America’s Next Top Model creator Tyra Banks took to Twitter to honor Jael Strauss, a contestant on the reality competition series who died Tuesday at the age of 34 after a battle with breast cancer.
“Top Model has lost a beautiful soul,” wrote Banks. “We will all remember Jael and her fun-loving spirit and beautiful soul.”
Strauss was a contestant on season 8 of Top Model and made it fairly far in the competition, placing 6th. In October, she announced her cancer diagnosis on Facebook. From there, she gave a candid and optimistic look at her journey that was very true to Banks’ comment about her fun-loving spirit. In November, she entered hospice.
A Go Fund Me page started by Strauss’ partner and friends last month to help defray her medical expenses confirmed her death on Tuesday.

Former "America's Next Top Model" contestant Jael Strauss dedicated her life to helping people struggling with addiction before she lost her battle with cancer earlier this week. An employee at Solstice Recovery Foundation near Austin, TX, who worked there with Jael, tells TMZ the ex-model was heavily involved in the rehab center's efforts -- volunteering to help folks, especially women, fight drug addiction. We're told Jael would often spearhead online fundraisers to provide scholarships to those needing treatment.

Let’s be honest, if Tyra Banks tells you, “Congratulations. You are still in the running to be America’s Next Top Model,” you’re already out of the running to be a real top model. While some contestants have found success -- Analeigh Tipton and Yaya DaCosta, arguably two of the most successful alumni, have established careers in acting -- the show has failed to produce an actual working supermodel.
Meanwhile, a number of contestants have found nothing but heartache when cameras stopped rolling. Here are six ill-fated outcomes, the first three actually tragic, horrible and devastating, the latter four more...unfortunate (so as not to compare apples to oranges).

The America's Next Top Model-loving world was shocked when Dr. Phil revealed cycle 8 contestant Jael Strauss would be featured on an upcoming episode of his show now that she's sunk deep into a meth addiction.
But perhaps even more shocking are statements cycle 7 winner Caridee English left in Gawker's post about the terrifying trailer, featuring Jael's unsettling new look.
She writes, "Tyra [Banks] won't do anything. She provided a wonderful platform for girls to have a chance at their dream, but, after there is no 'Tyra Mail' I had to guide myself, and even though I won a model competition I still had no idea what the modeling Business was like. … I am not complaining, I am simply defending. I love love what I have made for myself since my win, but mentally, it's horrific. And any girl who has been on Antm can back me up. No one wants to take us serious as models. I am sure...

Drugs are bad, kids. "America's Next Top Model" fans will remember Jael Strauss from Cycle 8. She was the model who irritated 50 Cent so much at a party, he pushed her into the pool.
During the season, she was devastated by a phone call that one of her best friends had died back home, from a drug overdose. That probably should've been a red flag, considering that today, Jael suffers from an addiction to meth that has eaten her once-photogenic face.

Jael's family appealed to Dr. Phil for an intervention, saying that she's suffered from a meth addiction for 6 years -- which would imply that 5 years ago, when she was on "America's Next Top Model," she was abusing drugs.
Her skin has essentially disintegrated as a result of all the drug use, and mentally, she's not doing too well either. During the show, she bolted from the studio,...

Methamphetamines and modeling don't mix. At age 22, Jael Strauss was trying to win over Tyra Banks on America's Next Top Model. Now, at 28, the former reality star is addicted to crystal meth. In an emotional Dr. Phil episode airing Thursday, Jael's family teams up with the psychologist to stage a life-saving intervention. But Jael, whose own friend died of a heroin overdose during her stint on Antm, is clearly resistant to getting help. In a preview clip, she's shown starting to step out on Dr. Phil's stage, then turning and bolting through the Paramount lot. Jael Strauss, a former contestant on "America's Next Top Model," has been struggling with an addiction to meth and now, Dr. Phil is trying to help.
Strauss's family contacted "Dr. Phil" (weekdays, syndicated) to help stage an intervention for the 28-year-old woman, but in the below preview of the episode, which airs on Thursday, September 13, it doesn't look like Strauss wants the help. The "full-blown meth addict," as Dr. Phil refers to her, physically fights to resist coming to the set of "Dr. Phil." After finally agreeing and heading to the show, she runs away from the set and Dr. Phil heads outside to talk to her on the Paramount lot.
