When Hannah Gadsby entered a deal at Netflix in 2022 with the goal of broadening “a notoriously transphobic industry,” they set plans for a multi-comic special featuring genderqueer comics from around the globe. Now titled “Gender Agenda,” that project will debut on March 5 with a lineup of seven performers.
With Gadsby as curator and host, “Gender Agenda” will give the stage to Jes Tom, Alok, Asha Ward, Chloe Petts, DeAnne Smith, Krishna Istha and Mx. Dahlia Belle.
Tom has written for Max’s “Our Flag Means Death” and recently wrapped the off-Broadway run of “Less Lonely,” their one-person show presented by Elliot Page. Alok headlined the NYC Comedy Festival in 2021, and has appeared in unscripted series such as Hulu’s “Planet Sex” with Cara Delevigne and Netflix’s “Getting Curious” with Jonathan Van Ness. Ward is best known for being the youngest-ever writer for “Saturday Night Live.” Petts is currently touring...

The delayed Season 2 of Everything’s Gonna Be Okay finally bowed in April, marking the return of the Freeform comedy created and executive produced by and starring Australian comedian Josh Thomas.
Thanks to the production shutdown because of the pandemic, the series’ planned arc for its sophomore season had to change. The result is a more introspective story in Okay, which centers on Thomas’ Nicholas, a twentysomething entomologist from Australia raising his two teenage half-sisters Matilda (Kayla Cromer) and Genevieve (Maeve Press) after the death of their father. Matilda is autistic — and by the end of Episode 209, “Carolina Spinx Moth,” it’s becoming clear Nicholas might be too.

Kevin Whyte.
Kevin Whyte’s Token Group is weathering the pandemic thanks to its diversified businesses which encompass talent management, live touring, TV production and distribution.
“It will be a brutal two years but we will come through this; we have reserves to fall back on,” said Whyte, who founded the group nearly 30 years ago.
“I’m worried about where the young, entrepreneurial businesses will be coming out of this,” he told Screen Producers Australia CEO Matt Deaner in a webinar today. “They’re the ones that we will all have to look out for.”
During the pandemic the group’s Guesswork Television kept shooting The Weekly with Charlie Pickering for the ABC, which enabled the producers to experiment with new ideas.
Whyte tells If he is figuring out the logistics of when and how to film the next series of the ABC’s Hard Quiz in Melbourne later this year.

In another synergy move between new Disney basic cable corporate siblings Freeform and FX, the pilot episode of Freeform’s new dramedy series Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, will get an encore on FX on Jan. 22, six days after the show’s debut on its home network.
With its offbeat sensibility, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay is considered close in tone to some FX series, so Freeform brass are likely hoping to recruit new viewers by exposing the show to FX audiences.
Freeform and FX’s Fxx — both catering to young adults — already share reruns of the three big animated comedy series produced by sibling 20th Century Fox TV, The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers.
Everything’s Gonna Be Okay introduces Nicholas (Josh Thomas), a neurotic twenty-something-year-old visiting his dad and teenage half-sisters (Kayla Cromer and Maeve Press), one of whom is on the autism spectrum. When Nicholas’ trip is extended due...

Rick Kalowski.
ABC head of comedy Rick Kalowski has a ready answer when producers complain they can’t get a show funded because they have been unable to land an international financier or co-producer.
“If you can’t co-finance your scripted show internationally it’s not because it’s too local, it’s because it’s not good enough,” he tells If.
“There is so much hunger out there for scripted content that if you can’t finance it, it’s not a conspiracy. Many good Australian producers have had a lot of success selling their shows internationally.”
Most ABC scripted comedies are now co-financed internationally by streaming platforms or cable broadcasters such as Sky TV. “One of the few good things about the budget cuts in the past few years is that they have forced us to think internationally about our financing,” he says.

The ABC had greenlit the development of The Heights when Que Minh Luu, who co-created the drama serial with Warren Clarke, was alerted to a job vacancy at the public broadcaster.
Sally Riley, the ABC’s head of drama, comedy and Indigenous, suggested Luu apply for the role of an executive producer.
That presented a dilemma for the Matchbox Pictures development executive. “On one hand I was keen to see the show through to completion,” she tells If. “On the other hand I wanted to get into producing, jobs like that are rare and I may not have had the opportunity again.”
So she applied, got the position and continued to oversee the 30-episode production from Matchbox and Peta Astbury-Bulsara’s For Pete’s Sake Productions as an Ep.

The streaming market in Australia and New Zealand will soon become even more cluttered and competitive as AMC Networks announced its direct-to-consumer services Sundance Now and Shudder will launch in both countries later this year.
Specialising in genre entertainment covering thrillers, suspense and horror, Shudder will cost $4.99 a month or $49.99 per year. AMC did not disclose the fees for Sundance Now, which costs $US6.99 a month in the Us.
The expansion builds on both services’ growth in subscribers in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, Germany and Austria.
“Our continued expansion of Shudder and Sundance Now speaks to our success in offering audiences exclusive and original content they can’t get anywhere else along with an unparalleled user experience,” said Paul Rehrig, executive VP of business development for AMC Networks.
“We look forward to introducing both services into these new markets as consumer demand for our curated streaming offerings continues to grow.

Celia Pacquola and Luke McGregor.

Celia Pacquola says buying a whiteboard was the best decision she has ever made as she prepares to shoot Rosehaven — the ABC comedy series she wrote and created with Luke McGregor.
.It was only like a hundred bucks from Officeworks and it flips, it.s the greatest,. she tells If.
The whiteboard in question, despite making the comment in jest, was how Pacquola and fellow comedian McGregor mapped out their new eight-part comedy series, which starts filming on Monday in Geeveston, Tasmania
The series, which also stars McGregor (Utopia, It.s a Date, Luke Warm Sex) and Pacquola (The Beautiful Lie, Utopia, Laid) was cooked up while both were on tour for their various comedy shows.
.Luke McGregor and I knew each other from standup but became really close friends from filming Utopia seasons 1 and 2,. she says..
.There was a lot of in-between-filming. talking shit...
