- Hugo Rignold was born on May 15, 1905 in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, England, UK. Hugo is known for The Royal Ballet (1960), The Nutcracker (1958) and Giselle (1959). Hugo died on May 30, 1976 in Hampstead, London, England, UK.
- He was a car enthusiast and talented driver: it was said that "he would not be out of place on the Grand Prix circuit".
- He began studying the violin as a child with John Waterhouse in Winnipeg and played in the orchestra of the Winnipeg Theatre. After returning to England in 1921, he studied at the Royal Academy of Music and then worked as a blacksmith for a time.
- In 1960 he became permanent conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra when Andrzej Panufnik unexpectedly resigned. He remained at Birmingham until 1968.
- Rignold went on to lead his own London Casino Orchestra. He made many recordings with these musicians, a good number of which have been reissued on modern CDs.
