‘Good Trouble’ Co-Creator Breaks Down the Series’ Emotional Farewell
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from “What Now?,” the series finale of “Good Trouble,” now streaming on Hulu.
“Good Trouble,” which aired its series finale on Freeform Tuesday, has been a flagship show for the channel’s Gen-z and liberal-leaning audience since it premiered in 2018. The drama was a spinoff from “The Fosters,” a groundbreaking, foundational show for ABC Family, Freeform’s previous name before it rebranded with a heavier focus on programming for politically active 20somethings. “Good Trouble” centered on “The Fosters” characters Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) as they moved into a communal loft space called The Coterie in downtown Los Angeles, and began their post-grad adult lives.
Yes, the show revolved around Callie and Mariana’s personal and fledgling professional lives, but it also tackled real-life issues that affected them and their housemates. In the first season,...

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the Season 5 premiere of Freeform’s Good Trouble.
Maia Mitchell has returned to The Coterie — but not under happy circumstances. The Season 5 premiere of Good Trouble ends with Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Callie reuniting in their old shared bedroom at the co-living space after Mariana spent the night at the hospital with her former flame (and boss) Evan Speck.
The episode picked up right where Season 4 left off, with Mariana trying to escape from a cult while saving Joaquin’s sister, Jenna. Joaquin (Bryan Craig) was tipped off that Mariana was missing by a concerned Evan (T.J. Linnard), who tags along to rescue the women. In the opening minutes of the episode, someone fires a gun in an attempt to stop the group from escaping, and the bullet hits Evan in the chest.
They rush him to the hospital, where Mariana spends the night with him.

Note: The following discusses spoilers for “Good Trouble” Season 5 Episode 1.
The “Good Trouble” Season 5 premiere picks up right after the dramatic cliffhanger from last season, when a bullet collided with an unknown victim as Mariana (Cierra Ramirez), Joaquin (Bryan Craig) and Jenna (Maiara Walsh) attempt to escape a strange farming community that Joaquin believes has been holding his sister against her will.
In an unexpected turn of events, the Freeform series revealed that Mariana’s on-again-off-again boyfriend Evan (T.J. Linnard) was the victim of the shooting, after he’d joined Joaquin’s trip to the farm out of concern for her. Now his life hangs in the balance and Mariana’s been given the reins of his company while he recovers.
Ramirez teased that the twist leaves Mariana reeling with survivor’s guilt.
“She’s always had a soft spot for Evan, and for it to be him, or to be anyone,...

It's time to face the music in Good Trouble season three. The Freeform drama and Fosters spinoff returns in less than a month and E! News has an exclusive first look at the new trailer. As usual, there's a lot going on. Season two of Good Trouble ended with a lot of relationships in the balance and the trailer gives some hints about what's to come, good and bad. Callie (Maia Mitchell) chose her morals and the Legal Aid tenants over her boyfriend Jamie (Beau Mirchoff), and in the trailer she tells Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) "it's over." Mariana, having just hooked up with Evan (T.J. Linnard) after learning that her boyfriend Raj (Dhruv Uday Singh) might have slept...

Justified, Season 5, Episode 7: “Raw Deal”
Written by VJ Boyd
Directed by Bill Johnson
Airs Tuesdays at 10pm Et on FX -
Why does it feel like so little happens in “Raw Deal”? A relatively major character bites the dust, Boyd’s Mexican adventure appears to be imperiled nice and early, Ava makes a play at being a state-pen kingpin in order to keep her dignity, and Raylan might very well be headed to work in a totally different Marshals office. That’s very far from nothing, but “Raw Deal” still feels curiously free of friction, a resource Justified does not usually lack for.
-
Part of the problem is the kinda-sorta-a-plot, a weirdly insubstantial trifle in which Raylan tracks down a hacker named T.C. (played by T.J. Linnard, who also plays C.J. on Looking — got all that?) who swindles his way into a $250K payday by passing...

At first, "Looking in the Mirror" appears as though it's meant to focus on Dom's 40th birthday and subsequent party in Dolores Park, but the most compelling moments again center on Patrick (Jonathan Groff) and Richie (Raúl Castillo). The series has not been afraid to bluntly depict those uncomfortable moments when ethnicity and social class clash and, sadly, nothing that occurs during this half hour is out of the norm for the Gay community. There are two moments in particular that are clearly painful for Richie. First, Patrick introduces him to his boss Kevin (Russell Tovey) and Kevin's boyfriend Jon (Joseph Williamson) noting he cuts hair. Kevin seems surprised that's all he would do which prompts Patrick to add Richie eventually wants to get his own place (business). Richie is stunned because he's clearly never said that to Patrick. Granted, Patrick was put off guard having just discovered Jon has...

Nuditayyyyy! Okay, I can’t begin to tell you the exact increment by which my Sunday night is improved when my premium cable show du jour teases me with an Ma/N/L/V rating, but it’s probably somewhere between winning the lottery and discovering that the sperm I donated back in college has resulted in my having over 400 children who can now support me in old age. Except when that all-important N is a complete misdirect. More on that later. It’s time to get Looking!
Patrick (Jonathan Groff) doesn’t like Kevin‘s (Russell Tovey) new game (and no, that’s not a metaphor, except for when it is) – and Kevin can tell from the look on his face. Patrick counters, “this is my normal everyday face.” Spoken like a true sociopath! I can’t get a good read on what this new game is all about,...

As "Looking" nears its Sunday (Jan. 19) premiere on HBO, the series, which follows a group of gay friends as they navigate life in San Francisco, has garnered plenty of comparisons to that other HBO series about a group of friends in an iconic city: "Girls."
"I think the cool thing about the comparisons to 'Girls' or 'Queer as Folk' or 'Sex and the City' is that there's maybe an audience crossover. If you liked those shows, chances are you might like our show," Jonathan Groff, who stars as Patrick, tells Zap2it at "Looking's" Los Angeles premiere. "But the writing and tone and style are very different, and I think once people see the show and they start to see a couple of episodes and get, sort of, what we're trying to express, they'll understand it's sort of a whole thing unto itself."
"I think people need something to relate it to,...
