Robert S. McCleary
- Art Department
Born in Naugatuck, CT to Charles D. McCLeary (who worked to invent
synthetic rubber and later plastics at US Rubber - Later Uniroyal -
during WW 2) and Mary G. McCleary the Minister of Music at the local
Congregational Church (United Church of Christ). Bob loved TV and
movies, but there wasn't much opportunity to get involved in production
in Naugatuck, so he got involved in local theatre. Bob majored in
theatre at the College of Wooster and later earned more credits at Mary
Baldwin College and Virginia Western Community College (VWCC), but
never completed a degree. After interning at The Cleveland Play House
Bob married Donna DeVol and moved to Roanoke, VA. His brief film work
came just before and during his 19 year stretch of work at VWCC as a
Technical Director and Instructor. When the new college president moved
him to the computer department, he set out on a two and one half year
quest and found employment at The York Little Theatre where he in one
of three remaining employees after budget cutting.
