Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” is one of the band’s most famous classic rock songs. Selena Gomez’s “Bad Liar” reuses the bassline of the song. Subsequently, Talking Heads’ David Byrne revealed what he thought about Gomez’s track.
Why Talking Heads’ David Byrne was alright with Selena Gomez sampling ‘Psycho Killer’
During a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, Byrne was asked if he was upset with Gomez for decontextualizing “Psycho Killer.” “No, no, not at all,” he responded. “I mean, I would have an issue if somebody took, say, ‘This Must Be the Place,’ which is a very personal love song — if somebody repurposed that and made it into some kind of horrible violent thing, I would probably say, ‘No, you do not have permission to do this.’
“Other than that, yeah, repurpose the stuff,” he added. “That’s totally fine. And, you know, we get paid for it too.

“Everything I drop is a banger,” Kim Petras declares on “Uhoh,” a filter house-influenced track from her long-awaited debut studio album, Feed the Beast. And, for the most part, she delivers on that promise. From the verse to the pre-chorus to the instrumental drop and chopped-up vocal bridge, the song—which was produced by Ian Kirkpatrick, the knob-twirler behind Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now”—is stacked with hooks.
Much of the rest of Feed the Beast follows suit, including the Dr. Luke-helmed “Revelations,” which channels ’80s post-disco, complete with squelchy electric guitar solo, and the breezy “Coconuts,” a cheeky, pun-filled ode to Petras’s “margari-tatas.” Elsewhere, lead single “Alone” is built around a sample of Alice Deejay’s infectious “Better Off Alone,” though it leans too heavily on that late-’90s club hit’s synth hook to make much of a distinct impression of its own.

Sure, Beyoncé led the nominations, with Taylor Swift not far behind, but movie fans might have noticed an interesting nomination. It was Billie Eilish getting nominated for her No Time to Die song, from the upcoming James Bond flick. Record Of The Year Award to the Artist and to the Producer(s), Recording Engineer(s) and/or Mixer(s) and mastering engineer(s), if other than the artist. The Grammy Award for Record of the Year goes to the artists, producers, engineers and mixers behind the year’s best recording. So who will win when awards are handed out in 2021? The eligibility period for the 63rd annual kudos is September 1, 2019 through August 31, 2020. Scroll down to see the top contenders.
The Grammy eligibility period used to be a little different. It previously ran from October 1 through September 30, but the recording academy shifted everything by a month as a result of the Oscars decision to hold their 2020 Oscars in early February, which had been the Grammys’ turf. So music’s biggest night moved to January and it tweaked its calendar. That means a lot of 2021’s major contenders had already been released by the time the 2020 awards were handed out.

Subscription music-streaming has ushered in new growth for recorded music. But you can’t keep up that growth without also making it easier in the first place for artists to create new songs — the very products that power this new economy — argues Splice, a tech start-up that wants to not just help artists create more music, but make its creation much easier.

Nicole Kidman got quite the compliment from her husband Keith Urban in his track “Gemini.”
The song, which comes from Urban’s most recent album Graffiti U, is, according to the country star himself, all about his wife. In it, he even drops a mention about what Kidman, 52, is apparently like in bed!
“She’s a maniac in the bed, but a brainiac in the head,” Urban, 51, sings of his famous wife of 13 years in the four-minute long track. Kidman recently joked she wasn’t exactly thrilled about her sex life becoming front and center in her husband’s music.

“The Launch,” Big Machine Records President/CEO Scott Borchetta’s singing competition on Canadian Television (CTV), is getting a second season, having landed an exclusive worldwide distribution deal with Sony Pictures Television (Spt). The show is set to begin filming in Toronto this coming Fall for the 2018-19 season.
After just one season on the air, the show has seen success from its graduates the likes of which most reality competition shows strive for: six of the series’ singles have seen major traction, including four No. 1 songs on iTunes Canada: Poesy’s “Soldier of Love,” Logan Staats’ “The Lucky Ones,” Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine’s “Ain’t Easy,” which was recently certified platinum, and The Static Shift’s “Wide Awake.”
