Back in the summer of 1979, flyers were distributed throughout West
Hollywood and Los Angeles publicizing the start of a gay men's chorus.
Not knowing if anyone else would show up, 99 men gathered at Plummer
Park Community Center. As a result, the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles
(GMCLA) was born!
Since that date, the Chorus has traveled nationally and
internationally, released 13 CDs, commissioned hundreds of new works
and arrangements of choral music, helped perpetuate men's choral
singing through the gay choral movement, and has even appeared in film
and on television. GMCLA is proud of its first 25 years of service to
the Los Angeles community and looks forward to many more.
