The concept of “The Lovers” is almost too cute: Middle-aged married couple Michael (Tracy Letts) and Mary (Debra Winger) lost interest in each other long ago, and have both launched extramarital affairs, promising their paramours that a divorce is on the horizon. In the midst of planning breakups, however, Michael and Marry suddenly rediscover the passion of their marriage, delay their secret plans to split, and the cheating dynamic twists around. The very notion of faithfulness is turned on its ear.
It’s enough to fuel a lightly satisfying studio romcom, and it already has — Nancy Meyers’ “It’s Complicated” — but “The Lovers” writer-director Azazel Jacobs has a more delicate approach. The movie deals less with awkwardness of this comedic scenario than the emotions it creates for its central duo, and the psychological struggle when words can only go so far.

Exclusive: Director working with electro-pop composer Igorrr and choreographer Philippe Decouflé. Musical “Jeannette” from “Slack Bay” director will shoot in August.
French director Bruno Dumont has revealed first details about his musical film Jeannette exploring French heroine Joan of Arc’s spiritual and patriotic awakening as a child, which is due to shoot in northern France this August.
The new film work is based on The Mystery of the Charity of Jeanne d’Arc, a poem by 20th-century poet and essayist Charles Péguy capturing Joan of Arc’s humble upbringing and the visions that sparked her decision to join the struggle against the English in the latter stages of the Hundred Years’ War.
Speaking at a private presentation to buyers at the Carlton, organised by Paris-based sales company Luxbox, Dumont said the project had been born out of a desire to make a musical film rather than explore the life of Joan of Arc.

Here’s a thing about being caught unawares by movies: It doesn’t happen all that often. Obviously. If most movies were surprising, then we wouldn’t be surprised when they are. But most movies are not surprising. Most movies tell same-old stories in same-old ways. But to not know what you’re looking at or why what you’re looking at is being presented to you in such an extraordinary way? To not know where this can possibly go? When that happens, it reminds you why you fell in love with the movies in the first place, and how infrequently that love is genuinely engaged.

The light outside the window bleeds into the asylum, but it’s only a glimmer. The hope remains on the other side of the pane; its glow enlightening the entrapping interior. Every character in Elephant Song is incarcerated in a mental institution, some doctors, others patients, yet the thing that unites them is that on this cold Christmas day there is the unshakable feeling that past trauma is returning. This year, they aren’t spending the holiday inside their warm homes. Instead, they’re investigating a doctor’s disappearance as well as their inner selves.
Dr. Lawrence has vanished and the head of the hospital, Dr. Green, interrogates a manipulative patient named Michael, who may know the missing doctor’s whereabouts. The patient suffers from an undisclosed mental disability yet he is clearly intelligent, thoughtful and capable of pushing buttons to get what he wants. Michael complies and agrees with Dr.

Two days after Oprah Winfrey’s Own announced a docu-series about Michael Sam, the first openly gay football player to be drafted into the NFL, the network is putting the project on hold. “After careful consideration and discussion with the St. Louis Rams, The Untitled Michael Sam Project has been postponed, allowing Michael the best opportunity to achieve his dream of making the team,” the network said today. “We will continue to support him in his journey to earn a spot playing for the Rams.” The decision comes after the announcement of Sam’s Own series was met with mixed reaction, with some contending it could be a distraction, and the NFL denying it had any knowledge of it before the draft. Produced in partnership with Pilgrim Studios and filmmaker Amy Rice, the Untitled Michael Sam Project was to take an up-close look at the All-American defensive end and SEC...

Clearing the air from recent rumors about her parting ways with her sober coach Michael Cormier, Lindsay Lohan slamed RadarOnline for its false report Thursday (March 20).
The tabloid recently published a story about the “Mean Girls” star and how she fired Cormier immediately after she completed shooting her documentary series “Lindsay.”
A source supposedly told Radar, “As soon as the cameras were packed up, Lindsay gave Michael the pink slip, and he hasn’t heard from her since.”
The “insider” continued, “It was important for Lindsay to show the world while she was filming the reality for Own that she was sober. Having Michael there gave her a lot of credibility and support when she needed it.”
After catching wind of the rather dramatic gossip, the 27-year-old actress took to her Twitter and wrote, “Haven’t seen Michael since filming? Then who is this guy I Just saw 2 days ago?...

When looking at the Grand Theft Auto games it comes as no surprise that it all started in 1997 a top down 2D classic that caught attention for the level of violence it portrayed on gamers screens. Imagine that, 2D and caused controversy about violence. Now we are in 2013 and Grand Theft Auto V is released, arguably one of the best games of the year and the best Grand Theft Auto game by far. How does it manage this? It respects its past and pushes to the future in ways that only GTA could.
Grand Theft Auto V freshens things up straight away by giving the gamers control over three characters. Michael is the main character of the game as he has the strongest story arc, but Franklin and Trevor cannot be ignored. These characters touch on the aspects of Grand Theft Auto that people loved, it picks up the idea...

Of all the ways I had thought that Simon might return, his arrival in "Tipping Point" as the leader of the extraction team working for Strong never crossed my mind.
In my version of events, James was working for Simon and that would be the big reveal at the end of the episode: Simon living a life of luxury in Latin America and James bringing Michael to meet him. I've never been so happy to be wrong about a story plot in my whole life.
Actually, there were a lot of surprises that made me really satisfied. As wrong as it sounds, the top of that list was Michael winning the fight against Simon and assuring that Simon wouldn't hurt anyone again.
The scariest part of that fight was that something inside of me cheered when Michael slowly sank the knife into his chest. After all the pain and misery that Simon caused Michael,...

To mark the release of Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, Rob takes us through the high points of Alan Partridge's TV career...
Certain TV shows are watched so excessively that quoting them in general conversation has just became part of the norm. The Office, The Simpsons and Spaced are three such, but none have been stolen from with quite as much regularity as Norfolk’s favourite son, Alan Partridge. For better or for worse, Partridgisms have cemented their place in our everyday vernacular. The likes of, “cos I’m a bloody bloke”, “see the match?” and “scum, sub-human scum” are just a few of the phrases that AP (with a little help from his writers) has gifted to the world over the years.
He may be a socially awkward, insensitive, selfish, narcissist obsessed with his own celebrity status, but despite all this, it’s hard to not love Alan.

There was a point in the now seven-season run of Burn Notice that I thought it would be interesting if Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) actually found out what happened to get him stuck in Miami with no money, job, or answers. It was hard not to want the guy to find closure. Or at least it was, at first. But for the span of five seasons they jerked us around with another figure of questionable intent telling Michael the conspiracy was worse than he thought, that powerful forces were at play that he couldn't fathom. Well, in the sixth season, we finally get that closure, and at a great cost, but the supposed depth of the betrayal doesn't quite live up to the five-season-long hype. In fact, it seems almost ordinary and expected, but at least it sets up for a great seventh season and leaves a lasting emotional scar on Michael,...

Hold me closer, tiny Dundie: The Office‘s series finale is now just one day away (airing Thursday at 9/8c on NBC). But thankfully, my personal Dunder Mifflin-themed kudos-fest is just getting underway, with two more fun-filled posts to go.

One of the most well-known actresses of the past quarter-century, Winona Ryder pretty much just works when she wants to now. Becoming more of a character actress in top-tier projects like Black Swan, Ryder only ventures out in front of the camera when she really thinks it’s worth it.
Playing contract killer Richard Kuklinski’s masquerading wife Deborah opposite Michael Shannon in The Iceman (review here) was certainly enough reason for her to resurface.
Dread Central: So, do you think Deborah actually knew in real life, just based on the research you did?
Winona Ryder: I do. Well, there wasn’t actually much available that I was aware of, research on her. The research that was available was mainly in the interviews with him and the book so in order to find anything out, I’d have to get through hours of him talking about, like, shooting people in the face.
