Created by Alan Ball and inspired by The Southern Vampire Mysteries, a series of novels by Charlaine Harris, the TV series True Blood ran on HBO for seven seasons, from 2008 to 2014, ending up with a total of 80 episodes. 42 of those episodes featured Joe Manganiello as the werewolf character Alcide Herveaux. Introduced in season 3, Alcide was only supposed to be a guest star for that particular season – but he proved to be so popular with viewers, he was kept around… until season 7, when he was killed off. Not surprisingly, Manganiello wasn’t happy with the way his character went out. In fact, he was so displeased with Alcide being killed off, he feels he still has unfinished werewolf business to this day.
During an interview on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, Manganiello said (with thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the transcription), “I thought there was so much left on the table for me.

Regardless of genre, fans place an enormous amount of expectation on series finales. It's not easy to carry the responsibility of wrapping up any extraneous plot threads and character arcs in a satisfying way for longtime audiences. Even the most acclaimed shows, like "Seinfeld" and "The Sopranos," can have their entire successful run overshadowed by middling or divisive reception to their respective finales. This distinction carries over to horror TV shows, with plenty of notable series marring their celebrated legacies because of the last impressions left by divisive final episodes.
Horror shows often suffer from abrupt cancellations, denying audiences a satisfying amount of closure thanks to anticlimactic endings that don't live up to fan expectations. Even some of the most enduring and iconic horror shows have come to a close with lackluster finales. Here are the most maligned endings that ruined the legacies of TV horror classics by failing to stick the landing.

It was recently announced that RBmedia's GraphicAudio brand is releasing three original Hellboy audiobooks written by Christopher Golden! The first audiobook, Hellboy: A Plague Of Wasps, is scheduled for release at the end of the month and I had a chance to catch up with Christopher Golden to learn more about his experience telling new these stories in the Hellboy Universe:
You've written Hellboy comics and are the co-writer on the upcoming film. How did you first get involved with writing the three upcoming Hellboy audiobooks?
CG: I’d started working on a big audio project for another company, and it occurred to me that it would be really fun to create some new adventures with Hellboy in audio. At the same time, it turned out that more than one company had approached Dark Horse about the same thing. Graphic Audio had adapted Cemetery Girl, a trilogy of graphic novels...

Realm, the largest scripted podcast network, today announced the upcoming release of America 2.0, a scripted audio drama starring Patrick J Adams (“Suits”) as an idealistic first term congressman, launching May 2.
Entangled in his first ever controversy, Seth McGuire (Adams) finds himself ill-equipped to navigate D.C.’s treachery. His only hope comes from a big idea to give every American citizen one million dollars.
Inspired by the optimistic storytelling in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and The West Wing, co-creators J S Mayank and David Carlyle wanted to put out a message of hope. “Politics is supposed to be aspirational, and yet it’s become anything but. Our cast and crew wanted to bring back high-minded, civil discourse—all while making politics entertaining again,” said Mayank.

As you may recall, it was announced back in 2020 that HBO was developing a series reboot of their hit vampire series “True Blood,” with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa leading the charge. Based on the novels by Charlaine Harris and created by Alan Ball, HBO’s vampire/werewolf/were-panther/you-name-it series aired between 2008 and 2014, officially coming to an end after seven seasons and 80 episodes.
But what’s the latest on HBO’s “True Blood” reboot? Well, according to a new article from Variety this week, those plans from back in 2020 are dead-in-the-water here in 2023.
HBO and HBO Max content CEO Casey Bloys tells Variety that while a few scripts had been written for a potential “True Blood” reboot, nothing ended up coming together. It seems the project was only ever in the early stages, and HBO wasn’t confident enough to proceed. That doesn’t mean “True Blood” will Never be back, but...

Fantastical elements have been part of television since 1964's "Bewitched" and 1965's "I Dream of Jeannie. In the following decades, the genre's popularity has only grown, moving beyond family-friendly sitcoms. The '90s brought us "Hercules" and "Xena: Warrior Princess." The 2000s ushered in the massive cultural phenomenon of "Lost." The world of fantasy television is wonderfully expansive, featuring some of the most critically-acclaimed television -- from philosophical comedies like "The Good Place" to time travel romantic dramas like "Outlander," to high fantasy tales of intrigue and betrayal like "House of the Dragon." For every beloved series, there's a critically-panned fantasy flop. Every "Game of Thrones" season 1, there's a "Game of Thrones" season 8.

The agency will represent the media rights to the author’s novels with the goal of sales for motion picture and streaming minseries adaptations.
Puzo is best known for Godfather, his 1969 novel that was on the New York Times best-seller list for 67 weeks and reportedly sold 9 million copies in two years. The author gained further fame when Francis Ford Coppola adapted the book into the classic film starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. Paramount may own those rights, but APA is betting that in this age of insatiable hunger for stories, there will be plenty of interest in the author’s many other works.

The future looks bleak for the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries franchise following Candace Cameron Bure‘s decision to leave Hallmark and sign a deal with Gac Media. According to Variety, there are no plans for new films in the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries series. The Hallmark Channel has previously produced 18 movies in the franchise, based on the books by True Blood author Charlaine Harris. Bure starred as the lead in all 18 films and was one of the faces of Hallmark, mostly known for her Countdown to Christmas content, which included 11 holiday movies over the years. However, on Tuesday, it was announced that Bure had signed an agreement with Gac Media, the rebranded Great American Country network run by Bill Abbott, the former president of Hallmark Channel’s parent company Crown Media. Bure’s deal will see her develop, produce, and star in programming across Gac Family and Gac Living, and she will...

Although there's been talk around town about a potential reboot of HBO's True Blood, there's been a lot of skepticism since the network never addressed the rumors.

“There’s no green light imminent on that,” he told the outlet.
“I wouldn’t say it’s as far along as, say, the Game of Thrones [spinoff House of Dragon]. We definitely have a writer working on an idea for sure, but I think that it’s fair to say it’s not quite as far along as people think. It’s [not] coming on the air next year. It’s a long way away from that.”

It looks like fans will be returning to Bon Temps in the near future, but don't expect Anna Paquin to be a part of the rumored reboot.

The actress later clarified that she's not mad about HBO's reported reboot.

True Blood only finished its final and least impressive season six years ago, but it’s been decided that this is long enough to warrant the series being rebooted. Naturally, fans of the show are less than pleased with the announcement, and haven’t been shy in making their feelings known.
Social media reaction to any kind of reboot or remake is usually negative, but the news of True Blood being done again has provoked a particularly vocal outcry, where it didn’t involve people taking the opportunity to relive just how horny both the series was and it made them.

Seven seasons, six years of patience, and several rewatches later, Sookie, Bill, and the rest of the gang are returning to our screens for a True Blood reboot on HBO, and we can't wait to sink our teeth into every moment of it. Based on a series of novels by Charlaine Harris, the original show - which aired from 2008 to 2014 - took a look at life in Bon Temps, LA, a small town where the development of a synthetic blood allowed vampires to walk among the living. This resulted in countless onscreen deaths and a lot of sexual tension, and we expect the reboot will deliver the same.
The reboot is still in its early writing stages and will be led by Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and the show's original creator, Alan Ball. So far, no casting details or release date have been announced, but...

Possibly more than we realize, many TV shows are based on books.
Often the same books get readapted over and over again as new TV shows -- think of how many TV series Sherlock Holmes alone spawned.
It's a good thing because far too often the TV adaptation can't measure up to the books, isn't given enough time to find an audience, or could benefit from an update.
Based on George R.R. Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire series, Game of Thrones was a mega-hit but ended its run as one of TV's greatest disappointments.
Why did the series crash and burn like King's Landing on Game of Throne Season 8 Episode 5?
In general, the more faithful Game of Thrones was to the books, the better the TV series was. You can easily see this from the unevenness of Game of Thrones Season 2.

While many of us are still adhering to social distancing, binging new (or old) television shows has become a common activity to get us through the days.
Sometimes you are just not in the mood to watch a show as intricate and complicated as Game of Thrones.
Real life can be hectic enough as it is. In those moments when life gets too crazy, you might want to sit back and enjoy a light-hearted watch by escaping to small-town America in one of these shows.
Stars Hollow, Ct (Gilmore Girls)
The Bid-a-Basket fundraiser. Knit-a-Thon fundraiser. Festival of Living Art. Revolutionary War Reenactment. The 24-hour dance marathon. These are just a few of the many events typical of Stars Hollow, Ct.
Stars Hollow has so many eccentricities. You'll find yourself marveling at their ability to create an event just as ridiculous as the last. Most episodes even consist of a town meeting!

We're running down our favorite shows of the decade! In addition to our favorite action/adventure series and favorite procedurals, and relationship-focused programming, we're on to a big one -- supernatural series!
Here is a reminder that we have almost two dozen favorites lists, and since we couldn't showcase every show on every list, we parsed them out a bit to make it more fun.
And these lists are not in any particular order. They're in the order the entries were received by TV Fanatic staff, so don't read into them!
To qualify, a show that began in another decade had to be airing during the decade, run a larger number of seasons from 2010 through 2019 if it started before 2010 or run the entire decade. Here we go!

Exclusive: In a competitive situation, Amazon Studios has won the rights to Grishaverse author Leigh Bardugo’s just released novel Ninth House to develop as a series, with Bardugo attached to write the adaptation and executive produce.
Ninth House, published October 8 by Flatiron Books, is Bardugo’s first novel for adults. It is set at an alternate Yale, Bardugo’s real-life alma mater, where the secret societies guard dangerous, magical secrets and ghosts haunt the campus.
A book of the month selection at Apple, Barnes & Noble and Amazon, Ninth House has an order for 350,000 copies for its first print run. It triggered a bidding war among premium and streaming outlets, with HBO and Hulu reportedly among those pursuing the title.
Bardugo will executive produce the project alongside her frequent collaborator Pouya Shahbazian (the Divergent series), head of film & TV at New Leaf.

Adapting books for television (or movies) has always come loaded with pros and cons.
On the one hand, you have a built-in fan base, ready-made characters and settings, and a tried-and-true plot.
Related: Enjoy Unlimited access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video. Watch Anywhere. Cancel Anytime!
On the other, you have purist fanatics ready to tear you a new one if your actualization of their 'verse doesn't meet their expectations on Every level.
I admit I may have dabbled in the fanatical side of things at times myself.
However, I (usually) understand the need to make changes to the original narrative. It may need updating, depending on when the book was written, or it may require simplifying if the source material is too convoluted for a television audience to follow.
Characters are trickier because readers get very attached to their characters.
But, again, hard decisions...

Unless you’re a mystery fan and a lover of Charlaine Harris you might not know that much about the Aurora Teagarden series, which is perfectly understandable since it is another niche that a lot of people know about but isn’t pushed as much as others. In that regard it is fully enjoyed by those that happen to like the series but it’s also open to any fans that want to take a look and perhaps decide that they like the actors or the story that’s being presented. There are a few well-known actors that appear in these stories, a fact

Are you a fan of Midnight, Texas? Recently, the stars and creators have posted farewell messages for the cancelled NBC TV show.
Based on the books by Charlaine Harris, the supernatural drama unfolds in the remote Texas town of Midnight, a haven for those hiding out from the world. There, only outsiders belong while normality is just plain weird. The cast includes François Arnaud, Dylan Bruce, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Arielle Kebbel, Jason Lewis, and Peter Mensah.

Last September, as NBC’s Midnight, Texas neared its Season 1 finale, I feared End Times were upon us.
Though the summer series’ ratings had risen throughout its inaugural run, it was far from a lock for a renewal. The drama, loosely based on Charlaine Harris’ novels, was very quirky. It was about a ragtag bunch of supernatural beings living in a small, desert town. And though Midnight, Texas had heart, style and a healthy sense of what it was (and wasn’t), it also had some of the worst special effects seen on TV since Supernatural‘s Leviathans.

Exclusive: Another classic Rod Serling anthology series is getting a revival. In a competitive situation, Syfy has landed a re-imagination of Night Gallery, from Teen Wolf creator/executive producer Jeff Davis and Midnight, Texas executive producer David Janollari. Picked up for development, the project will be co-produced by Universal TV, where David Janollari Entertainment is based, and Universal Cable Prods.
Night Gallery, which ran on NBC from 1969-73 on NBC, was Sterling’s supernatural/horror follow-up to his sci-fi-themed anthology series The Twilight Zone. Serling was the host of Night Gallery, appearing in an art gallery setting to introduce each segment of an episode by unveiling a painting that illustrated the story (you can watch a promo below).
Serling, who also was one of the main writers on the series, is said to have handpicked then-21-year-old Steven Spielberg to direct a segment in the pilot episode, which he had written.

After scoring a last second renewal, the cast and crew of Midnight, Texas worked to create a stronger True Blood descendant.
Midnight is fast approaching on the set of Midnight, Texas.
The mountain scenery surrounding the town is barely visible and the only lights are from Midnight, Texas, itself – or at least the staged approximation of Midnight in the desert just outside Albuquerque, New Mexico. The neon lights of Strong Angel Tattoo and Nails parlor are lit up with a second set of neon light lights unnecessarily announcing “Tattoo Nails.” The Midnight Pawnshop’s sign is lit up, promising entrance 6 days a week, 24 hours a day – but no one is inside.
Instead, the cast and crew of NBC’s adaptation of author Charlaine Harris’ supernatural books are assembled inside the Crystal Desert Hotel & Spa, shooting an integral scene from Midnight, Texas’ Season 2 two-part finale.
