Whenever we think about blood, gore, and intense violence, only one name pops up in our mind: Mortal Kombat. NetherRealm’s iconic franchise is extremely popular among gamers and features some of the best fighting experiences ever. On the flip side, the Mortal Kombat movie, released in 2021, wasn’t that big of a success.
However, that hasn’t stopped Warner Bros. from taking a second chance and releasing another movie. The upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 is a fresh start and features big names Karl Urban and Jessica McNamee. While that’s all good, Warner Bros. has completely dropped the ball by not casting Dwayne Johson as Shao Kahn.

Simon McQuoid’s 2021 feature directorial debut with the martial arts fantasy film Mortal Kombat has certainly created a splash among fans but it was far from having an impressive box office gross. Still, New Line Cinema alongside Atomic Monster and Broken Road Productions is bringing a sequel to the first movie with Warner Brothers distributing the movie.
Sisi Stringer as Mileena in Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat 2 hype is quite promising as the movie will bring back the essence of the action-adventure fighting video game series, Mortal Kombat. However, fans have one subtle demand for the studio asking the makers not to repeat one critical mistake in the sequel of the action movie.
Mortal Kombat 2 Will Be “Way Bigger” Hiroyuki Sanada in Mortal Kombat
The preparation of the movie following the announcement has been long, perhaps, this time Warner Brothers are expecting more appealing sequences embedded into the narrative.

Warner Bros. has announced the official release date for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with the Dcu movie set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. Additionally, the studio unveiled release dates for several of its other big movies, including Mortal Kombat 2, which will hit theaters on October 24, 2025.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will star Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) in the title role, with the film set to be scripted by Ana Nogueira and based on the Tom King comic series of the same name. Craig Gillespie (Cruella) is expected to direct the movie, but DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has teased that this version of Supergirl will be different. “In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone...

DC Studios is wasting no time in setting a release date for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow now that the movie has found its director.
The high-profile movie will fly into cinemas on June 26, 2026, DC and Warner Bros. announced Tuesday. It is the second film to receive a release date since James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought in to overhaul DC under the new banner DC Studios. The first was Superman, which Gunn is currently shooting for a July 2025 release date.
Flimmaker Craig Gillespie was tapped by Gunn and Safran to shepherd Supergirl, which stars Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon). She’ll play Superman’s Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman. The feature film, from a script by Ana Nogueira, is inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic, and will depart from the earnest take on the character seen on the CW Supergirl series.

Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is back at the helm for the sequel Mortal Kombat 2, which recently wrapped production after a bumpy ride through the year of the strikes. This film will be bringing popular video game character Johnny Cage to the screen, with Karl Urban of Dredd, Star Trek, and The Boys taking on the role. Despite Urban’s established awesomeness, he was an unexpected choice for Johnny Cage, and there are some fans who have let it be known that they would have chosen someone else to play the part. We’ll have to wait and see how it turned out, but one thing we know right now is that Urban had a great time working on the movie, calling it “most action packed fun I’ve ever had on a film!”

Karl Urban marked the end of filming on Simon McQuoid‘s upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 on his Instagram, calling it “the most action packed fun I’ve ever had” on a film. Urban, who plays Johnny Cage in the follow-up to the 2021 film, also took the opportunity to show himself sans beard, which he’ll no doubt be growing back for The Boys, which will be returning for Season 4 later this year.
We’ve not seen a picture yet of Urban as everyone’s favourite action movie star, though MK2 producer Todd Garner had given us a peek of what to expect a few weeks back. Garner had taken to X last week to announce that filming had wrapped for the film, which according to Garner, won’t have a trailer out just yet.

It’s been two years since the release of the live action Mortal Kombat reboot, and a sequel is on the way soon. Filming on Mortal Kombat 2 actually kicked off earlier this summer, you may recall, but it didn’t last long due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes going on at the time. But have no fear, because production on the movie sequel gets back underway real soon.

He writes in a follow-up tweet, “I promise I will keep the Mk Kommunity posted as soon as I have info on start date, etc. Everyone else is just speculating… or posting for clicks.”

Producer James Wan revealed last night on Ig that filming is officially underway on Mortal Kombat 2, which has Simon McQuoid returning to the director’s seat from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater (“The Exorcist,” “Moon Knight”).
Martyn Ford (“The Sandman”), Desmond Chiam (“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”), Ana Thu Nguyen (Suka) and Damon Herriman (House of Wax, The Nightingale) signed on a few weeks ago to play Shao Kahn, Edenian King Jerrod, Queen Sindel, and Netherrealm demon Quan Chi respectively.
It’s interesting to note that Herriman previously voiced the role of Kabal in the 2021 film.
Newcomers to the sequel also include Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Tati Gabrielle as Jade and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana.
Plot details remain scarce for the sequel, though the new cast additions continue to signal a bigger, bloodier affair packed with fatalities.

Johnny Cage is an action movie star and martial artist who first appeared in the original Mortal Kombat game released in 1992. The character didn’t appear in the recent Mortal Kombat movie, but a post-credit scene teased that he would be on his way. It was announced earlier this year that Karl Urban was in talks to play Johnny Cage. I’m excited to see the actor in costume for the first time, but I have no doubt that he’s going to knock the role out of the park.

Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is returning to the helm for the sequel that we’ll refer to as Mortal Kombat 2 until someone tells us otherwise. Filming on this follow-up is expected to begin soon (unless the writers strike causes a delay), and over the last month and a half McQuoid has been steadily building up his cast. The Boys star Karl Urban has been cast to play Johnny Cage; Adeline Rudolph (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) is set to play Princess Kitana; and Tati Gabrielle (You) is taking on the role of Jade, the friend and bodyguard of Princess Kitana. Now Deadline reports that four more actors have joined the cast, filling the roles of Outworld emperor Shao Kahn, Kahn’s wife Queen Sindel, Netherrealm demon Quan Chi, and Jerrod, who was the King of Edenia (and married to Sindel) until Edenia’s warriors lost in the Mortal Kombat tournament.

A sequel to the Mortal Kombat movie from 2021 is on the way, and The Wrap reports tonight that Karl Urban (“The Boys”) is in final talks to join the cast as Johnny Cage.
The Wrap reminds, “Johnny Cage was introduced in the first Mortal Kombat arcade game in 1992. Johnny Cage is depicted as an action movie star with an extensive martial arts background. He is often characterized as a swashbuckling, Hollywood fighting movie star who places great importance on his image and consistently behaves in a cool manner.”
The star of Amazon’s hit series “The Boys,” Karl Urban turns 50 years old next month, so this particular take on the classic Mortal Kombat character is sure to be different than expected. Many fans had been lobbying for WWE superstar The Miz to play Cage in the upcoming sequel, but Urban’s casting will bring a whole new facet to the character.

Plot: After a series of tragedies, Robert moves with his wife back to her childhood home. After he discovers an old portrait of a man who looks like him, he goes down a rabbit hole to discover the identity of this mysterious doppelganger.
Review: I was shocked to see that The Visitor is coming to us from Blumhouse. Usually, when I see that company, I see quite the marketing blitz. Yet this film has mostly come without so much as a peep. That had me very worried at the onset. Then I watched the trailer and was immediately concerned that I had just been shown the entire film. Unfortunately, that’s kind of true.
The story is just really uninteresting and doesn’t amount to much outside of a light mystery. Sure, it’s interesting that Robert (Jones) moves with his wife Maia (McNamee) into the middle of nowhere and...

Erin Moriarty is clapping back at misogynistic backlash she receives for her portrayal of Annie January/Starlight in the Prime Video superhero series “The Boys”.
Moriarty took to Instagram to repost a fan article titled “#IStandWithStarlight?: The Betrayal of Erin Moriarty by The Boys Fans”, which highlights some of the misogynistic hate fans have directed at the character — and, by extension, Moriarty herself — in various corners of the internet.
“The harassment feels all the worse given the context of her role as Starlight on the show, a woman silenced and sexualized, treated like a celebrity canvas for others to project onto rather than a human being with her own thoughts and feelings. But Annie is fictional, and Erin is not. The torment doesn’t end for her when the credit starts, because there is no switch off,” one portion of the article reads, adding, “Whilst I’m sure her...

A “Mortal Kombat” sequel is in the works at Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema.
Jeremy Slater, best known for the Disney Plus Marvel series “Moon Knight,” has been tapped to write the screenplay. Warner Bros. and New Line had quietly been looking to develop other installments in its “Mortal Kombat” universe, but plans for a follow-up film had not been official until Slater had been hired to pen the script.
The first “Mortal Kombat,” a martial arts-inspired adaptation of the popular video game, opened in theaters and on HBO Max last April. Despite mixed reviews, the R-rated movie still managed to generate solid ticket sales at a time when most people were largely steering clear of their local cinema. It earned $42 million domestically and $83 million worldwide.
Simon McQuoid, who directed “Mortal Kombat,” previously hinted to Variety that he would be interested in expanding the movie into a gory action franchise.

As a game, Mortal Kombat has been a worldwide phenomenon, and on the big screen, the first two Mortal Kombat films in the 1990s found great success outside the U.S. So it should come as no surprise that the new Mortal Kombat film was cast with an international focus . Thanks to that — along […]

Stunt coordinator Kyle Gardiner worked with director Simon McQuoid and fight choreographer Chan Griffin to deliver the extreme fights in the “Mortal Kombat” movie. Combining signature moves with well-structured action, the stunt team had plenty to work with for this action-packed fantasy flick.
Free from the PG-13 boundaries applied to 1995’s enjoyably campy Paul W.S. Anderson-directed adaptation, this R-rated 2021 effort puts much more emphasis on the brutal nature of these bouts, complete with the gory fatalities this gaming franchise is known for.
With over a dozen combatants involved in nearly 20 different individual fights, it was important to add a unique element to every battle to keep from seeing the same thing over and over. As Gardiner explains, “There was a mood board for each fight, and it created a tone and a level of violence Simon was after, keeping the fights from blending into each other.”
It takes research to plan out any stunt,...

Warner Bros.’ Mortal Kombat proved the main attraction at the box office last weekend, driving almost half of all trade, and ranking as one of the highest R-rated openers of all time.
Shot in South Australia, directed by Australian director Simon McQuoid and produced by fellow Aussie James Wan, Mortal Kombat opened on $3.6 million from 406 screens – a whopping average of $8,922.
With previews, the New Line Cinema actioner, inspired by the video game franchise of the same name, is on $4.09 million.
That’s behind the opening of other R-rated titles The Wolf of Wall Street ($5.13 million) and Hannibal ($4.25 million), but ahead of Eyes Wide Shut (opened on $2.55 million), The Hateful Eight ($2.42m) and Kill Bill Vol.1 ($2.26 million).
However, Hannibal technically opened as a MA15+ film, and was moved to R after week one – so Mortal Kombat can effectively claim second place.
