Exclusive: Tony Amendola (Stargate Sg-1) will topline Rough Magic: Exit Shakespeare, a new film from veteran TV director Andy Wolk (The Practice) and Silver Spring Road Films that has recently wrapped production.
The film is set in 1611 on a single night where Shakespeare (Amendola) is at a crisis point in his career. It’s about how writers age, their jealousies, resentments, and regrets, why they can’t revisit their old glories, and how their writing can overwhelm their life. Shakespeare has sacrificed much of his family life for his theatrical success and now—haunted with guilt about missing his young son’s death to the plague—he is forced to reflect on the price at which glory comes.
WGA and Humanitas Award winner Wolk directed from a script he wrote with Elliot Krieger, and produced alongside Matt Handy.

Cannes slate includes trio of classics as well as slew of new films, including pictures from Arto Halonen and Tala Hadid.
Wide Management has picked up international sales on Jean Renoir’s 1939 picture The Bitch (La Chienne), which is screening in Cannes Classics this year.
The tale of a humble clerk who falls victim to a prostitute and her violent, scheming pimp, was Renoir’s second sound film.
It recently restored by Les Films du Jeudi - the historic production company of Renoir’s late producer Pierre Braunbreger - and the Cinémathèque Francaise with the support of France’s National Cinema Centre and the DGA and WGA-backed Franco-American Cultural Fund.
“Screening in Cannes Classics gives a masterpiece like La Chienne, which is part of cinema history, a new lease of life and visibility,” said Wide Management’s founding chief, Loic Magneron. “This is a timeless classic that should be seen by new audiences.”

Exclusive: Wide Management has acquired world sales rights to Russian crime drama Break Loose, directed and produced by Alexey Uchitel.
The film will have its world premiere in Toronto’s Contemporary World Cinema section.
Break Loose is based on the autobiographical best-selling Russian novel Vosmerka by Zakhar Prilepin, and tells the story of a police operative who falls for a ganster’s moll.
Uchitel’s Rock Films produced. The Wide deal excludes Russia and the Cis, where Rock Films has already sold the rights to Timur Bekmambetov’s Bazelevs Distribution (which will launch in early 2014).
The sales deal was negotiated by Loïc Magneron, President and founder of Wide Management, and Olga Aylarova on behalf of Rock Films.
“Loïc Magneron of Wide Management is impressive in his knowledge of the market trends and the buyers but even more impressive in his individualized handling of each film and each filmmaker,” said co-producer Kira Saksaganskaya.

NEW YORK -- Film Movement has acquired all North American rights to the drama Dreams of Dust, the story of a Nigerian peasant who seeks to escape his past in a gold-mine town.
Laurent Salgues' film, nominated for a World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival, follows a man on his journey for mining work in a small African town who discovers that the mine was abandoned long ago. He finds redemption in the arms of a widower and her child as he helps in their struggle to survive.
The France, Canada and Burkina Faso co-production was an official selection at the Venice Film Festival (Venice Days), Melbourne International Film Festival, Shanghai Film Festival, Sarasota Film Festival and Rome Film Festival.
" 'Dreams of Dust' will be appreciated by the ever-growing population of sophisticated film fans looking for a truly heartfelt and intellectual entertainment experience," Film Movement CEO Stuart Litman said.
The acquisition was negotiated by Film Movement president Adley Gartenstein with Loic Magneron from Wide Management.
