Kerry Sanders has announced his retirement from NBC News after 32 years.
The 62-year-old news correspondent first joined the network in 1991, after working as a reporter for NBC’s affiliate Wtvj in Miami.
Appearing on the Today show on Tuesday morning (17 January), alongside fellow hosts Jenna Bush, Hoda Kotb, Al Roker, Craig Melvin and Carson Daly, Sanders was honoured for his 32 years of “fearlessly reporting stories around the planet”.
After broadcasting a highlight reel of Sander’s “illustrious career” – including on-air clips of him jumping out of a helicopter, ziplining across snowy mountains, and rock climbing – Sanders shared a few words about what he would “miss most”.
“Ultimately, it’s the camaraderie and the family, because this is a daily, high-energy experience,” he said.
Sanders praised his wife Deborah for being “an amazing supporter”, before explaining his decision to exit the network: “We kind of sat and said, ‘This might be the right time,...

Kerry Sanders is retiring after 32 years at NBC News.
The correspondent appeared on Today on Tuesday during a segment that looked back at his career.
Sanders is based in Florida, but his work as a correspondent has taken him around the world. He said that he has traveled about 200 days out of the year. “What will I miss most? Ultimately, it’s the camaraderie and the family, because this is a daily, high-energy experience,” he said.
Sanders was a reporter at NBC affiliate Wtvj in Miami when he joined the network in 1991.
Sanders said on Today, “My wife, Deborah, has been an amazing supporter, but we kind of sat and said, ‘This might be the right time,’ because during the pandemic, we weren’t going anywhere as you all know, and we realized we do really good together all the time, so maybe that is what we should do now.

Ken Bruce has become the latest veteran presenter to leave BBC Radio 2, leaving the corporation after 45 years to host a show on commercial rival, Greatest Hits Radio.
The 71-year-old has been on the station since 1984, but told listeners: “I’ve done everything it is possible to do at Radio 2.”
He has hosted the 9:30am to 12pm weekday show since 1990, and been with the BBC since 1977 where he began as a presenter on Radio Scotland.
It comes after Steve Wright was nudged out his Radio 2 afternoon slot, with Simon Mayo, Graham Norton and Paul O’Grady also moving on in recent months.
“After 45 years of broadcasting on BBC Radio, it’s time for a change,” Bruce said on Tuesday.
“I would stress that this is entirely my decision. I will always be very proud of my association with the BBC and Radio 2.”

Hurricane Michael has temporarily elbowed Hurricane Trump out of the headlines — actually, that’s probably more wish than reality. However, as news operations shift resources toward covering the massive Category 4 storm in the Florida panhandle, countless news reporters and weathercasters will drape themselves with station-logo ponchos — the better to get drenched and steel themselves against 155 mph winds, all in the name of a kickass live shot.
In the scheme of things, it’s silly: Everyone knows it’s really, really windy outside. And it’s clearly dangerous; as TV writer Kevin Biegel shared on Twitter, “Can the reporters in Florida please stop with the weather porn of standing in the wind? Growing up in Florida we knew of a woman whose boyfriend was decapitated by a piece of plywood in a hurricane — don’t go outside, you dolts.”
Logic be damned: If there’s a chance to abandon the safety...

Reporters have been on the scene in Florida as Hurricane Irma continues to devastate the areas, and now some are saving animals on the job.
NBC’s Kerry Sanders and Fox 4 reporter Tony Russell found themselves completing the unexpected assignment of saving dolphins that had washed ashore on Marco Island, along the Gulf Coast.
Sanders, who teamed up with some Good Samaritans, saved not one, but two dolphins within less than an hour time frame on Monday.
The first of the mammals was just a baby and local resident had found him washed all the way up onto the sidewalk.

It has been thirty years since the murder of Jennifer Levin by a handsome prep school student made national headlines. Now, the victim's mother is speaking out about the man who killed her daughter - and the news reports she said unfairly cast her daughter in a negative light. "As far as I'm concerned, he doesn't exist for me," Ellen Levin said of Robert Chambers - dubbed the "Preppy Killer" - during a Wednesday interview on the Today show. In August 1986, 18-year-old Jennifer was found strangled to death in New York City's Central Park. Chambers pleaded guilty to manslaughter and...

Note to MSNBC location scouts: Probably best not to do a live segment in a confined space filled with active gunfire. Correspondent Kerry Sanders tried to do a stand-up on the Nevada Gop caucuses from a Reno gun range on Tuesday, but his message got lost. Mostly because of the barrage of semi-automatic gunfire behind him. Also Read: Did Leaked Audio Catch Donald Trump and MSNBC Conspiring on Town Hall Questions? “I’m actually right now at Reno Guns & Range,” Sanders began his report, “and I put myself here because as you’ll see over my shoulder here, there’s...

MSNBC came under fire on Friday during its search of the San Bernardino shooters’ home for revealing unedited photos of individuals who may not have been the killers, including social security cards and driver licenses. “I’m going to guess these are the photographs of Malik,” reporter Kerry Sanders said as the network showed four images of a woman, guessing it was one of the two killers, Tashfeen Malik. “But we don’t know if it’s her,” Sanders continued.
