Harry Potter is making a move! On Aug. 5, NBCUniversal's Peacock announced that all eight franchise films will be available to stream on the platform starting in October and rolling into 2021. The films are currently streaming on WarnerMedia's HBO Max and have been ever since the streaming service went live in May. HBO Max subscribers only need a current HBO subscription or $15 a month to sign up for the platform, and they can dive back into the Wizarding World until the franchise moves to Peacock in the fall.
The investment was an expensive one for WarnerMedia, who had to buy a three-month window on all of the wizarding world films - including the two Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movies - after Universal nabbed exclusive rights in a 2016 deal. Kevin Reilly, HBO Max's content chief, told Business Insider that taking back the franchise rights was "high on...

All eight Harry Potter movies, which had a brief run on HBO Max when the WarnerMedia streaming service launched in May, are moving to Peacock this fall.
The availability on NBCUniversal’s streaming outlet, which went live in April before a national expansion in July, was specified as a six-month run starting in October and lasting into 2021. The shift aligns the films’ streaming presence with a broader licensing deal for the films, encompassing NBCUniversal TV networks. NBCU’s Universal Studios theme parks also have a popular Potter-themed attraction.

Matt Strauss, a veteran Comcast exec who took the helm of NBCUniversal streaming service Peacock last fall, knew one thing for certain when he started: He wasn’t creating a copycat offering.
“TV tends to be very dynamic,” he told Deadline in an interview ahead of Peacock’s July 15 nationwide expansion. “It’s current. It’s social. Many streaming services feel more like a casino. There’s no sense of time or place.”

New York -- "Wolfman" and "Green Zone" may not have been the biggest box office performers, but Viacom's MTV Networks thinks its target demo will enjoy them.
The MTV Networks unit has acquired the broadcast premiere rights to various 2010 films and classics from NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution, which will particularly benefit Spike TV, which targets males 18-49, the companies said Monday. Most of the movies are set for a 2012 TV premiere.
Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Spike got the rights to "Robin Hood," which grossed $310 million in worldwide box office, "Wolfman" ($160 million) and "Green Zone" ($94 million).
Also as part of the deal, which covers a total of 57 films, Comedy Central procured the rights to the broadcast premiere of "Get Him to the Greek," while MTV acquired "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World."
The content package also includes film classics, such as "Scarface," "A Bronx Tale," "Cape Fear" and the "Jaws" trilogy.

Frances Manfredi has been upped to executive vp/general sales manager for cable and nontheatrical sales at NBC Universal's domestic distribution unit.
Manfredi, who had been senior vp cable sales since 2005, will continue to oversee all cable, airline and nontheatrical sales for NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution. In her previous role, she licensed many NBC primetime series to cable networks -- including the recent off-net sales of "The Office", "Heroes" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" -- as well as several Universal movie packages.
Manfredi, who is based in New York, joined NBC in 2001, serving as senior vp cable sales at NBC Enterprises before segueing into a role at the domestic distribution division. She will continue to report to division president Barry Wallach.
"Frances is a tremendous leader and continues to be one of the top sales executives in our industry," he said. "In an environment that is continuously changing, she has remained a true constant because of her innovative dealmaking."
For her part, Manfredi said she wants to orchestrate "super creative" deals, including exploring new opportunities in digital media.
