Cannibal Corpse frontman George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher had already shot down the possibility of an encore, playfully roasting the crowd in the process. But still, you knew what was coming. As a rule, the band — one of the biggest and most beloved in death metal — will not leave a stage without playing its signature anthem, “Hammer Smashed Face.” And at New York’s PlayStation Theater on Thursday, they did not disappoint.
The band expertly bashed through the 1992 song, whose thudding stop-time intro and seething speed bursts — not to mention Cannibal Corpse...

Slayer will return to North America for another leg of their ongoing Final Tour this spring. The band will spend March in Asia and most of the summer in Europe; it plans to announce more tour dates in the future. Lamb of God, Amon Amarth and Cannibal Corpse will support the 16 new dates.
A few months ago, guitarist Kerry King released a statement saying that the tour would run into next year. “We’ve been blown away by the response we’ve been getting here in North America,” he said.

Iron Fist has finally been released, and if I can get away with it today I will attempt to give Spoiler-free'ish updates throughout the day! I have been waiting for this for awhile, and while we have seen nothing but negative reviews, it is up to us, the readers, for the final decision!
Episode 01 + 02
The first episode has a very "Bruce Wayne returns" type of feel to it, as Danny Rand shows back up after being missing and presumed dead for most of his life, after training in a mystical place that "can't be reached from here." The Meachums kids have taken over the company after their father's death from cancer, but it should actually be Danny's company. Rand does not seem to want money, just some answers. He attempts to go to a Dojo to train, which doesn't work as planned. At the end we get a surprise as someone is still alive.

USA Networks is another of those stations I have had bias against mainly due to my loyalty to HBO in the late '90s and early '00s, but once Mr. Robot hit and I realized how genius of a show it is (even though the creator may be from a different planet), I have been waiting for another solid hit from USA, and we may finally have one.
USA has set some very strong actors to portray characters in its upcoming Unsolved TV series, which will inspect and delve into the surrounding mystery behind rappers Tupac Shakur's and Biggie Smalls' untimely deaths. Check this extraordinary cast out: Bokeem Woodbine, Josh Duhamel, and Jimmi Simpson will all be playing integral detectives that were involved in trying to deduce the surroundings of the murders of these two legendary music figures.

There’s never a dull moment when he’s around and last night (June 1) Ed Sheeran paid a visit to Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.
The “Don’t” crooner was in the house for an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” and of course he brought his guitar for a very silly sketch.
Fallon began, “I’m Steve Joshua. Do you enjoy the morbid and disturbing themes of heavy metal music, but wish that it had a more cheerful, pleasant sound? Well wish no more because you are going to love this brand new album- Ed Sheeran Sings Heavy Metal.”
Fallon continued, “That’s right- pop music’s cherub-faced troubadour sings 25 of the darkest, most skull-crushing songs ever written. Songs like ‘Angel of Death’ by Slayer, ‘Hammer-Smashed Face’ by Cannibal Corpse, and this heavy metal classic by Iron Maiden, “Run To The Hills.’” Check the clip!

When you walk into a movie titled Deathgasm, there’s an instant expectation of horrific lunacy. By purchasing a ticket, you’re begging for a literal orgasm of death set to the tune of metallic shredding that would make Satan himself piss his pants, and that’s something first-time-feature director Jason Lei Howden delivers in droves.
Once the film kicks in, with a frantic opening credits montage that’s comprised of devilish scribblings and face-melting guitar riffs, your hair will spike up and an excited chill will shoot down your spine as one thing becomes immediately apparent – Deathgasm is the real deal. Straight from the bowels of hell comes a metalhead’s wet dream, scored by some of the thrashiest New Zealand and international metal icons around. F*ck thumbs, this film gets two metal horns way, Way up.

It's easy to forget that, two decades ago, Jim Carrey was just a talented TV sketch comedian who'd been trying for a decade to break into films. (Remember his roles in "Peggy Sue Got Married," "The Dead Pool," or "Earth Girls Are Easy"? Didn't think so.) But then came "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" (released 20 years ago this week, on February 4, 1994), in which Carrey starred as a hyperactive sleuth tasked with finding the Miami Dolphins' kidnapped mascot, and suddenly, he was an A-list box office draw.
Critics didn't think much of the puerile Ace, whose favorite gag was talking through his butt cheeks. But audiences loved him, enough to make Carrey an overnight star after 10 years of trying, and enough to put the film on permanent rotation on basic cable for the next 20 years.
Still, as many times as you've seen "Ace Ventura," there's probably a lot you don't know about...

We're always game for a new helping of horror metal from Oakland, CA “splatter thrash” unit Ghoul, who recently graced us with an awesome cover of Gwar's classic track “Americanized” on the compilation Intermediate Level Hard-Core. We're still hanging on for a full-length sequel to their awesome record Transmission Zero, but in the meantime they've thrown us another gore-drenched bone, joining forces with satirical stoner-metallers Cannabis Corpse for the tasty 12” split album Splatterhash. Thematically, it's exactly what the title implies: a short, controlled burst of gory horror thrash and weed-metal insanity. What better way to kick off the new year in music? Oddly enough, the Gwar connection continues in Splatterhash, being the first Cannabis Corpse recording to feature lead guitarist Brent Purgason – whom you may already know as Pustulus Maximus, who assumed Gwar's lead axe role from the late, great Cory Smoot (a.k.a. Flattus Maximus) last year, and...

Based out of the Czech Republic, the late Helena Zmatlikova was a well-known illustrator of children's books, her work printed on the covers of books published all over the world. I'm not sure she'd be too happy about it, but another artist has just taken her innocent drawings and put a sinister spin on them, turning the art into covers for faux children's books named after popular Black/Death Metal album titles, from bands like Cannibal Corpse and Satyricon. Hopefully Ms. Zmatlikova's got a good sense of humor, because the mash-up is a pretty awesome one!
The mock-ups were created by a member of the metal band Umbrtka, who also writes for Czech Maxim, and you can see a collection of his handiwork below. You've never been read a children's book like these ones before, of that I can be pretty sure of!

Adult Swim's splattery, head-banging animated comedy series Metalocalypse closed its fourth season with a cliffhanger... but the story will pick up in truly epic fashion this month with the historic special Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem A Klok Opera. The show will also include guest performances by Jack Black, Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell, and George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher of the band Cannibal Corpse. “This is not like anything we've ever done,” Small announced. “I drew from all of my influences to make this the most unique project I could dream of.” “I had a blast helping Brendon...

We all know, of course, what happened on April 15, 2013, in Boston, Massachusetts; as thousands of people ran a famous marathon through one of America's oldest and most historic cities, multiple explosions went off near the finish line. Many were killed or injured, and fundraisers have sprung up across the globe to help the community and the victims and their families. And one of the philanthropists lending a hand is one of horror's most beloved figures.
Adam Green, the director of Spiral and Frozen and the mastermind behind the popular slasher films in the Hatchet series, was born and raised in the Boston area in a small picturesque town called Holliston. Green, currently working on his own FearNet original sitcom, Holliston, and the upcoming Chris Columbus (of Goonies fame) film Killer Pizza, opted to plan a three-night fundraising extravaganza in his hometown area.
Green began posting details on his social media as details became available.

What can I say about the cannibal subgenre that stormed Euro cinema during the 70′s and 80′s? I love ‘em. I love ‘em when they’re good. I love them when they are not so good. I love them when they are an excuse to put naked women on the screen and cover them in Crayola paint (or reasonable knock off). There are very few that I dislike and most of the ones I dislike came about toward the end of the late 80′s as knock-offs of the best knock-offs that the subgenre ever produced. I’m looking at you Green Inferno (not the soon to be released Eli Roth homage picture either). Today we’re here to discuss Cannibal Terror, a Euro-Cine picture distributed by Severin Films and full of exploitation gold. Hope you brought your appetites because 1980x is going to the jungle, hungry, horny and ready to...

The genre of death metal continues to evolve and grow, exploding with creativity, skill and some of music’s most creative and gifted musicians, even though they will never truly be recognized in the mainstream. In 2013, the boundaries of death metal have been shattered with sub genres and styles that would have been unthinkable in the genre’s formative years in the late 80s and early 90s. However, the pendulum also swings back to its roots- case an point the current Finnish and Swedish death metal revival. And as you listen to many of the so called retro death metal bands out now, it’s clear that many of them are influenced by one band- Immolation.
There are but a handful of ‘legends’ in American death metal. Bands so consistent influential and revered that they will always be regarded and lauded regardless of which way the death metal pendulum is swinging; Cannibal Corpse,...

Musicians have a certain luxury when it comes to films in that they can apparently just show up in them whenever the hell they want. We think it’s cute (and it is) to watch Keith Richards don a pirate face and go staggering around with Johnny Depp so long as we don’t expect him to do much more than that. But in the wake of recent news concerning a particular interruption at a certain Dropkick Murphys show, it might be fun to explore musicians who were both made to seriously work for their cameo roles and to endure some bizarre disruptions. Here are eight of ‘em. 8. Cannibal Corpse – Interrupted By Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura It’s a deleted scene, so unless you’re hungover watching the TV version you probably missed it. That said, it’s kind of the best part of the film. Cannibal Corpse is one of those bands that you hope...

It hasn't even been a year since Florida “death-n-roll” metallers rolled out their excellently blood-drenched ninth studio album Undead, one of the strongest offerings in their grisly career (find out why in our review). But in kind of a ballsy move, they've already dropped a follow-up record. Unborn's release comes after yet another round of lineup changes: while vocalist Chris Barnes (former frontman for another iconic horror-themed metal band, Cannibal Corpse) and lead guitarist Steve Swanson remain core members, Undead featured guitarist Rob Arnold and bassist Matt Devries (both formerly of Chimaira) and drummer Kevin Talley as new Sfu members, but they left after that album was recorded; Unborn features Ola Englund on guitars and Jeff Hughell on bass, along with guest contributions from the likes of Whitechapel's Ben Savage. There, now you're all caught up on the personnel changes; now on to the sounds they've summoned for this record,...

It's a dilemma all music lovers face: narrowing down a list of your all-time favorite albums. Even restricting myself to just the past year, it's quite a challenge... mainly because it's been a damn fine year for dark, spooky and horror-related music. Not only have some well-known bands rediscovered their mojo or improved on an already strong track record, but I've also discovered dozens of new artists who rock the darker, more obscure corners of the music biz, and many of them belong on this list right alongside their more high-profile peers. I'm also pretty sure you'll be hearing a lot more from them in 2013 and beyond. Bear in mind a couple of things before diving in: this list is alphabetical, and not necessarily in order of preference (because I always have a shit time trying to settle on my favorite anything); and this list is confined to horror-related or darker-themed music,...

We've been deep in the world of extreme metal this spring, with new releases from death metal pioneers Cannibal Corpse, extreme groove-meisters Six Feet Under, gore-grind legends Cattle Decapitation and more. Today we're gonna dig down to the black heart of the genre and check out a powerful new record from long-standing Swedish band Unleashed, whose tales of dark forces and ancient gods are on par with any of their Scandinavian peers – but where most of those other bands have diversified their sound over the decades, this mighty unit continues to embrace the style of early '90s death and black metal to spin their epic tales of apocalyptic battles and mythical creatures. I think Unleashed deserve far more widespread...

At Texas Frightmare Weekend I came across Grave Tone Productions' booth and had a chat with main man Brian Davis. Grave Tone's horror and metal music combination intrigued me. I learned Davis and his partner in mayhem have a lot of irons in the fire, and we discussed them all.
Mr. Dark: Who the hell are you, and what do you do?
Brian Davis: My name is Brian Davis. I am the primary composer, arranger and drummer for Grave Tone Productions. We make music for the haunt/horror industry.
MD: Grave Tone Productions got started doing custom horror music. How did you get into that business?
Bd: We built a database of haunted attractions and started sending out postcards and some demo CD's to them to try to spread our hybrid sound of traditional horror scores and aggressive music. From there we got involved doing film scores through some...

I've lived in the extreme-music trenches for most of my life, but there are still occasions when a band will make me stop and shudder. Death metal offers quite a few of those moments, but over the years it's become so fragmented, it's now more a loose subset and harder to define. Still, there are iconic bands whose names always spring to mind, and for me, Florida unit Six Feet Under is one of them. While death metal purists consider them more of a splinter group, the band's foundation of ultra-violent horror lyrics, "death-n-roll" groove riffs and cave-troll roars has made them as memorable as many of the bands who first defined the genre – including Death, Cannibal Corpse and Obituary, whose alumni rank...

One of the best albums to be released in 2010 was Anathema’s We’re Here Because We’re Here. Fact. What’s that? No, it wasn’t? You’ve obviously never listened to it then. Here we go.
The album was on a many album of the year list and it was no surprise, really. The textured layers of musical arrangements; delicately glorious and invoking vocals which twisted, turned, touched and soared; the impending doom-esque, apocalyptic yet undeniably beautiful connotations of each track’s layout and content; and the complete musicianship of the album, which left it feeling as a gigantic, empowering, towering body of work resulted in the album hitting hard with anybody who took a listen; be it fellow musicians, critics, or even just music fans who took the time to...

It’s Game Of Thrones Season 2, Episode 3 entitled “What Is Dead May Never Die,” the rallying cry of Theon’s nautical hometown of Pyke and the White Walkers who are suing them for the rights. Either way, I’m pretty sure they both stole it from a Cannibal Corpse song. The episode opens where the last one left off, with the nosy Jon Snow being knocked out by Craster, who then tells the Wall Commander he wants all their men to leave immediately, and keeps derogatorily calling Snow “Bastard” with no regard for the fact that he’s f***ing his own daughters and feeding half the kids to zombies (“But your Mom and Dad weren’t Married! Ewwwww!!!!!”) Jon pulls his commander aside to tell him the BadBabyNews.org, but his commander is already aware, and explains that fraternizing with “harsh men” like Craster is a tough but necessary...

We all watched as “so so” died this past season and the zombies did that thing they did and the folks of the Walking Dead stayed on the farm… for… ever… What did you think of the Walking Dead Season 2? The Internet is absolutely exploding with everything from Siskel and Ebert level criticism to whiny social networkers trying to play Hollywood directors to the folks who might as well be the tattle talers in grade school for the rest of their natural born lives (Those are the spoiler posters). Well there’s only one opinion (really three separate opinions fused to form one) you need to listen to if you want to get eaten alive by the Walking Dead all over again. Jeff Konopka, Shawn Savage and Ted Brown dish on the brains you love to eat.

Yeah, we’re cheating on our beloved decade of decadence. The Sleeper is not a movie from the 1980′s, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t have the look, feel, soundtrack, costumes design and dialogue down pat. It even comes as a special edition red VHS tape with big box packaging equipped with all the subtle nuisances of the video store rental experience (more on that later). It Came From 1980 X does not discriminate against films of any generation as long as they embody the spirit of hyper color and slap like a bracelet.
Synopsis:
It’s 1981 and the girls of Alpha Gamma Theta sorority are having a party. Amy, sick of living in the dorms, invites her roommate Ava to attend the party with her in hopes that they’ll both become Thetas. As the girls arrive, so does an uninvited guest watching them in the shadows.

Let me tell you a story…
Forward (Creative Process 0.0):
Ever hear a song on the radio or Pandora or Xm or whatever gosh darn music listening device you might use these days and think, “Wow, I would love to use that in a movie soundtrack”? Believe it or not that’s pretty much all I think about when I listen to a few tracks. I’ve developed a strange compulsion to create movie scenes based around popular music. Some would probably call it daydream listening but I think neurosis is more applicable when it comes to the frequency with which I do this.
So I started compiling play lists of songs that fit together into a meaningful story line. Typically I would come up with a common thread or a general plot line and come up with scenes to flesh out that plot line to form… well… a movie script of sorts.

This is either the worst or the most entertaining trailer I've ever seen. Or somewhere in between. I do know that it's never going to see the inside of a movie theater. But The power of Vinnie Jones in a wig compelled me to watch it, and there's a strange, black tar heroin-like allure to it. It's so awful, so horrible, and yet... I just couldn't stop.
This is the trailer for The Bleeding, which sounds like the title of a Cannibal Corpse album. Oh, wait. It is the title of a Cannibal Corpse album. Appropriate, I suppose. Here's the gloriously brief, painful synopsis:
An ex-Army Ranger searching for the killer of his parents discovers a family of vampires in a former chemical weapons factory-turned-nightclub.
Right. Here's the thing: if Hollywood was ever consumed in an holy cleansing fire, and the earth was salted and made barren, and then arsenic...

Dear Internet,
I’m sorry that we don’t like the same movies. I’ve let you down. After all that you’ve given me, from the questionably legal pornography, to the gory photos of car crash victims and dead celebrities, to the endless hours spent trolling creationist message boards and acupuncture websites, I’ve done nothing but bring you pain.
And it’s my fault, really. I should have known better. After all, while you were invented decades ago, your most familiar incarnation only developed in the mid-nineties, which makes you about 14 years of age. So, it makes sense that you get huffy when you encounter differing opinions regarding Tim Burton, and don’t know how punctuation works.
But that doesn’t make it okay for me to voice my opinions when they are so obviously wrong. Clearly, I know nothing about film. Sure, I may be a professional critic.
