What’s your favourite Taskmaster task? Did it result in a delicious failure or a triumphant win? Was it a crafty solution from a cunning mind, or a bonkers, impractical response that could only have come from the brain of John Kearns?
We asked our writers to nominate their favourites, in order (and not including Prize Tasks because that’s already been covered here), and collated the results into the Top 50 below. With 15 series proper, two Champion of Champions specials, and multiple New Year’s Treat episodes, there were approximately 89,000 tasks to choose from, hence a nice, neat 50.
If you’re at all concerned about the scientific robustness of our approach, rest assured that Google Sheets formulas were used in the creation of this list, resulting in an entirely accurate ranking order that cannot be questioned. Well alright, you can question it.
So, what are the best Taskmaster tasks of all time?...

Warning: contains, well, would you call them spoilers? Anyway, those.
Taskmaster’s weekly prize task involves each contestant bringing in an item that responds to the same prompt (Most Powerful Smell/Best Chair/Most Important Document…) in the hope of winning the lot at the end of the episode. It’s the first task of every show, a chance for the comedians to land a punchline early doors, and points-wise, to bag what series 15 runner-up Ivo Graham might refer to as “a Sweet Five”.
All that time to plan the perfect response! What a boon for swots and “Be Prepared” types, you might think. Sometimes. And sometimes not. The capricious nature of the Taskmaster’s scoring logic often finds painstakingly honed prize task entries sent away with a single point while zero-thought efforts delivered with conviction sail off with the big money. And by big money, we mean framed photographs of Frankie Boyle’s children,...

There are few bad days that can’t be remedied by watching an episode of Would I Lie To You?
This award-winning BBC panel show has been making us laugh for over 15 years thanks to hilarious repeat performances from the likes of Bob Mortimer and Rhod Gilbert, and the top-tier chemistry between team captains Lee Mack and David Mitchell and host Rob Brydon.
It’s created so many legendary funny moments that picking a favourite is almost impossible, but here are the Would I Lie To You? stories that have gone down in TV history:
16. Henning Wehn Goes Missing in Morocco
Henning Wehn appears to have gone to the Kevin Bridges School of Storytelling (more on that later) – his yarns have a similarly scatter-brained approach that are pleasingly impossible to predict. Here he claims Interpol listed him as a missing person when he went on a bike ride in Spain...

A formal complaint has been made about the author, actor and comedian Stephen Fry over jokes he allegedly told at a cricketing dinner at Lord’s in London.
Marylebone Cricket Club’s president said that the complaint is “incorrect” and some attendees have claimed that Fry was misheard.
Fry, who is president of Marylebone Cricket Club, allegedly cracked a joke about women “shagging” and another that linked Muslims to terrorism.
According to The Times, McC member Chris Waterman urged the club to take disciplinary action against Fry, calling his jokes “egregious”.
Waterman claims that Fry welcomed members by saying: “I had intended to say ‘Good evening, ladies and gentlemen,’ but there are no lady members present. I suppose they are off shagging.”
He also alleged that Fry – referring to the Allahakbarries, an amateur cricket team founded by Peter Pan author Jm Barrie – joked that when used today, the phrase “Allahu...

Slate was the original voice of Missy in the adult animated series, which became a cult hit following its Netflix premiere in 2017.
When the actor announced her departure in 2020, she said she had “reasoned that it was permissible for me to play Missy because her mom is Jewish and white – as am I”, but continued: “Missy is also Black, and Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people.”
Elaborating upon her decision in a new interview with The Independent, Slate said: “I assessed the choices I made and I knew that they were wrong. I wanted to depart and make space for performers who should be playing the part I was playing.”

Eamonn Holmes has expressed his frustration about his treatment in the media landscape as a “white man in his sixties” in a new interview.

Speaking about his exit from his Radio 5 programme in 2009, Holmes, 63, claimed that while his listenership ratings were “excellent”, an executive told him that the show was “attracting the wrong type of people”, and that they were pursuing a younger audience.
“You’re attracting older people, and we don’t want that,” Holmes claims he was told during a meeting with a production boss.

Sir David Attenborough has shared the one regret he has about his career in global nature filmmaking.
The renowned documentarian is marking the 69th anniversary of his first television appearance this year.
In a change from his usual explorations of global flora and fauna, his forthcoming series Wild Isles will focus solely on British wildlife.
During a new interview, the 96-year-old broadcaster gave some insight into how his legacy as an internationally focused conservationist came to be.
He explained that early on in his career, he had been encouraged to focus on wildlife overseas while the BBC’s Natural History Unit in Bristol would handle any projects that dealt with nature in Britain.
“There was a chap trying to establish Bristol then as a centre of natural history,” he told The Telegraph in the interview, published on Saturday (18 February).
“He knew which strings to pull and I could see things coming to a head.

The actor shared his views while appearing on the BBC One politics programme Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.
“I think Australia will become Republican at some point. It feels natural,” he explained in the interview, set for broadcast on Sunday (19 February).
He continued: “It feels like something that is, I would guess inevitable, and I guess would be a natural part of an evolution of a country. You know?”
Jackman told Kuenssberg that he has both British and Australian citizenship and grew up in a household that revered the royal family.
“I’m a British citizen as I am an Australian citizen – I don’t know if people know that but I am,” he stated.
“My father made us stop doing whatever we could to watch, in 1981, the wedding of Lady Di and Prince Charles.

The contestant with the most points that episode takes home all the things, while the contestant with the most points at the end of the season takes home a much-coveted gold trophy in the shape of Greg Davies' head.

The Emily in Paris star attended a screening for the Netflix show’s third season in New York City on Thursday. Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily, Collins shared how she thinks the titular character can afford her ubiquitous wardrobe.
“I love this idea of the suspension of disbelief that this girl just loves fashion so much,” Collins told the outlet. “I like to think she and Mindy [Ashley Park] have a giant storage unit of clothes they share, or maybe Emily does a clothing rental situation.”
As for the upcoming third season, Collins said viewers can expect Emily’s style to “start looking a little more French as she finds inspiration from friends and coworkers”.

Jay Blades has said that he’s been “getting a lot of grief” after touching King Charles III during a special episode of The Repair Shop.
During The Repair Shop: A Royal Visit, which also celebrated the BBC’s centenary when it aired in October, the then Prince of Wales’s bracket clock and a piece made for Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee by British ceramics maker Wemyss Ware were fixed.
Some have apparently complained that the presenter broke royal protocol by touching Charles.
In the one-off programme, Blades greeted the 74-year-old with a cup of Earl Grey tea, presenting it in an Hrh mug and putting his hand on Charles’s arm.
Moments later, Charles returned the gesture by placing a hand on Blades’s back.

“We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.”
The Hollywood star, who is 67, has now been pictured posing with a puppy alongside his wife Emma Heming and his children.
The photos were shared on Instagram by his ex-wife Demi Moore, with whom he has remained friends since divorcing in 2000.

James Cameron has reflected on the “problem” with Terminator: Dark Fate after “butting heads” with the director.
The filmmaker behind the first two Terminator films returned to produce the sixth installment in the franchise, which was directed by Tim Miller and released in 2019.
Months after its premiere, Miller vowed to never work with Cameron again, stating: “It has nothing to do with whatever trauma I have from the experience; it’s more that I just don’t want to be in a situation again where I don’t have the control to do what I think is right.”
While Cameron has said in a new interview he is “actually reasonably happy with the film”, the Avatar: The Way of Water director said of Miller: “I liked him before the movie, didn’t like him very much during the movie, and I like him now, and I think he feels the same way.

Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page has said that she hopes the show will return for a future Christmas special.

British sitcoms have long been the source of reboot attempts in America.
The big one that springs to mind is The Office, which became a global hit and, following its addition to Netflix, one of its most-watched titles. A recent success has been Ghosts, which received acclaim upon its debut in 2021.
However, there have been many botched attempts – Spaced, The Inbetweeners and The It Crowd, to name a few.
There have also been several attempts to do a US version of Peep Show in the past, all of which have failed – but FX is going to give it another go, with series creators Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain on board as executive producers.
However, the former will not be scripting the pilot due to his commitments with HBO’s Succession. Emmy-nominated Stefani Robinson, who worked on Atlanta and What We Dp in the Shadows, will write the first episode.

The clip of Hammond comes from archival footage of Harry and Meghan meeting the public during their first royal walkabout together in Nottingham. From the crowd, Hammond yells: “Meghan, we love you!”

Ryan Coogler has spoken out about the difficulties of making Black Panther: Wakanda Forever after the death of Chadwick Boseman.
Boseman played T’Challa, the Black Panther, in the first film, as well as in several other pictures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In August 2020, he died of colon cancer at age 43 – an event that left his Black Panther castmates devastated and without the lead star of their planned sequel movie.
Coogler, who co-wrote and directed Black Panther and the follow-up film, released in November, has spoken out about “feeling uncomfortable” continuing the story without Boseman.
While delivering the David Lean lecture at Bafta on Monday (12 December), he said: “I was a director without a lead actor, tasked to make a film about a hero when we’d just lost ours.
“So the question was, how do you move on when your very existence, your very identity, was defined by another person,...

Molly Rainford has shared an emotional post on Instagram ahead of the Strictly Come Dancing final.
The 22-year-old actor was the bookies’ favourite to leave the dance competition during Sunday (11 December) night’s semifinal, having already faced the dance-off four times this series.
However, Rainford and partner Carlos Gu made it into the final while avoiding the bottom two in Monday’s (12 December) results show.
Instead, Fleur East and Will Mellor faced the dance-off, with Mellor being eliminated.
Celebrating making it to the final, Rainford posted on Instagram: “Words can’t describe this feeling. Nobody understands just how grateful we are to not only be Strictly Come Dancing 2022 Finalists but to get to that place in the final all thanks [to] your support and votes.”
The actor opened up about working with Gu on his first series as a professional dancer on the show and explained that getting to the final...

The Anchoress, aka musician Catherine Anne Davies has been granted an interim stalking order against Mansun’s former frontman, Paul Draper.
Draper is accused of stalking Davies and her manager Sean Adams. Accusations include sending “abusive and sexually orientated messages, which are extensive and regular”.
The 52-year-old denies the claims, saying that he was not responsible for the majority of the messages, and any which came from him had a “significant background” behind them, the Daily Mail reports.
The proceedings are set to go ahead in May after Draper has completed his tour throughout early next year.
In the meantime, restrictions have been put in place to stop Draper from making any contact with Davies. The former frontman cannot contact either Davies or her manager, nor “incite another person to do so”.
He is also prohibited from visiting the 37-year-old’s family home and cannot sign up to any subscriptions or websites on her behalf.

Joanna Page has recalled an embarrassing moment from the first ever Love Actually read-through.
The Gavin & Stacey star appears in Richard Curtis’s 2003 Christmas romcom as Judy, a body double working in film.
Her character is required to perform sex scenes alongside fellow actor John (Martin Freeman), but the pair end up striking up a tentative romantic relationship off-camera.
Appearing on Loose Women on Tuesday (13 December), Page admitted that she’d only ever seen the film once.
She then shared a story from the set of the film, when she was sat at the read-through alongside the likes of Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman and Liam Neeson.
“I just remember getting there, I was 23, brand new,” she said. ‘Like, ‘Oh my god, I can’t believe everyone is here.”
She then recalled how everyone was present apart from the women Colin Frissell (Kris Marshall) meets in America, played by January Jones,...

Liam Payne has shared an oil painting which he created in tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The painting, which is over 4 feet tall, apparently took the singer 50 hours to complete.
On Monday (12 December), the former One Direction star shared the artwork via his Instagram page which showed the large “unfinished” painting.
“Unfinished oil canvas I painted of the Queen,” Payne wrote. “This is 4.5 feet tall and took about 50 hours... Rip Hrh.”
The painting shows the Queen in her younger years wearing her crown, a pale green dress and a white sash.
Queen Elizabeth died on 8 September 2022 after reigning for over 70 years.

Sir David Attenborough skips to the end of nature documentaries before watching them, a BBC producer has admitted.
According to BBC Natural History executive producer Mike Gunton, Attenborough likes to see the outcome of the programmes he narrates.
“He often spins to the end [of the programme before he narrates it] to find out what happens,” Gunton told The Daily Telegraph.
“He just wants to ensure that everything is Ok, which I think is charmingly atypical of him.”
Gunton said that, while Attenborough wasn’t an “animal lover”, he cared what happens to the creatures in his documentaries.
In 2013, Attenborough told Metro that he is “intoxicated by animals” and has owned gibbons, chimpanzees, chameleons, snakes, and lemurs. The only creatures he does not like, however, are rats.
Last month, a climate protester from Animal Rebellion was arrested after reportedly approaching Attenborough at a Michelin-star restaurant on the south coast of England.

Anton Du Beke has explained why he voted to save Will Mellor over Fleur East in the Strictly Come Dancing semi-final.
After a high-scoring semi-final on Sunday (11 December) night, East and partner Vito Coppola found themselves in the bottom two with Mellor and Nancy Xu.
After the couples performed again, both Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse voted for East. But when the vote came to Du Beke, the former pro dancer said that East and Coppola had made “an error in a dismount from a lift”, and he wanted Mellor to go through.
The casting vote was then given to head judge Shirley Ballas, who voted for East and Coppola, and sent Mellor and Xu home.
However, on social media, many viewers suggested that the judges had made the wrong decision and that Du Beke was correct to take into account East’s mistake.

Good Morning Britain viewers have mocked presenter Richard Madeley for his conduct during an interview with union boss Mick Lynch.
Lynch, who serves as the general secretary of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (Rmt), was appearing on the ITV morning show amid a series of planned rail strikes.
The interview saw Madeley repeatedly interupt Lynch and talk at length in condemnation of the strikes, at one point telling the exasperated interviewee to “jog on”.
“Why couldn’t you have put all these strikes in January?” Madeley said. “Why do you have to target people at Christmas? You’ll be putting people out of business who run hotels, who run restaurants, who run bars, and retail.”
“Well, we’re not targeting Christmas,” Lynch replied. “It isn’t Christmas yet, Richard. I don’t know when your Christmas starts, but mine starts on Christmas Eve.”

Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley has said he believes the Duke of Sussex seems like a “very damaged man”, ahead of the release of the second volume of Netflix’s Harry and Meghan.
The latest trailer for part two of the Netflix documentary series shows Prince Harry take aim at his brother William, Prince of Wales.
It contains a clip of Harry saying: “They were happy to lie to protect my brother. They were never willing to tell the truth to protect us.”
Discussing the documentary on Tuesday’s episode (13 December) with The Sunday Times’ royal editor Royah Nikkah and journalist Maverine Cole, Madeley and co-host Susanna Reid addressed the reaction and fallout from the first three episodes, which were released last week.
“What we saw in the first three episodes and will probably see in the next is a complete abandonment of caring what the media thinks, because...

Zoe Saldaña has set the record straight regarding her comments that she has felt “stuck” in film franchises over the past decade.
The actor has starred in the Star Trek, Avatar, and Marvel films, but said in an interview last month that she felt unable to “expand or grow” while appearing in franchises.
However, appearing at the premiere of Avatar: The Way of Water on Monday (12 December) night, Saldana played down her original remarks.
“[Those films] resonated with people so much so that we get a chance to come back again and come back another time,” she told Deadline.
“If anything, I’ve reaped all the benefits of that, I’ve gained friends. I feel like the luckiest girl in this town. I still have mentors that I call and lean into.”
In the original interview, Saldaña admitted that she’d felt less able to play different characters now because she was...
