One of the most exciting events at this year's Social Media Week Los Angeles will spotlight a company that defines the way web users view images. Tim Hwang, Head of Special Initiatives at Imgur, will host a conversation where he will discuss the ways his company has "grown to be a home to the Internet’s visual culture." Imgur is particuarly popular on Reddit, where its user-friendly design and simple uploading interface help image-based posts rise to the top of their respective "subreddits". Interestingly enough, Imgur actually began on Reddit, where founder Alan Schaaf launched it as "My Gift to Reddit." Hwang--who also founded ROFLcon--will use his talk to discuss where Imgur stands now. He will look at the site's data (1.5 million uploaded images per day, 5 billion page views per month, and more than 130 million unique monthly visitors) and draw conclusions about the potential future of Internet culture

For the fifth year in a row, the City of Angels will play host to a digital media symposium when Social Media Week Los Angeles (Smwla) returns to town. As in previous years, the week-long event will feature dozens of keynotes, panels, and workshops that hope to inspire and educate attendees about the best ways to harness the power of social media. This year, Smwla will run between September 22nd and September 26th at various locations across the city, but with a focus at the shiny new Smwla headquarters The Broad Stage Theater in Santa Monica.
