Jeff Garlin loves former co-star Selena Gomez, but he doesn't love seeing the young actress and singer "sexualized" in Hollywood.
During an appearance on HuffPost Live Tuesday, the former Wizards of Waverly Place star expressed his disappointment about what young stars endure in the public eye today.
"I worked with [Gomez] for three years, and I love her. She is, at least in terms of what I saw, a great kid," he explained to host Josh Zepps. "But then I see her sexualized."
One specific example is when the "Come and Get it" singer starred in the indie movie, Spring Breakers. In the film, Gomez and her female co-stars enjoy a wild spring break that turns into the party of a lifetime.

Chris D'Elia, star of NBC's summer comedy series “Undateable,” lashed out at the Twitter hashtag campaign #YesAllWomen, calling it “rude” to the victims of the shooting rampage at Uc Santa Barbara. Many women tweeted #YesAllWomen last weekend to note examples of sexism and violence they've experienced in their lives, which D'Elia ridiculed on social media. HuffPost Live's Josh Zepps asked D'Elia on Thursday why he mocked the campaign. Teen soap "Pretty Little Liars" has taken a particularly dark turn this season, especially for The Fields family.
Pam (Nia Peeples) faced allegations of child abuse after she grabbed her daughter Emily's (Shay Mitchell) arm during an argument in front of her high school. The police investigation is most likely the work of the elusive "A" and it might be the furthest the faceless blackmailer has gone thus far on the ABC Family series.
During an interview with HuffPost Live's Josh Zepps about her new beauty initiative More Than Skin Deep, Peeples said she's happy with the heavy subject matter because it gives her a challenge.
"I was thrilled to see something come my way that really made my character walk a difficult path," she said. "It's much more challenging for me. I prefer that."
Peeples said the child abuse storyline is an invigorating arc for her character after...

Well it seems The Doors' music might not be so far off from Jay Z's rap lyrics today ... at least according to the king of rap himself. Doors drummer and author of "The Doors: Unhinged" John Densmore joined HuffPost Live's Josh Zepps and opened up about Jay Z's letter to him.
Shamelessly calling himself a "curmudgeon" who didn't understand hip-hop at the time, Densmore says, "[Jay Z] wrote me a letter saying, 'Hey, we're fighting the authority just like you guys did back then.'" Jay didn't stop there, sending him a t-shirt as a token of appreciation
It looks like Jay Z has won Densmore over ... he's still got that tee and isn't giving it up any time soon.

Judah Friedlander has some time on his hands now that "30 Rock" is over, but he's keeping busy by touring the country doing stand-up and supporting low-paid fast food employees.
During a chat with HuffPost Live's Josh Zepps, Friedlander expressed his support for food industry workers who are protesting their low wages.
"I'm with all the McDonald's employees, man, and all the fast food workers, 100 percent," Friedlander said.
But his support isn't just verbal. He took it a step further and offered up a little something special for the struggling workers.
"I'm doing shows this weekend in Rochester. If you tweet at me and show proof that you're a fast food employee, I'll get you some free tickets to the shows," he said.

Gay porn mogul Michael Lucas wrote at length about his use of Truvada, or pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), as an HIV prevention method in an Op-Ed for Out magazine.
Lucas, who is HIV negative, spoke to HuffPost Live host Josh Zepps about his use of the drug, and why he feels more sexually active gay men should opt to use it.

During a HuffPost Live segment Friday about "Iron Man 3," and how to turn a comic book into a major motion picture, Jason Segel, star of the hit television show "How I Met Your Mother," made a surprise appearance live from his home in California.
One of the scheduled guests, "Iron Man 3" co-writer Drew Pearce, joined HuffPost Live via Google Hangout from Segel's home, as the two are working on a new film about punk rockers coming of age.
When HuffPost Live host Josh Zepps first asked Pearce whether Segel could join the segment, Pearce claimed that Segel was "in the loo." But later in the segment, and after further urging from Zepps, Segel popped in and talked adapting the "Muppets," his new children's book, and how he's headed to Comic-Con Saturday to appear with the rest of the "How I Met Your Mother" cast members.

Eric McCormack may be known as one-fourth of the hilarious cast of "Will & Grace," but he originally wanted to be part of another ensemble.
When the actor sat down with HuffPost Live's Josh Zepps to discuss his latest role on TNT's "Perception," McCormack opened up about his acting career, including the fact that he auditioned for the role of Ross Gellar on "Friends" while working in theater.
"I was so kind of done with that previous phase. I needed to start pulling at this other sort of funnier, lighter side. So I auditioned for everything," he said. "I auditioned for 'Friends' even. I auditioned for [David] Schwimmer's part."
Reminiscing about his past, he continued, "Years later, I told Jimmy Burrows, who directed all of 'Will & Grace' ... and 'Friends' too ... [that] I was up for Schwimmer's part. He said, 'Oh, honey, you're wasting your time. They wrote the part for him.'...

Turns out Wilmer Valderrama is even more hysterical in real life than he is as Fez, according to his "That '70s Show" co-star Laura Prepon.
"My director would never put [Wilmer] next to me in scenes," said Prepon, who played Donna Pinciotti, while speaking with HuffPost Live's Josh Zepps earlier this week.
"He would make me laugh so hard that it would literally ruin takes," she continued, reminiscing about how her director would have to separate the two of them on set.
Prepon stars as an international drug dealer in Netflix's new show "Orange Is The New Black," premiering July 11.

Russell Brand stopped by HuffPost Live on Tuesday and shared some thoughts on the Nsa's leaked domestic surveillance program and the self-outed whistleblower Edward Snowden.
"I believe there needs to be a structural shift in how we regard leaders," Brand told host Josh Zepps. "In old times ... our chiefs would be in our service. These people would be replaced if they betrayed us. They would know that the privilege afforded to them came at great expense."
The actor, comedian and astute blogger said the revealed Nsa program -- which records domestics telephony metadata and other electronic communications -- constituted "a betrayal of our trust" and took issue with how the media and government have painted Snowden and WikiLeaks leaker Bradley Manning. "They make it about personalities, about superficialities," he said. "'Oh, this bloke fancies fellas,' or 'he looks weird.' I saw something on the news the other day,...

Russell Brand may be a notorious flirt, but the 38-year-old comedian swears by monogamy when it comes to marriage. In an interview with "HuffPost Live" Tuesday morning, Brand told host Josh Zepps that as a married man, "monogamy right down the middle" was the way to go.
"I don't think monogamy is an impediment to anything if it's a philosophical choice that you make," he said. "I do query monogamy. It's a very severe state."
He added: "It's a hard-core thing, monogamy. It's a hard-core principle. But beautiful, and to be recommended. And if you make a commitment to it, you've got to do it. When I was married, monogamy straight down the middle. You can't mess around with that stuff."
Brand was famously married to pop singer Katy Perry for just 14 months, from October 2010 to December 2011. He told Esquire U.K. magazine earlier this month that he "loved" marriage...

These days, our knowledge of celebrities too often originates with paparazzi images and snarky quotes by anonymous "insiders." After a while, it's easy to forget that stars are real people. That's why HuffPost Celebrity decided to launch its all-new #nofilter quick-fire question and answer series. Because how well do you know someone until they've shared their guiltiest pleasures?
Oh, Russell Brand. Not only is he one of the funniest comedians in town, Brand is extremely bright as well, which made for a very interesting #nofilter challenge. The British motormouth stopped by HuffPost Live this morning (June 11) to discuss his new tour, "The Messiah Complex," but instead got into controversial conversations about sex, sexuality and monogamy. Plus, he got so frustrated with host Josh Zepps' computer, that he gave it the so-called H20 virus. (Yes, he dumped a glass of water all over Josh's laptop ... and it's my fault).
What's your guilty pleasure?...

What's the most number of orgasms Russell Brand has ever had? That's the pressing question at least one fan of the 38-year-old comedian wanted to know the answer to, judging from this wildly unhinged interview on "HuffPost Live" with host Josh Zepps Tuesday morning.
When asked by a fan -- from her bed, no less -- what topped his list in sexual climaxes, Brand answered with the number nine. "Once in Dublin. Nine. Not even in a day, an evening, I felt exhausted the next day. After I came off drugs, I had a lot of energy that needed to go somewhere, and I thought … that way," he said.
He added: "But you've got to make sure everyone is happy. I think that that person you're having sex with must have an orgasm first, or you're not fulfilling your duty as a man."

In an interview with BBC this week, award-winning British actor Jeremy Irons maintained that he doesn't have any problem with gay marriage, despite controversial comments about same-sex marriage and incest made earlier on HuffPost Live.
Speaking with HuffPost Live host Josh Zepps earlier in April, Irons said same-sex marriage could open the door for a father to marry his son.
Historically, marriage has been about procreation, Irons reflected in the BBC sit down. He then said he didn't mean anything by his earlier comments about gay marriage. (Although, he admitted he didn't know the difference between civil partnerships and marriage.)
"I was just rather amused by the idea which I put forward," he said. "It had nothing to do with my feelings. I think gay marriage is wonderful."
As BBC host Stephen Sackur pressed the Oscar winner, Irons added that the incest point was really taken out of context.

Pink Floyd's Roger Waters made headlines last month by calling for a boycott of Israel, saying he has urged other musicians to boycott the country in support for Palestine. But he told HuffPost Live host Josh Zepps Monday that he is now rethinking that position.
"I am considering my position," Waters said of the boycott. "The letter asking my fellow musicians to boycott Israel has never appeared. I am thinking all of this through extremely carefully and I'm thinking it all through extremely carefully because I care more about the outcome, because I care about the people involved, than I do about the moment."
Waters said that he is being "very, very careful to avoid some kind of dramatic moment that could very easily blow up" and undermine his influence in the longer term.
Waters was recently scheduled to speak at the 92nd Street Y in New York, but his appearance was canceled.

Actor Jeremy Irons sounded off on the controversy that ensued after his gay marriage remarks in a HuffPost Live interview earlier this week.
The 64-year-old stage and screen veteran posted a letter which appeared on the website JeremyIrons.net, calling the media's implication that he is anti-gay "as far from the truth of me as to say that I believe the earth is flat."
In the letter, which has since been excerpted by The Advocate, Towleroad, Pink News and number of other media outlets, Irons wrote:
"Perhaps rather too flippantly I flew the kite of an example of the legal quagmire that might occur if same sex marriage entered the statute books, by raising the possibility of future marriage between same sex family members for tax reasons, (incest being illegal primarily in order to prevent inbreeding, and therefore an irrelevance in non reproductive relationships)."

"Beautiful Creatures" star Jeremy Irons thinks legalizing same-sex marriage will create loopholes that will let lawyers run wild. That's the thrust of his controversial comments on "HuffPost Live" about same-sex marriage and incest.
The Oscar winning actor sat down with host Josh Zepps to discuss, among other things, the topic of same-sex marriage, which is currently being debated in both the U.S. and Irons' native England. Irons says he doesn't have a strong opinion one way or the other on the issue, but ... "I just worry about that," he says. "I mean, tax-wise is an interesting one, because you see, could a father not marry his son?"
When Zepps points out there are laws against incest, Irons responds, "It's not incest between men. Incest is there to protect us from having inbreeding. But men don't breed, so incest wouldn't cover that. Now if that was so, then if I...

Dr. Venus Nicolino -- a.k.a "Dr. V" -- has made a living out of dispensing guidance, on and off the small screen. But she's not convinced parents should treat the counsel of "experts" as gospel, she said in a Monday appearance on HuffPost Live.
The "La Shrinks" star and HuffPost blogger told host Josh Zepps she couldn't offer parenting advice herself, per se -- but she did have a few observations based on her own experience raising her two sons and nephews.
"One of the biggest things that I've learned as a parent is that you're constantly improvising," she said, comparing moms and dads to members of jazz bands.
"We know how to be parents," she explained, noting that she didn't think parents should "feel they have to adopt a very specific way of being with their children" because "that sucks all of our motherly and fatherly instincts away from us.

"We know how to be parents," she explained, noting that she didn't think parents should "feel they have to adopt a very specific way of being with their children" because "that sucks all of our motherly and fatherly instincts away from us.

Bill Carter, the New York Times reporter who has extensively covered the so-called "Late Night Wars" for the Times and in two books since the early '90s, wrote last week that NBC was building a new studio for Jimmy Fallon with the expectation that Fallon will use it when taking over "The Tonight Show" in 2014.
He stopped by HuffPost Live to unpack the story with host Josh Zepps, as well as HuffPost TV critic Maureen Ryan and comic Myq Kaplan. Check out the clip above to hear the leading expert on the drama speak out on the subject.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney has taken on corruption and torture in his documentaries "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" and "Taxi to the Dark Side", never holding his tongue when it comes to discussing controversial topics. Gibney spoke to HuffPost Live host Josh Zepps about how torture in "Zero Dark Thirty" is represented, and criticized the film's suggestion that torture lead to the capture of Osama Bin Laden.
"In the film, what's missing is the context of how damaging torture was not only to the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, how much it threw us off the trail because of false information obtained," said Gibney, "but how disastrous it was in all sorts of circumstances." Gibney referenced how false information obtained under torture contributed to the decision to invade Iraq, and returned to "Zero Dark Thirty," saying "there's no counter narrative in the film, no sense of the disastrous...

Last week, an anonymous fan of comedian Chris Gethard contacted him on Tumblr seeking help. The fan identified with Gethard's comedy, which often revolves around his struggles with depression and self-doubt, and when the fan's thoughts started to turn suicidal, he or she asked Gethard for his advice.
The comedian responded with a nearly 7,000-word revelatory missive that detailed instances from his own life when he felt that he hit rock bottom and how he has been able to come out of it. His extraordinary response to someone he didn't even know quickly became shared thousands of times on Tumblr and other social media outlets. Clearly, something struck a nerve.
Does this mean that today's comedy fans have a different relationship with comedians and with comedy than previous generations? The rise of intimate comedy portraits like "Wtf with Marc Maron" and "Louie" would seem to indicate that comedy is becoming something more fragile,...

American Idol judge Randy Jackson stopped by HuffPost Live Monday to talk about living with diabetes and to judge the vocal talents of some HuffPost Live hosts.
Randy spoke to Marc Lamont Hill about being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes nine years ago and described the life changes he was forced to make to cope with the disease.
"You gotta make your doctor your homey," Jackson said about the need for diabetics to make regular visits to their doctors for tests and to set goals to manage the disease. He also stressed the need to exercise regularly and reject the fatty foods that he grew up with in the South, namely "cakes and pecan candy."
Jackson writes on the Taking Diabetes to Heart website: "I learned that having type 2 diabetes increases my risk for heart disease, among other long-term complications. This was the push I needed to take my diabetes to heart.
