Rizzoli and Isles haven't solved a new case on TV in nearly six years.
While Tess Gerritsen continues to write new novels on the beloved duo, we've been left with a significant gap in our lives as their lives go on without us bearing witness on-screen.
The iconic duo of Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander were TV staples for over 100 episodes, but what are they (and the rest of the cast) doing now?
In Memorium: Lee Thompson Young -- Detective Barry Frost
Lee Thompson Young, who played Detective Frost (one of Jane Rizzoli's closest co-workers), tragically passed away in 2013 before the filming of Season Five.
Detective Frost's death got handled beautifully by the writers, from his death in Rizzoli and Isles Season 5 Episode 1 to Jane seeing a vision of him in Rizzoli and Isles Season 5 Episode 18.
The episodes throughout Season Five left us crying, laughing, and missing Lee Thompson Young's presence on our screens.

Not the most imaginative of titles but that hasn’t stopped me watching many a movie and in particular a horror movie… So I was hoping Island Zero: Sea No Evil would be better than its title suggests.
Unsurprisingly Island Zero is set on a remote island. One in which a solitary ferry is the only route on and off of it. So when that ferry fails to turn up for several days in a row, the residents start to worry. And they soon worry even more when they realise something is killing them off.
Despite an opening scene that involves death and blood, this is much more of a slow burn of a horror movie.

Reminiscent of the isolated chills and thrills of Stephen King's short story "Home Delivery", the new horror thriller Island Zero (written by Rizzoli & Isles author Tess Gerritsen and directed by Josh Gerritsen) follows a fishing community suddenly cut off from the rest of the world... not counting the bodies that wash ashore. "Oooooh, end of the world!" Freestyle Digital Media has released a short, new official trailer, running only 30-seconds, for a dark comedy, horror thriller titled Island Zero, from director Josh Gerritsen and writer Tess Gerritsen ("Rizzoli & Isles"). The premise for this film sounds pretty cool, I just hope it's better than it looks. A fishing community on a remote Maine island finds itself suddenly cut off from the rest of the world after the ferry stops coming. When people start to vanish, the terrified survivors realize that someone - or something - is hunting them. Island Zero stars Laila Robins, Adam Wade McLaughlin, Teri Reeves, and Matthew Wilkas. This seems like it could be fun, with some bloody twists and amusing horror moments, but I'm not entirely sure based on this 30 seconds of footage. Maybe it's not bad? Give it a look. Here's the new official trailer (+ poster) for Josh Gerritsen's Island Zero,...

Quirky cases are a hit or miss proposition. Sometimes they are interesting, other times silly.
Rizzoli & Isles Season 7 Episode 6 looked like it was going to be ridiculous from the previews, but turned out to be much better than expected.
The case of the hour involved the murder of a cancer patient in what looked like an abandoned hospital. In actuality, it turned out to be a new wing that was still being worked on.
The suggestion that it was a ghost who killed her was silly, but it turned out to be an interesting clue.
Multiple murders, a ghost killer... sounds like something I would have heard about.

Author Tess Gerritsen is having trouble getting the court to acknowledge her claim that 2013's Gravity owes a lot, if not everything, to her 1999 book of the same name. Gerritsen sued Warner Bros. last year because she wanted to prove that there was a breach in her initial contract and that the studio owed her a "based upon" credit, as well as a large chunk of money for the film. Unfortunately, the writer has since come up short twice in court. In a blog post Monday, Gerritsen explained she was told she hasn't made a viable breach-of-contract claim because Warner Bros. is not responsible for New Line's contractual obligations to her. (She had a 1999 contract with New Line before Warner Bros. acquired the mini-studio in 2008.) The judge dismissed Gerritsen’s suit because, according to Variety, the author's complaint did not "allege plausible claims against WB on successor-in-interest, alter...

Like one of the characters from the books that the TNT series is based on, Rizzoli & Isles author Tess Gerritsen won't give up the fight. Gerritsen filed an amended complaint in the matter earlier this week, as she said she would. Having failed the first time, best-selling author Tess Gerritsen has lodged an amended complaint against Warner Bros. for allegedly breaching the terms of a 1999 deal by failing to pay her back-end profits on Gravity. On Jan. 30, a California judge dismissed the first complaint but not because Gerritsen had failed to show how the Alfonso Cuaron blockbuster had derived from her book. The judge never reached that issue. Instead, the lawsuit was grounded because Gerritsen's deal was with a company called Katja, not Warner Bros. At the time of her deal, Katja was owned by New Line Productions,

This post contains spoilers for the film Gravity.
Here's something we didn't know about. Best-selling author Tess Gerritsen had filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros, over the film Gravity.
She filed the case last year, alleging that Alfonso Cuaron's Oscar-winner smash hit was based on her book. Which also happens to be called Gravity.
In a blog post on her website. Gerritsen reveals that she sold the film rights to Gravity (her book) to New Line Productions in 1999. In her words, "The book is about a female medical doctor/astronaut who is stranded aboard the International Space Station after the rest of her crew is killed in a series of accidents. A biological hazard aboard Iss traps her in quarantine, unable to return to earth. While my film was in development, I re-wrote the third...

Last February, author Tess Gerritsen received information that would, over the course of a year, fuel a monumental legal action against Warner Bros and New Line Cinema. That battle pertained to the record breaking, crowd pleasing, Academy Award-winning film Gravity - which, as it happens, shared its title and bits of space terror with a novel that existed over a decade before the film's genesis. A year after the fact, a decision has been made about Gerritsen's lawsuit. That decision has prompted the author to reveal that information, which has highlighted why this suit is probably one of the most important in Hollywood's history. Gerritsen took to her blog to comment on the recent decision made by U.S. District Judge Margret Morrow to throw out the $10 million lawsuit that claimed Warner Bros. and Alfonso Cuaron made a film that bares more than a coincidental resemblance to her 2000 New York...

The author of novel Gravity has had a lawsuit she served against Warner Brothers thrown out.
In a case Tess Gerritsen filed last year, she claimed Gravity was derived from her novel and thus the film company owed her at least $10 million in damages, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Gerritsen claimed that after the film rights to her book were sold to Katja Motion Picture Corporation and its parent company New Line Productions in 1999, she wrote and submitted additional material for the project.
This included, "scenes of satellite debris colliding with the International Space Station, the total destruction of Iss, and the surviving female astronaut left adrift in her space suit, alone and untethered".

A judge has just grounded Tess Gerritsen's lawsuit that Warner Bros. breached the terms of a 1999 deal by coming out with its blockbuster film Gravity, calling the allegations "entirely speculative." In 1999, Gerritsen wrote a book titled Gravity and sold film rights to Katja, a company owned by New Line, now a subsidiary of Warner Bros., for $1 million plus a $500,000 production bonus and 2.5 percent of defined net proceeds if the movie was ever made. An author of a sci-fi novel called "Gravity" is suing filmmakers behind the Oscar-winning movie of the same name, claiming that she's owed royalties from the blockbuster's profits.

Los Angeles (AP) — Author Tess Gerritsen has sued Warner Bros. claiming the studio owes her millions in profits from the Oscar-winning hit film "Gravity." But the studio is pointing to her own statements downplaying similarities between the blockbuster and one of her novels. Gerritsen sued Warner Bros. Gerritsen, whose books include a series that is basis for the TNT show "Rizzoli & Isles," sold the film rights to the "Gravity" novel for $1 million in 1999. Warner Bros. declined comment on the case, but spokesman Paul McGuire noted that in October Gerritsen told an audience at an Indiana public library that the film wasn't based on her book. Bestselling author Tess Gerritsen is suing Warner Bros. for $10 million for breach of contract, claiming the studio ripped the story for Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity from her 1999 novel, also titled Gravity.
In 1999, Gerritsen — perhaps best known for a series of crime novels that inspired TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles – sold the film rights to Gravity to Katja Motion Picture Corporation and its parent company, New Line Productions, for $1 million. According to a breach of contract complaint filed in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Gerritsen was entitled to a $500,000 production bonus and 2.5 percent of 100 percent of the net proceeds if the film was made.

Lawsuits between screenwriters and the studios that "rob" them are no surprise. When a movie hits it big, there.s bound to be a couple of lawsuits trying to cash in on something that sounds similar enough to stick, but different enough to not have a chance. However, Warner Brothers is now starting to be named in what might be one of the most ridiculous lawsuits ever, and it.s at the hands of a best-selling author with a long held ambition to see her work on the big screen. The New York Times pushed a story about a lawsuit being launched by author Tess Gerritsen, who is better known for her hit book/TV series Rizzoli and Isles. (Coincidentally, Warner Horizon Television is the studio that produces said television show.) Her lawsuit is focused on what she.s not very well known for, which is a 1999 novel she published...

Author Tess Gerritsen — whose book Rizzoli & Isles inspired the TNT drama — filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. today, claiming that the film Gravity was based partly on one of her books and that the studio owes her 2.5 percent of the film's profit as compensation. According to the New York Times, the studio's New Line unit and a subsidiary bought the film rights to her novel Gravity in 1999. Therefore, Gerritsen isn't suing Warner for copyright infringement (a much more common scenario); rather, she is claiming that there was a breach of contract, in that the studio failed to release the film with a "based upon" credit as had been agreed upon, thus denying her millions of dollars.According to her lawyer Glen L. Kulik, she had initially shrugged off the similarities as coincidence, but later came to believe that Alfonso Cuarón based his screenplay on her book. In a blog post...

First she said that the movie had nothing to do with her book, but today Tess Gerritsen is suing Warner Bros over the Alfonso Cuaron-directed Gravity. In a breach of contract complaint filed in federal court in La, the prolific author upon whose books TNT‘s flagship drama series Rizzoli & Isles is based now says she wants millions from the Oscar-winning movie. Gerritsen alleges that she is owed a “based upon” credit, a $500,000 production bonus and a 2.5% of the net proceeds from any film derived from her 1999 novel Gravity, which New Line optioned the year it came out. Being that the Sandra Bullock and George Clooney starrer has made more than $716 million worldwide since its October 4 release, Gerritsen could be aiming for some big bucks if her lawyer ever gets the real final figures from WB accounting. And the fact is her Gravity does share some details with the...

Updated: It’s never good news when the creator/showrunner of a successful series exits. That has happened on TNT’s flagship drama Rizzoli & Isles, with Janet Tamaro, who developed the series based on the novels by Tess Gerritsen and served as executive producer/showrunner on the first four seasons. The departure of Tamaro, who will remain as a consultant while developing new projects, comes less than a month after production on Rizzoli & Isles was shut down and the show’s writers had to regroup following the sudden passing of co-star Lee Thompson Young. It also comes just as production wrapped on Season 4. (The death of Young, who committed suicide during the filming of the second to last episode, will be addressed at the beginning of Season 5.) It follows persistent talk about discord on the Rizzoli & Isles set and speculation that Tamaro may depart. “This is what we all dream of getting to do,...

Our favorite female crime-stopping duo, detective Jane Rizzoli and Dr. Maura Isles, are back on TV-dvd. Based on book series by Tess Gerritsen, Rizzoli and Isles will charm you from start to finish in this third installment of the show with all 15 previously aired episodes included, plus bonus features. Angie Harmon plays Jane Rizzoli and Sasha Alexander plays Maura Isles, and it is a great character match-up because these two really seem like sisters. They work together, Jane as the detective and Maura as the medical examiner, but the chemistry between the two is incredible. Someone's coming out on Rizzoli & Isles tonight! That's what Tess Gerritsen, author of the Rizzoli and Isles mystery novel series tells us, and she's the one who started it all. While spoilers indicate it isn't Jane or Maura (sorry!), we spoke with Tess about the subculture that has developed around the show, aka its strong lesbian fanbase.
"When I first began writing the Rizzoli and Isles mystery series, there was no discussion of Jane and Maura being lesbians," Gerritsen said. "They were strong women showing how women could get the job done in a traditionally male profession."
"During the first season of the show, when the speculation on AfterEllen and other sites first started, I genuinely had never seen their friendship in that way," Gerritsen said. "However, everyone sees things from their own perspective. After people started suggesting the lesbian undertones, my perspective changed.
