The last time the Disney Channel bet on a 13-year-old Southern starlet, it was Miley Cyrus. So now that Miley is all grown up (turning 18 in 2 weeks), I hear that The Powers That Be are putting the Southern starlet Bella Thorne on the same fast-track teen career path. Tennessee native Miley shared the sitcom spotlight with her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus. The brass are counting on Floridian Bella to be the breakout star of the new Disney Channel buddy comedy series Shake It Up which premieres tonight at 8:30 Pm in a no-lose slot after the one-hour Hannah Montana Forever special "I'll Always Remember You". Miley's character lived her dream singing while navigating school. In Shake It Up, Bella (who was cast when she was 13) is living her dream dancing while navigating school. Get used to seeing Bella Thorne. She's pretty much everywhere already and she's really just getting started. Thorne, a 12-year-old who hails from Florida, has a resume that would make many veteran actors jealous, and it's a credits sheet she's built on talent and charm, tenacity and good looks. So far, she's been Christian Slater's daughter on My Own Worst Enemy (TV), Billy Baldwin's child on Dirty Sexy Money (TV), and Cheryl Hines' kid on In the Motherhood (TV), and she's currently playing Teenie Henrikson, offspring of Bill Paxton's character, on Big Love (TV). She's also acted on television in Entourage (TV), October Road (TV), and Mental (TV), in the indie films Blind Ambition (2008) and Forget Me Not (2009), and has modeled for Mudd Jeans, Gap, and Ralph Lauren. On the way are several more independent features, and a major guest spot on an upcoming episode of...

Welcome to your Thursday morning television briefing. I had an amazing time last night at The Killers concert at the Hollywood Bowl but am a wee bit exhausted this morning as a result. That said, onto the headlines. Oscar winner Sissy Spacek will join the cast of HBO's drama series Big Love next season in a multiple-episode story arc where she will play a "powerful Washington D.C. lobbyist." Spacek's casting comes on the heels of announcements that Bella Thorne will replace Jolean Wejbe on the series next season and that Ben Koldyke will appear as Dale, a "state-appointed trustee and love interest for Alby (Matt Ross)." Big Love launches its fourth season early in 2010. (Los Angeles Times' Show Tracker) Saffron Burrows (My Own Worst Enemy) is said to be in talks to join the cast of USA's Law & Order: Criminal Intent, where it's thought likely that she would play...

Eleven-year-old Bella Thorne will play not the niece of Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and daughter of Cindy (Judith Hoag) as previously reported, but will instead take the role of Barb's daughter Tancy, to replace Jolean Wejbe, who played the role during Big Love's first three seasons.
Thorne has appeared on Entourage, The Oc, and in five episodes of the now canceled Dirty Sexy Money. She also played Christian Slater's daughter on the NBC series My Own Worst Enemy. Her Big Love character will reportedly have deep anger issues.
HBO has announced that Big Love's fourth season is set to kick off in January next year.

Bella Thorne has landed a major recurring role on the upcoming fourth season of HBO's "Big Love."
According to a breakdown released in July, the role Thorne was to play was Christie, Barb's (Jeanne Tripplehorn) niece and Cindy's (Judith Hoag) daughter who has deep anger issues.
But sources indicate that Thorne will in fact play Barb's daughter Tancy, replacing Jolean Wejbe, who played the role the first three seasons of the polygamist drama.
Thorne recently played Christian Slater's daughter on NBC's "My Own Worst Enemy" and recurred on ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money."
The actress, who has signed as the lead in the Chris Long-directed indie feature "Under the Influence," is repped by Innovative and Kritzer Levine Wilkins Griffin.
