In Taylor Sheridan’s Special Ops: Lioness on Paramount+, Laysla De Oliveira shocks and awes as Cruz Manuelos, a military recruit who escapes the mean streets to go undercover in the CIA’s war against terrorism.
Here, the Ontario-born newcomer talks about how painful it was — both literally and figuratively — to kick ass in the drama that also stars Zoë Saldaña (Joe), Nicole Kidman (Kaitlyn Meade), Dave Annable (Joe’s husband Neal), Michael Kelly (Bryon Westfield) and Morgan Freeman (Edwin Mullins).
“I can finally talk about it because it’s been a little bit of torture, not being able to shout it from the rooftops,” De Olivera says in reference to how the drama dropped during the actors strike and thus prevented her from talking about the series. “It’s such a dream job.”

With Special Ops: Lioness Season 1 moving quickly towards its finale, the stakes have never been higher for Joe or Cruz on opposite sides of the coin.
As Joe tackles professional issues on top of her crumbling family life, Cruz tries to understand emotions she's never experienced.
Special Ops: Lioness Season 1 Episode 6 contends with the plots that had yet to converge, finding the Lioness team in trouble in more ways than one.
As Joe answered for her team at the White House, the others were dealing with some unexpected intruders while monitoring Cruz.
Meanwhile, Cruz and Aaliyah forge a deeper bond that takes them somewhere, leading to a place of depth as they question their feelings for one another.
The dichotomy between the storylines and the parallel lines drawn between Joe and Cruz again connect the women inextricably.

At this point, Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is pretty much a TV network unto himself, pumping out show after show off the back of the success of the Kevin Costner-fronted series. Now he's headed into territory reminiscent of — but not identical to — that of the film Sicario, which he wrote. New series Special Ops: Lioness continues his blend of easy-to-grasp, hooky concepts with hefty star power, and the first trailer is below.
Indeed, Lioness pushes the Big-Name-o-Meter further into the red zone than ever before, as it features the likes of Zoe Saldaña, Morgan Freeman, and Nicole Kidman.

Taylor Sheridan's reach on television continues to spread, what with the many-tentacled Yellowstone universe, Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown. He has another series, Lioness, boasting his typical starry ensemble, which already includes Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña. Now he's added Morgan Freeman to the lineup.
Lioness is based on a real-life CIA program and follows Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira), a rough-around-the-edges but passionate young Marine recruited to join the CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within. Saldaña will play Joe, the station chief of the Lioness program tasked with training, managing and leading her female undercover operatives.
Freeman is on to be Edwin Mullins, the United States Secretary of State in the show. Which honestly feels like a demotion given how many times he's played the President.

Every new Taylor Sheridan drama promises to be more star-studded than the last. The screenwriter and creator-showrunner of the "Yellowstone" universe (and a handful of other Paramount+ shows) has previously enticed stars like Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Sylvester Stallone, Jeremy Renner, and country stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill to the small screen with juicy roles. Now, we can add Morgan Freeman to the list of acclaimed actors heading to streaming thanks to a Sheridan show. The Oscar-winning star of "Million Dollar Baby" and "The Shawshank Redemption" is poised to join Sheridan and Jill Wagner's upcoming Paramount+ series "Lioness," according to Deadline.
Freeman will be in good company with the CIA thriller: the cast list already includes Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman, who both will also executive produce the show alongside Wagner and Sheridan. Freeman is reportedly set to play a character named Edwin Mullins, who is the U.
