Exclusive: Anonymous Content has put in development a limited series adaptation of Tom Cooper’s novel Florida Man, with Joel Edgerton set to star and executive produce. Quarry co-creator/exec producer Graham Gordy is attached to pen the adaptation and executive produce. Edgerton will executive produce via his Five Henrys production banner, as part of a first-look deal with Anonymous Content.
Florida Man, published by Penguin Random House in July, is a darkly comedic generation-spanning story about how a man decides to live his life, and how despite staying landlocked and stubbornly in one place, the world nevertheless comes to him.
It centers on Reed Crowe (Edgerton), the eponymous Florida Man. He is a middle-aged beach bum, beleaguered and disenfranchised, living on ill-gotten gains deep in the jungly heart of Florida. When sinkholes start opening on Emerald Island, not only are Reed Crowe’s seedy businesses–a moribund motel and a shabby amusement park–endangered,...

Three times lucky and fourth time the charm? Depending on who ask, The End of the Tour, the book to screen adaptation of David Lipsky’s “Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself” would be welcomed with both anticipation and trepidation (the Wallace clan haven’t warmed up to the idea). James Ponsoldt, a specialist in the human condition, has a road-tripper that fills out a certain quota: high profile sales items (at this point we have no idea if Sony might be selling or keeping) with attention-getting topliners in Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg. Ponsoldt’s entire feature filmography has screened in Park City, but this is perhaps the least likely candidate to premiere this January as the shooting budget on this road-tripper was perhaps larger than that of Off the Black (2006), Smashed (2012) and The Spectacular Now (2013) combined. Production began at the beginning of ’14 and Sony acquired all...

Many fans of the late "Infinite Jest" author David Foster Wallace were already wary of the upcoming biopic "The End of the Tour," starring Jason Segel as Wallace and Jesse Eisenberg as Rolling Stone writer David Lipsky. Add Wallace's family to the list of those not looking forward to the film. The late author's estate released a statement against the film, which is based on an unpublished 1996 Rolling Stone interview which Lipsky adapted into 2008 book "Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip With David Foster Wallace." “The David Foster Wallace Literary Trust, David’s family, and David’s longtime publisher Little, Brown, and Company wish to make it clear that they have no connection with, and neither endorse nor support, ‘The End of the Tour,'" says the statement. James Ponsoldt ("The Spectacular Now") is directing the film, which was written by Donald Margulies. James Dahl,...

The film follows author David Foster Wallace (Segel), author of famous best selling novel Infinite Jest, on the 1996 supporting book tour as Wallace is accompanied David Lipsky (Eisenberg), on assignment from Rolling Stone Magazine. Along the way, both a friendship and jealousy and competition emerge between the two writers as they discuss women, culture, depression and the pros and cons of fame. Though Wallace committed suicide in 2008, the movie captures both men at a time of great promise.
James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now) will direct from a script by playwright Donald Margulies, who adapted Lipsky’s book Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip With David Foster Wallace. Ponsoldt himself used to work at Rolling Stone while he was in college.
Anonymous Content’s Paul Green will executive produce the film, which is scheduled to start production shortly.

“Through Fortitude International, we have created a company that will provide important services and support not just for our personal slate of films, but to our present and future producing partners as well. I'm excited to partner with such talented and dedicated individuals on this new venture,” said Wagner.
“As financiers, Nadine brings us the international market knowledge that is so imperative to us when evaluating projects. Fortitude will be a haven for filmmakers and artists to make creatively and commercially successful films,” said Barnum.

Logan Marshall-Green stars in the pilot as a 1973 era Vietnam vet, freshly home for the war and quite disillusioned. So, what does he do? He joins a shadow organization to become a hitman.
Amuka-Bird will play Ruth, explained the latest Deadline casting update. Ruth is the wife of Artie, friend to Marshall-Green’s Quarry. Artie is a former Marine, by the by.
It’s all coming together. Quarry is based on the series of novels by Max Allan Collins, who also brought us the amazing Road To Perdition graphic novel. As previously reported, Stellan Skarsgård will play the key role of The Broker. Noah Taylor has...

Cinemax is busy beefing up its sniper pilot, Quarry. We’ve been bringing you all the latest casting news involved in this interesting 1970s set thriller. Today we can add a Thor actor to the mix. Stellan Skarsgård has signed the dotted line to co-star in the pilot.
Quarry could be a success. The network has already seen positive results with their original series Banshee and Strike Back. Quarry is based on the Max Allan Collins series of novels and follows a Marine sniper, who we previously revealed would be acted by Prometheus actor, Logan Marshall-Green. When our Marine returns home from Vietnam in 1973, he finds an America that would demonize him for doing nothing more than sacrificing just about everything to protect their freedoms.
As a result, Marshall-Green’s character, whose name is Quarry, becomes a contract killer. He is good a killing after all.

Cinemax just recruited a Marine sniper. Okay, so Prometheus actor Logan Marshall-Green isn’t really a soldier, but he’ll play one on TV. The network chose him to star in their new drama pilot titled Quarry.
The pilot is based upon a Max Allan Collins’ book, which follows a Marine sniper who returns home from Vietnam in 1973 to become disillusioned by the America he finds. It isn’t the one he left behind and it isn’t kind to him. “Combat-hardened and disillusioned, he’s recruited into a network of contract killers and corruption spanning the length of the Mississippi River,” reported THR. I told you it was a drama, and what a drama, but I see exciting thriller elements here as well.
If you are thinking that the title is weird, don’t. A quarry holds rocks and any member of the military can tell you there are...

With the successes of its original programs like Banshee and Strike Back, Cinemax is looking keep the streak going by greenlighting the pilot for a project based on the Max Allan Collins series of novels, Quarry. At first I thought this series must be about what it’s like to work in a quarry and would follow the lives of several laborers as they struggle with the dangers of their jobs and how it affects their already shaky personal lives, but upon more thorough research it would appear Quarry isn’t like that at all. I’m saddened, but I was suppose the project still sounds pretty cool…
Graham Gorgy and Michael D. Fuller are writing the Quarry pilot, reported Deadline. John Hillcoat is on board to direct with Anonymous Content co-producing. Hillcoat, Gorgy and Fuller will executive produce along with Anonymous’ Stever Golin, David Kanter, Matt DeRoss and Keith Redmon.

If a film is particularly good, or even great, superficially at least it seems nonsensical to wish to remake it in another language. Good writing, and good film making in general, is as worthwhile in one culture as the next with, admittedly, certain distinctions and exceptions for the most complex and specifically nebulous experimental cinema. However, why a successful film from Western Europe would require translation and re-shooting in English is harder to discern. Except of course in America where subtitles are indulgence of sneering elites and foreign languages are spoken only by terrorists and communists.
Now, even if this simply stereotypes a mere substantial minority of the “Great Satan,” there still remains an ingrained cultural resistance to film as anything other than “entertainment”- a shallow and escapist indulgence to deaden the mind to returning to whatever soulless employment about which they are so keen to boast- and to...
