Plot: An alcoholic and drug addict, Richard is taken into the wilderness to detox – but once they’re out in the woods, he and his group of friends are attacked by a madman.
Review: Hutch Dano is the grandson of legendary character actor Royal Dano and the son of actor Rick Dano, so it’s no surprise that he got into acting himself. Nine years ago, Cortney Palm and Hutch Dano starred in Zombeavers, a horror comedy that got a good amount of attention because – as the title gives away – it happened to be about zombie beavers. Now Palm and Dano have reunited for the horror film As Certain as Death, which will be receiving a VOD release in the United States on July 11th. The trailer for the film can be seen in the embed above.
The feature directorial debut of Dano, who also wrote the script, As Certain as Death has the following synopsis: Desperate to help her addict boyfriend Richard, Kayla enlists the help of her sister and friends to stage an intervention, but the first step is finding Richard. Kayla documents their search for Richard among the allies and homeless encampments of Los Angeles, finally succeeding in finding him high in an alley. With the additional help of two friends,...

It’s time for a new episode of the Wtf Really Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, and in this one we’re looking at the true events that inspired Silent Night (watch it Here), the 2012 remake of the 1984 slasher classic Silent Night, Deadly Night. You might have thought that Silent Night wasn’t inspired by anything other than the film it’s a remake of, but that’s definitely not the case. And you can find out all about the real life tragedy that led to the story of the remake by checking out the video embedded above.
Wtf Really Happened to This Horror Movie? is sort of a spin-off from our show Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie. "We have to consider that they're all lying to us." Gravitas Ventures has debuted an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Disappearance, the feature debut of filmmaker Matt Shapira. This is another one of these seductive sailboat mysteries where something goes wrong and someone dies (or disappears) from a boat and they have to figure out what really happened. Who really killed him? After the author George Boulangé disappears from his sailboat one night, Detective Kenny Park must try to figure out what happened by interviewing his wife, girlfriend, and the captain. Starring Matt Marsden, Hutch Dano, Cortney Palm, Jemma Dallender, Reggie Lee, Brian Thompson, & Guy Wilson. This looks bland and forgettable, and very cheesy (that awful music in the trailer my goodness). This one you can skip. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Matt Shapira's Disappearance, direct from YouTube: When author George Boulangé agrees to the wishes of his wife,...

However when her sister Kate comes to her and begs her to help repay a massive debt, Becca must re-enter the world of illegal underground fighting and resume her fight career as “Bex the Beast”. With the eagerly-anticipated horror Death House being released in cinemas on 2nd March 2018, I got a chance to speak with stunt coordinator Jae Greene about what we can expect from the film, what it was like working on the set and his favourite moments during filming.
How did you first get into the film industry as stunt performer?
Me and some friends started out training and making short fight videos ourselves. We were picking up some experience as background on a Bollywood movie and I hustled my way onto the stunt team to play Swat one day. After that the stunt coordinator, who was from NYC, hired me and a few more Philly [Philadelphia] guys on a couple more Bollywood movies he had here.
My first really big budget Hollywood experience was shortly after that, I got hired as a Special Ability Extra on The Last Airbender (2010). It was a lot...

With the highly-anticipated horror Death House being released in cinemas on March 2nd, I got a chance to ask lead actor Cody Longo about Preparing for the role with Cortney Palm and Harrison Smith, what was it like working on such a landmark film and what makes Death House stand out in the horror genre.
What can we expect from Death House?
One for the movie fan. For the people who like to go out and have a good time. Take a rollercoaster ride and see some blood along the way. It’s an intelligent, retro feeling film with a new age plot. Go out and enjoy it, and pay attention to the details!
How did you become involved in the film Death House?
It came across my desk and I loved the idea, script and Harrison’s vision, I trusted.
Can you tell me a little bit about your character?...

With the anticipated horror Death House being released in cinemas on February 23rd 2018, I got a chance to speak with actress Cortney Palm about what we can expect from the film, her character Agent Toria Boon and filming inside the haunted Holmesburg Prison.
What can we expect from Death House?
Death House is one hell of a ride. From start to finish the audience will be wondering what is going on and how the protagonists are going to survive. It’s more than just a bloody horror/thriller, there is depth to the Death House and characters beyond what you think you’re getting from just viewing the trailer. Think about what the CIA did in our history in regard to LSD experiments, and the meaning of Dante’s Inferno, that’s what you’re getting with Death House.

Ever since Ronda Rousey stepped into the Octogan and took the world by storm, Female Mma has gone to a whole new level. Everyone from Ufc to Hollywood is trying to cash in on this new wave of female athletes. Female Fight Squad is the latest attempt from Hollywood to capitalize on the swelling popularity of Women's Mma. Starring martial artist, and stunt performer, Amy Johnston as the main lead, Rebecca, in a prototypical fight movie. A retired fighter must get back into the ring to save a loved one from a debt they owe. As any good throwback fighting movie it is only natural to cast an actor from the 80's or 90's. Dolph Lundgren is that actor who stars in this movie, and doesn't overshadow the story at all.

Cortney Palm is gaining notoriety for her role in the surprise hit zom com Zombeavers. It’s about beavers mutated into bloodthirsty zombies by a drum of toxic waste that falls into the river.
They indulge their undead, bucktoothed, bloodlust on an unsuspecting group of young people in a nearby vacation cabin. Yes, you read that right. It sounds too good to be true, but it is. It’s so hard to tell nowadays what kind of film you are going to get by just looking at the solitary picture and the synopsis. I seldom ever rely on the number of stars that it has, because someone else’s trash just might be my treasure. Back in the video store days, there were absolutely no guarantees even by looking at the videocassette box, but I guess that I just had a false sense of security that I could make a more informed choice. I’m slowly letting go, and just going with straight up intuition.

Zombeavers (2014) Director: Jordan Rubin Stars: Rachel Melvin, Cortney Palm, John Mayer A canister of bio-hazardous waste falls in to a beaver lodge, resulting in angry, unkillable, oversized rodents. Coincidentally, this happens around the same time a group of horny teenagers arrive at a nearby cabin. Huh... It would be easy to screw up a movie called Zombeavers. Experience dictates the most likely course of action would be to turn it in to another SyFy Channel...

Editor’s note: Our review of Zombeavers originally ran during last year’s Fantasia Film Festival, but we’re re-posting it as the film has finally opened on VOD and in limited theatrical release. Let’s just get this out of the way right up front. Yes, Zombeavers is about zombie-beavers. No, they don’t look even the slightest bit realistic. Yes, you’re still going to love this movie anyway. Three sorority sisters head to a remote cabin by a lake for a girls weekend away from the boys. The trip was motivated by the recent revelation that Jenn’s (Lexi Atkins) boyfriend cheated on her with an unknown skank leading Mary (Rachel Melvin) to organize the weekend to help her friend heal. Zoe (Cortney Palm) is just along for the ride and the possibility of a full-body tan. Their plans are interrupted by two types of mammals. First, their...

To prematurely write off Zombeavers would be an easy task based on the numerous trailers featuring zombified beaver puppets who growl angrily at the camera, as the footage suggests a watch that takes B-Movie stupidity to realms yet unexplored. Who needs a bunch of undead beavers thwapping their tails against the ground while they’re trying to gnaw through a group of drunken fratheads and their sorority babes? Pointless nudity, radiated beaver dams, filthy double entendres, goofy creature work – do horror fans really need to be subjected to such an untamed zombie/animal hybrid?!
Yeah – you’re f#cking right they do!
The same could have been said for movies like Gremlins, Child’s Play, or any other heavily puppeteered genre exploration that requires heavy special effects techniques and loads of imagination. Sure, we already know how those two famous examples turned out. Gremlins is a classic monster mash for...

It’s difficult enough to survive an onslaught of living dead humans, but perhaps even trickier is going up against a batch of furtive beavers after they’ve been exposed to toxic waste that turns them into flesh eating animals. In Jordan Rubin’s horror-comedy Zombeavers, three women and their friends strive to survive these carnivorous creatures, and we now know when Us audiences can see these living dead lake dwellers.
Variety recently reported that Zombeavers was acquired by Freestyle Releasing and Freestyle Digital Media at the American Film Market. Zombeavers will be unleashed in theaters and VOD on March 20th.

Just about everything you need to know about Zombeavers is right there in the title. Zombie beavers (should) sound ridiculous, and so it’s a ridiculous movie that follows, strangely capturing your attention for some 70-odd minutes of bloody shenanigans.
The story is lifted from a horror template: a group of co-eds are joined by their obnoxious beaus at a cabin retreat where toxic waste has infected some local rodents, and thus mayhem ensues. That’s it. So it is with equal parts earnestness and absurdity that Zombeavers declares itself a feature film, dedicating itself to actual characters and a simple plot while trying to maintain a straight face with antagonists in the form of killer beavers.
It starts hilariously enough, as a pair of truckers exchange snappy, vulgar dialogue while not at all paying attention to the road. Rather, the driver isn’t giving heed, and when an accident occurs,...

For at least the past few years, we have covered the Toronto After Dark Film Festival annually. Jeff Konopka attends the festival every year, and he usually brings some really good coverage back with him. I am always jealous when he’s there, because I’m listening to the footage that he has recorded, hanging out in a crowded bar talking with filmmakers, as well as other journalists attending the event. It sounds like a lot of fund, and I’d love to make the trip one year. Some of my favorite recent films were shown at Toronto After Dark. Cheap Thrills, Motivational Growth, The Machine, We Are What We Are, Resolution, The Battery, one of my all-time favorite films, Some Guy Who Kills People, and much, much more. Recently, the first 10 films for the 2014 festival were announced, and among them were some highly anticipated films. I will list them all below,...

Getting stuck in an elevator is scary enough, but doing so with a bunch of senior citizens? You can be sure filmmaker Patrick Rea piles on the spooky - plus a little silly - in this teaser for his "It's Hell Getting Old" segment of the Hellevator Man anthology.
Kansas City-based Rea's short stars Kip Niven (Jayhawkers, New Year’s Evil), Joicie Appell (Nailbiter), Victor Raider-Wexler (Minority Report), and Nancy Marcy. It was executive produced by Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, Michael Biehn, and Lony Ruhmann.
The script, written by Rea, deals with four elderly people trapped in an elevator on their way to their 50th Class Reunion, and one of them may have forgotten to take some important medication.
The film was shot in Kansas City, Missouri, and the director of photography was Hanuman Brown-Eagle.

Horror comedy Zombeavers (review) recently had its UK debut at Film4 FrightFest, but it hit Tribeca last spring for its world premiere, where we had a chance to chat with director and co-writer Jordan Rubin plus several members of the cast.
Stars Peter Gilroy, Rex Linn, Courtney Palm, Jake Weary, Rachel Melvin, and Lexi Atkins emerged from the Zombeavers onslaught to discuss acting in horror movies vs. watching them, the treasures to be found while peeing in the woods, and the ghostly presence of poor Old Yeller.
Additionally, Rubin (pictured above), a veteran of television comedy, joined in to talk about the technical considerations one must take into account when choosing between practical puppet zombeavers vs. CGI zombeavers.
Beware: A few spoilers for some classic movies that should be beyond spoiling by now are lurking in the below video, but there are no spoilers for Zombeavers itself.

Seriously. Do I have to lay out the plot of a film called Zombeavers? It features zombie beavers. What else do you need to know? Oh well, here goes: Three college friends decide to spend the weekend at a riverside cabin in the woods, man free, after one of the trio splits up with her boyfriend. However the boys see things differently and invite themselves on the trip in the hopes of having a debauched weekend filled with sex and booze. Little do the group know, they are right next door to a lodge of beavers who have been mutated, by an accidental toxic waste spill, into rabid zombeavers.
See, did I really need to explain that? Kids go woods. Kids get dead.

This is a movie about zombie beavers, and beaver zombies. What more, exactly, do you need to know? With Zombeavers, director Jordan Rubin and writers Al and Jon Kaplan have made an irreverent, low-budget spectacle in the tradition of horror comedies like Sharknado and Piranha 3D. The film features a mostly unknown cast, with a brief but funny cameo from a mustachioed John Mayer and leadwork from Cortney Palm, perhaps best known for her role in 2012's Sushi Girl.
Rubin and co use the the typical cabin in the woods model to set up their story - pragmatic Mary (Rachel Melvin), sex-crazed and potty mouthed Zoe (Palm), and a post-breakup depressed Jenn (Lexi Atkins) decide to go on a girls weekend in a country house by the lake.
