In "Eggplant," the Season 3 premiere of Pivot's absurd and absurdly winsome "Please Like Me" (Pivot), the Australian comedy's awkward protagonist, Josh (writer/creator Josh Thomas), and his anxious love interest, Arnold (Keegan Joyce), flirt and fight and fuck, constantly circling around what they really want to say. Rather than dash off a syrupy moment of truth, however, the episode culminates in a whip-smart allusion to "Love Actually" that bridges the gulf between words and meanings—and in the process confirms that the whimsical, romantic, seriously funny "Please Like Me" is (still) one of the best shows on television. In predictably unpredictable fashion, season 2 of Please Like Me wrapped with drunken skinny dipping, a disastrous balloon ride, and Josh (Josh Thomas) once again falling asleep with a mentally unstable loved one. As for his same-named hero's sleeping arrangements, Thomas laughed as he told EW, "I don't think that'll happen next year. I don't think we want to get into a situation where, at the end of each season, it's like, 'Who's Josh going to get into bed with?'" That said, Plm's creator and star isn't ruling out the possibility that "maybe next year it'll just be John. That's actually such a cute idea.

As Please Like Me heads into its second season finale, Josh (Josh Thomas) finds himself caught between two romantic prospects. A few weeks back, Josh fell into a courtship with his clinically anxious new friend Arnold (Keegan Joyce) literally hours after his roommate/nearly requited love Patrick (Charles Cottier) kicked him out of bed. But after a disastrous first date with Arnold, Patrick suddenly returns to complicate Josh's life once again. Though Thomas didn't address whether Patrick could make Josh forget how much he hurt him, he did he tell EW that "the big question is whether it's a good...

Looks like the new cool thing for directors to try after a big success is dipping their toes in TV. Ang Lee is following up his Life Of Pi Oscar triumph with a pilot for the Homeland team, and Sam Raimi is swapping the big fantasy visuals of Oz The Great And Powerful for Sony TV’s legal dramedy show Rake.Adapted from an Australian comedy drama series, Rake follows brilliant-but-batty criminal defence lawyer Keegan Joyce (Greg Kinnear), who is amazing at his job but terrible with people. He’s dedicated to justice and is surprisingly optimistic despite his rough outer shell. Yes, it sounds like it could be a little bit House-meets-Boston Legal..The show – assuming it gets picked up – was created by Peter Duncan (who crafted the original), who worked on it alongside Peter Tolan (Rescue Me) and Michael Wimer. Miranda Otto, Necar Zadegan, John Ortiz, David Harbour...
