- [on composing for the Drive-By Truckers] Every now and then we might toss something at each other in the studio, but the songs pretty much come in written as we want them. There are always one or two that will come to be, over the course of doing the recording. For me it's great because I don't write that many new songs. I can come in with what I've got and don't feel the pressure to come up with an album's worth of stuff.
- [on technical changes in recording over the years] I grew up with them. I was in college when CDs first became the format, in the '80s. I was slow to warm to digital, and never really did. As a portable format I thought they were inferior to cassettes.. Several years ago, around the time we started the band, I started appreciating how good records sounded again. I'd buy a bunch of used ones from time to time, then it became the cool thing to do. Luckily we've been able to put out our stuff on vinyl. I love seeing our stuff out on the format I grew up with.
