The Tribeca Film Festival announced programming today for its N.O.W. (New Online Works) section, an inspired array of established and emerging creators who are pushing the boundaries of online storytelling.

Top-lining the section is the premiere of “Awake, A Dream from Standing Rock,” a documentary from the Oscar-nominated team of Josh Fox and James Spione and Executive Producer Shailene Woodley. The project is a collaboration with indigenous filmmaker Myron Dewey about the Native-led resistance against the Dakota Access Pipeline. Eli Roth’s Crypt TV will premiere “Monster Madness,” a series of several character shorts; and Op-Docs, The New York Times’ award-winning forum for short, opinionated documentaries, will screen three films at the Festival.

Netflix has acquired its first original series to be shot and produced in Spain, snagging Velvet and Gran Reserva director Carlos Sedes for a 1920s-era, female-driven drama. The 16-episode as-yet-untitled series is set to start shooting in Madrid later this year, with Bambu Producciones' Ramon Campos and Teresa Fernandez-Valdes executive producing. The drama, running in 50-minute time slots, will debut worldwide in 2017. It tells the story of four women across different social strata who work together as switchboard operators at the state-owned phone company's central headquarters in Madrid. Velvet, the Spanish period drama series from Grand Hotel makers bambu, has been picked up by France M6 and Rai Uno in Italy. Rai has also picked up local remake rights for the 1950s-set series which traces the forbidden love affair between a simple seamstress and the heir to a Spanish fashion empire.
