Ed Sheeran revealed that he’s working on new music — but don’t expect to hear it anytime soon.
In a new interview with People, the singer-songwriter was asked if he could say anything about the music he was working on, to which he replied, “That I’m working on them and they’re new songs.”
He added: “But nothing’s going to come out this year,” he says. “I’m enjoying being on tour. I released two records on tour last year and it’s quite a lot being on tour and releasing records.

At the very moment Taylormania was hitting preposterous heights, threatening to turn the artist at its center into an untouchable icon, it turns out that the real Taylor Swift was spending her time between glittery three-hour concerts making some of her most fearless art. The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology is stuffed with the rawest, angriest, and most unguarded songs of Swift’s career – quite the opposite of the ingratiating, focus-grouped inoffensiveness that a skeptic might expect from an artist at her current level of visibility.

Just last summer, experts on the intersection of AI and music told Rolling Stone that it would be years before a tool emerged that could conjure up fully produced songs from a simple text description, given the endless complexities of the finished product. But Suno, a two-year-old start-up based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has already pulled it off, vocals included — and their latest model, v3, which is available to the general public as of today, is capable of some truly startling results.

Greg Kwedar’s Sing Sing debuted at TIFF in 2023 to much buzz and an acquisition from A24. In the months since, its star, Colman Domingo, has become an Oscar nominee, which only caused the hype to grow even stronger. It earns every bit of the praise it has gotten, as it is one of the best-directed and best-performed films in years.
Based on a true story told in an Esquire article, Sing Sing chronicles the lives of a group of inmates in the Sing Sing Correctional Facility who participate in a drama program as part of their rehabilitation process. Although a few of the beats in the movie are somewhat conventional, the film oozes such deep humanity that it is impossible not to fall in love with it and its subjects.
The most impressive thing about Sing Sing — of which there are many — is the level of empathy with which it approaches its characters.

Wu-Tang Clan’s debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), was more than an album — it was a universe unto itself. The album, which dropped Nov. 9, 1993, introduced the world to nine wildly talented rappers at once, along with the crackly genius of RZA’s soul-and-kung-fu-movie-inflected production and an entire cosmology of lyrical references. 30 years later, there’s still plenty to unpack, which we attempt to do on the latest episode of Rolling Stone Music Now.

A wacky film based on a stage show by comedians Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp, Dicks: The Musical – a riff on The Parent Trap with two adult men as the starring twins — opens in seven theaters in NY, LA and San Francisco on a crowded specialty weekend as theatrical releases of fall film festival titles accelerates.
Dicks, from A24, developed by Chernin Entertainment, is, according to press notes, a first “adult musical comedy” for both. (It’s Chernin’s second musical after hit The Greatest Showman.) Directed by Larry Charles, it stars the two creators Jackson and Sharp as self-obsessed businessmen who discover they’re long-lost identical twins and come together to plot the reunion of their eccentric divorced parents. They’re joined by an A-list roster of Nathan Lane, Megan Mullally, Bowen Yang and Megan Thee Stallion.

When writer-director Rebecca Miller was playing back her latest film “She Came to Me,” she felt it was missing a compelling song. The National’s singer-turned-composer Bryce Dessner was sitting next to her when the thought entered: Bruce Springsteen would be perfect.
Dessner was drawing inspiration from Marisa Tomei’s character Katrina, who he describes as “a muse and this gutsy character. She’s a miraculous, amazing and powerful woman. She just felt like she could be a character from a Springsteen song,” he says.
Miller, who used the Springsteen hit “Dancing in the Dark” in her 2015 film “Maggie’s Plan,” loved the idea of Springsteen writing the end credits song. “It was an absurd idea, but it just came to me,” Dessner tells Variety. “What would normally feel insurmountable to most people is not the thing that occurs to Rebecca first, but she said, ‘Oh, that’s interesting.'”

Stevens’ tenth solo album was self-produced and features contributions from The National guitarist Bryce Dessner, adrienne maree brown, Hannah Cohen, Mina Tindle, Megan Lui, and Nedelle Torrisi. Pop the cork and celebrate Haley Bennett in Widow Clicquot, a fast-paced and sexy biopic of the woman known as Madame “Veuve” Clicquot, or by her actual full name, Barbe Nicole Ponsardin-Clicquot, who triumphed over all odds to become the force that created and brought to the world the leading brand of champagne. The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.
Serving as a producer with her Cyrano director Joe Wright (along with Christina Weiss Lurie), and taking on the title role, Bennett anchors a plush and gorgeous period film set against the vineyards in France circa 1800, with a story that begins with Barbe Nicole at age 26, widowed by the sudden tragic death of her husband Francois Clicquot (Tom Sturridge) who, though manic and excitable, managed to build a dream of a vineyard and the creation of a new champagne and was joined by his wife and mother of their daughter in the quest.

“We are here to become human again.” This is the mantra of the Rehabilitation Through the Arts program, founded in Sing Sing Correctional Facility, a prison just north of New York City, and the subject of Greg Kwedar’s emotionally restorative new feature. While led by a stellar Colman Domingo with an equally great supporting turn from Paul Raci, the majority of Sing Sing‘s cast knows the program all too well, either as alumni or currently going through it. That authenticity in casting carries through every frame and every line, as if Kwedar has walked these halls and been in these rooms, an observer to the intimate conversations he’s scripted alongside Clint Bentley.

The National have returned with Laugh Track, a surprise new album that serves as “the second half of a double album” which began this past April with the band’s previous release, First Two Pages of Frankenstein. The last time Haley Bennett starred in a gloriously romantic period piece, it was Joe Wright’s daring musical re-imagining of “Cyrano de Bergerac,” 2021’s “Cyrano.” She’s back in lavish gowns and rapturously beautiful settings in “Widow Clicquot,” Thomas Napper’s ode to (in no particular order) champagne, doomed romance and girl power. If it’s neither as bold nor as swooning as “Cyrano,” it does provide additional evidence that Bennett slips easily into the 19th century as both an object of beauty and a force of nature.
The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it is one of a number of wildly varied films in which women claim power that had been denied to them in patriarchal societies. ‘Widow Clicquot’ Review: Haley Bennett in Champagne Biopic with More Personal Than Professional Fizz
Like the elixirs that Barbe-Nicole (Haley Bennett) so carefully tends to at her vineyard, Widow Clicquot takes time to come into its fullest potential. Initially, it appears a sticky-sweet tale of love, as manifested by its heroine’s determination to carry on the vision of her late husband François (Tom Sturridge). But it takes on added layers as Barbe-Nicole reveals the breadth of her ambition, and as her rosy recollections of her marriage give way to thornier ones — ultimately yielding a drama that feels more substantive than its 89-minute run time might suggest, if not quite rich enough to leave its own lasting legacy.

‘Sing Sing’ Review: Colman Domingo and a Cast of Ex-Criminals Demonstrate How Art Can Heal in Prison
Cages can’t contain the sheer amount of imagination on offer in “Sing Sing” — not just in the way director Greg Kwedar and his writing and producing partner Clint Bentley conceived of the prison-set drama, but also as an animating force among its characters. Apart from Colman Domingo and a few others, most of the cast are formerly incarcerated alumni of the Rehabilitation Through the Arts program, which stages theatrical productions at New York’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility. While inside the walls of a penitentiary, the amateur thespians are afforded the opportunity to step outside their worst offenses and simply inhabit another character for a change, someone who is likely to be more revealing of who they really are than their jail-issued fatigues will allow.
Drawing from their experience as volunteer teachers at correctional facilities, Kwedar and Bentley are conscious of the raw power of seeing these men transform...

The National’s Bryce Dessner has detailed his new soundtrack for the upcoming absurdist comedy She Came to Me starring Peter Dinklage. Out September 29th via Warner Classics and Unigram, the album features an original song from Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa called “Addicted to Romance.”
According to a press release, She Came to Me director Rebecca Miller said the soundtrack came from an “intimate process” of collaboration with Dessner, who boarded the film during its earliest stages. This was especially important since the album had to incorporate two on-screen operas from the movie. Conducted by André de Ridder, the score features contributions from French pianist Katia Labèque and vocals from Greer Grimsley, Alicia Hall Moran, Isabel Leonard, and Emmett O’Hanlon.
In a statement, Dessner described the film as “one of the most rewarding and creative experiences I have had” and said it allowed him to “make the music that I wanted to make,...

Vertical is shifting the theatrical release of Rebecca Miller’s romantic comedy “She Came to Me” by a week. The film, which stars Peter Dinklage, Anne Hathaway and Marisa Tomei, will open on Oct. 6 instead of Sept. 29, when it was originally slated to premiere. Vertical opted to change its release strategy after Apple decided to move the opening of Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” to later in the month. “She Came to Me” was granted an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA, which means that the cast will be able to do promotional activity around its release despite the fact that actors are on strike against major studios and streamers.
“In light of ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ release date shift, we jumped at the opportunity for the Oct. 6 date for ‘She Came to Me,'” Vertical Partner Peter Jarowey commented. “It is a competitively less crowded weekend which...

In the upcoming absurdist comedy She Came to Me, Peter Dinklage plays an opera composer named Steven Lauddem who’s stricken with a serious case of writer’s block. After being encouraged by his wife (Anne Hathaway) to find inspiration in a stranger, Dinklage’s character gets involved in a tryst with a tugboat captain (Marisa Tomei), and all hell breaks loose. Watch the trailer below.
As it turns out, meeting Tomei’s Katrina was exactly what Dinklage needed, and he proceeds to create a hit opera about a “demented tugboat captain who lures men to her tugboat,” as one patron puts it. Of course, Tomei’s character is delighted to find out she was his muse, and won’t leave Dinklage alone despite his protestations.
“My imagination came up with the story,” he says. “My talent wrote the music. I mean, you don’t kill men and eat them,...

Rebecca Miller’s family ties to the stage are now part of her onscreen inspiration.
The writer-director, whose father is playwright Arthur Miller, takes on the world of opera with her latest dramedy, “She Came to Me.” Peter Dinklage stars as opera composer Steven Lauddem, whose marriage to Patricia (Anne Hathaway) is one of the many stagnant aspects of his life. As Steven looks for creative inspiration, he finds a spark with a tugboat captain (Marisa Tomei) and a love triangle ensues. Hathaway’s character meanwhile is an Ocd-addled therapist with aspirations of becoming a nun.
Miller enlisted composer Daniel Felsenfeld and Metropolitan Opera general manager Peter Gelb to consult on the film for an authentic peek into the world of composers and opera. Lead actress Hathaway additionally produces the film, rounding out her slew of new releases this year with “Eileen” and “Mothers’ Instinct,” while currently in production on A24’s “Mother Mary.

The National have been so good at producing National songs for so long that it’s been easy to take them for granted. Whenever the Brooklyn indie-rock institution passed a career point at which a lesser band might start breaking down — albums five, six, seven — they just got stronger, releasing some of their best work well into their second decade. In hindsight, this longevity seems obvious. The hallmarks of a National song — wry, affective lyrics; earthquake-proof song structures; painterly arrangements — seem tailor-built to sound more graceful with age.

When Rolling Stone broke the news back in January that Boygenius — Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker — had reunited and made their first full-length album, it felt like the first time in ages that young music fans were truly excited about a band. The album in question, The Record, more than lives up to expectations, with Rolling Stone‘s Rob Sheffield giving it an “instant classic” rating.

Florence Pugh has released her first music as a singer-songwriter – the songs “I Hate Myself” and “The Best Part”.
The tracks are included on the soundtrack to her new film A Good Person, a drama written and directed by her ex-partner, Zach Braff.
“I wrote these songs for my character Allison in the movie to perform, but also as a way to process and digest her mindset and her low headspace,” Pugh explained, per Total Entertainment.
“It was unbelievably helpful and hard; I wanted a song to reflect the self-hatred she had for herself in a way that the audience can truly understand.”
“The Best Part” is an ambient release featuring apologies for a “weak heart”
On “I Hate Myself”, against a mournful piano tune, Pugh sings: “And I want days of pain/ Oh, to feel the things I need/ To pay off this shame/ And I know that makes...

The much-documented and discussed real-life romantic relationship between Zach Braff and Florence Pugh may not have lasted, but the writer-director has provided the actress a sterling opportunity to showcase her talents with his latest directorial effort. Pugh delivers a superb starring performance that serves to accentuate her growing artistic stature and co-star Morgan Freeman turns in his best work in years after appearing in far too many sub-par vehicles. Their efforts lift A Good Person, which otherwise too often feels familiar in its themes and self-conscious in its melodramatic plot contrivances.

The National appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday, where they gave a rousing performance of their new single “Tropic Morning News.” Watch a replay below.
“Tropic Morning News” — a former Consequence Song of the Week — has a bit of a melancholy air in its official recording, but The National brought palpable excitement to their Fallon performance. Live percussion, trumpet, and a guitar solo split between brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner uplift Matt Berninger’s wordy lyrics, which are, appropriately, all about stumbling through conversations and not feeling comfortable in your own skin.
