickery on Rachel Brosnahan. Did Socha win a Midge Maisel impersonation contest? She's a marvel!
Poor Esther is neurotic and brilliant, which makes complete sense. We don't get to spend too much time with her here, but just enough to get an idea of how much Midge has affected her daughter.
