Like huevos rancheros dumped into a Vitamix in The Chew‘s “Can You Blend It?” segment, the food-centric ABC talk show should never have been a success. And yet, like the tasty tortilla soup that results from that experiment, it somehow is.
The hour-long cook-and-chat-fest debuted in 2011. Its not-entirely-novel concept: a group of culinary minded co-hosts, including Food Network personalities Mario Batali and Michael Symon, Top Chef finalist Carla Hall and The Dorm Room Diet author Daphne Oz, gather to share recipes and gab with fellow co-host Clinton Kelly (What Not to Wear).

Five Points an American musical, with book by Harrison David Rivers, lyrics by Douglas Lyons and music by Douglas Lyons and Ethan Pakchar, has been in residence at the Musical Theatre Factory August 4th-10th. The third season of Top Shot is kicking off tomorrow, and I hope you're going to be tuning in. I have a rundown of the new contestants for you, and a special giveaway of a Top Shot branded iPhone case so you can show off your support of the show.
The contestants look like a good crop this season, even though this is a show that seems to have the opposite problem of most reality competition shows, at least from my perspective. As these series continue with further seasons, it seems to me that the contestants have continually increasing levels of competence, and that doesn't generally work for me. I don't really want to watch the cooking, design, or fashion show that is built around contestants who are already firmly entrenched in the field.
Top Shot doesn't really have any option though, even though there are contestants who are "amateurs,...
