Back in November, Mark Hamill told fans at Fan Expo San Francisco that he would no longer be portraying the Clown Prince of Gotham.
Despite being considered by many to be the best Joker of all time, Hamill believed he just couldn't play the role unless it was opposite Kevin Conroy's Batman. Conroy, who voiced Bruce Wayne/Batman across several projects, passed away in November 2022.
But it seems there was a little caveat that allowed for Hamill to reprise the iconic villain role one final time in an upcoming game called MultiVersus. As it turns out, prior to his passing, Kevin Conroy also voiced Batman in the fighting game. It's perhaps for this reason that Hamill made an exception to his previous statement and returned to the role of Joker in the game.
For those unfamiliar, MultiVersus is a free-to-play platform fighter, in the same vein as Nintendo's Super Smash Bros.

The first full-length trailer for Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three has just hit (via Toonado.com), and it teases what looks to be a high-stakes finale to this animated trilogy (and the Tomorrowverse as we know it).
With the Anti-Monitor on the loose, a whole host of heroes assemble to save the Multiverse, but it looks like that will be easier said than done when they also have Lex Luthor to contend with. Several other villains are also spotted, including The Joker, Scarecrow, and Two-Face.
In terms of cameos, the trailer ends with another Batman: The Animated Series tease. Batman Beyond also appears, but perhaps the biggest surprise comes when we return to the world of the Super Friends!
The Saturday morning cartoon aired between 1973 and 1985 on ABC and was produced by Hanna-Barbera. That classic animation style returns here and we're hoping the movie has even...

The director of the first Doctor Strange movie is opening up about almost casting Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role.
The actor had been in early talks to bring the Marvel character to life, but months later it was revealed those talks were “dead.”
Of course, the role ended up going to Benedict Cumberbatch, who director Scott Derrickson was his first choice and he met with other actors after not thinking he would be able to get him.
Now, after Doctor Strange’s two solo movies and several appearances in the MCU, Scott is revealing why Joaquin never landed the role.

In 2022, teenagers flocked to cinemas dressed in suits and tuxedos, there to see and celebrate the Illumination film Minions: The Rise of Gru. It was part of a trend, apparently developed organically, called #GentleMinions, of young fans celebrating (some, perhaps ironically) the film franchise with which they grew up.
Universal, which distributed the film, was, suffice it to say, thrilled, and the film ultimately delivered more than $939 million at the box office.
This year, Illumination has another film in the franchise hitting theaters, Despicable Me 4, and the studio is once again betting on a dose of social media virality to kick-start its campaign, turning to an athlete known as “The Joker.”
On Saturday, Nikola Jokić, the star NBA center for the Denver Nuggets, arrived for the team’s playoff game against the Los Angeles Lakers dressed suspiciously like Gru, the franchise’s protagonist. It quickly went viral, with memes and jokes all over TikTok,...

It is not a rare sight to see video games often collaborating with cinematic and other similar franchises that focus on a similar genre in order to entertain a larger audience. The same was the case when an unexpected collaboration between Mortal Kombat and DC came back in 2008, leaving fans shocked but glad as they enjoyed fighting against some of the most known superheroes.
What would have made such collaboration even better would be an animated movie, which is something that was actually pitched to Warner Bros, or WB as they own the copyright and trademarks to the superheroes. This was unfortunately shot down, depriving fans of what could have been a great experience watching the movie.

Fans of Batman: The Animated Series (Btas) can expertly recall the show’s gritty, dark tone that distinguished it from other superhero animated series. Bruce Timm, the lead artist and co-creator of the show, is largely responsible for that due to his genius.
But did you know that Timm’s vision for the show was initially met with skepticism and resistance from censors? In fact, Fox’s strict guidelines fueled the producer’s creativity and increased the show’s scare factor. One of the key elements that set the acclaimed animated series apart was its depiction of violence.
As a kids’ program, the Batman Animated Series was not allowed to depict any particular kind of violence or action that younger viewers might attempt when it debuted on Fox in the early 1990s.

WB Games makes two very criticized DC Comics games after selling millions of copies of Hogwarts Legacy. Fans have been infuriated by the representation of these characters in games like Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
This Rocksteady title did not even make it to the reviewers because the studio was aware that the score would add even more bad press to the already hated title. Aside from the lack of sales and the bad reputation, the studio is betting on more content for the game in the upcoming months, with new story missions that could change it all.
Several changes in the story are coming to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League The Flash will be very important in upcoming seasons of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

After a very poor launch the new Rocksteady title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, confirmed that it will keep releasing content. The first season is already live, with The Joker as a new playable character. The new season introduces additional elements to the game, such as the ability to explore Elseworlds, which are parallel universes within DC Comics.
According to some rumors and insiders, in season four of the game, Batman will be a playable character who comes from a medieval Elseworld. And Kevin Conroy apparently recorded dialog for the storyline before passing away in 2022.

Actor Heath Ledger died tragically young in 2008 at the age of 28. The loss of the actor at such a young age not only was a huge blow to his family, friends and fans, but also left a huge hole in film history since we will never know what the actor would have accomplished in his later years.

Outside of his time fighting with a lightsaber, Mark Hamill has dominated the world of voice acting, having been a part of more animated projects than almost anyone in the film industry. He has played characters from all corners of the genre, being a part of the Marvel animated universe, The Sandman, The Boy and The Heron, and even Gravity Falls.

And Dastmalchian has revealed in a recent interview that he drew inspiration for his portrayal of Delroy from the same man as Heath Ledger allegedly did for his iconic role as the Joker in The Dark Knight.

David Dastmalchian thought it was a mistake when he was offered the chance to play the lead role in 'Late Night with the Devil'.The 48-year-old actor stars in the horror flick as the 1970s talk show host Jack Delroy but had reservations about taking the part in the movie from sibling directors Colin and Cameron Cairnes.David told The Hollywood Reporter: "I looked at the log line and said, 'Which lead?' There's no way anybody thinks I'm the guy to play a late-night talk show host."There's a lot of roles that I can imagine myself slipping into: Bond villain, Sith Lord, cult leader, creepy suspect number 17, but charming, witty, funny talk show host?"David doubted that he would be able to do the part justice but had an "incredible experience" working with the Cairnes brothers and is looking forward to the rest of the world seeing the film.

Throughout cinematic history, audiences have been enthralled by an array of villainous characters, ranging from the intellectually formidable to the utterly deranged. While many villains adhere to conventional tropes, there are those whose portrayal transcends cliches, etching a lasting impression on viewers’ minds.
Heath Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight
One such character is the Joker, whose many interpretations so far have showcased the immense talent of the actors who brought him to life. Cesar Romero’s portrayal in the 1960s Batman television series marked the character’s first appearance, setting a playful yet sinister tone. However, it was Heath Ledger’s portrayal in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight that truly redefined the role. Ledger’s depiction of the Joker as a symbol of chaos and anarchy resonated deeply with audiences and left an indelible mark.

For Late Night with the Devil star David Dastmalchian, all roads lead to and from Christopher Nolan.
In 2007, Dastmalchian was a struggling local theater actor in Chicago, and when Nolan’s The Dark Knight set up shop in the Windy City, he went through a circuitous casting process before eventually landing a part in his very first feature film. Dastmalchian played Thomas Schiff, a paranoid schizophrenic and former Arkham Asylum inmate that Heath Ledger’s The Joker disguised as his fellow honor guardsman during their infiltration of Commissioner Loeb’s funeral procession. When gunshots rang out and chaos ensued, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) cornered Schiff in an ambulance and then forcefully interrogated him in another location.
14 years later, as Dastmalchian began to prepare for the role of the charismatic but troubled late-night talk show host Jack Delroy in Cameron and Colin Cairnes’ Late Night with the Devil, his greatest inspiration...

The feud between GTA maker Rockstar Games and Florida’s own version of Batman’s archnemesis, Lawrence Sullivan aka Florida Joker, appeared to have been settled for good. However, the debate was revived after Mr. Sullivan decided to upload a new video on his TikTok channel where he wants to “talk” to Rockstar, again.
It all began last year following the release of the company’s next installment of their flagship game. The man claimed that a character appearing in the trailer resembling his appearance had been inspired by his looks. Since then, Lawrence has been pursuing the feat of bringing home the bacon to take care of his mother as he explained in an interview.

Amid a couple of big date announcements, Warner Bros has delayed Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II into 2026 following challenges bought on by last year’s strikes.
We’re almost a year on from the beginning of the writers’ strike, the labour shutdown that pre-empted US actors also withdrawing their talents in one of the most contentious labour disputes ever to hit Hollywood. The writers would strike until September of last year, but in those five months of downed pens, quills and laptops, plenty of projects were significantly derailed.

Vera Drew is cementing her status as “The People’s Joker.”
The former “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson” editor directed, co-wrote, edited, and stars in the superhero-parody film that made waves at TIFF 2022 (where IndieWire saw it) before being acquired by Los Angeles-based distributor Altered Innocence in December 2023. Now, thanks in part to social media hashtag-campaign #FreethePeoplesJoker, “The People’s Joker” is indeed free for a North-American theatrical release.

Heath Ledger remains an unforgettable star in the hearts of fans. Initially known for teen heartthrob roles, he transitioned to diverse and challenging characters across genres. While his career featured many great performances, his iconic portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight stands out prominently.

When making The Dark Knight films, Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan had a pact that they would walk away if they were fortunate enough to make three films. The pair stayed true to this vision and concluded their Batman adventure after The Dark Knight Rises. But if Nolan were to make a potential fourth film in the series, one fan had the perfect villain and actor suggestion for the Oppenheimer director.

The fan made a concept trailer in 2012 with clips from previous films and chose The Riddler as the villain for the film. The fan’s choice of actor to play The Riddler was the Oscar-winning actor Casey Affleck. While the fan’s idea of a fourth film never came to fruition, it still has a lot of potential.

A new Batman animated film is in the works that introduces a new version of the caped crusader. The film, Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios a.k.a The Clash of the Empires, will feature an Aztec Batman who becomes the vigilante after his father dies during a Spanish inquisition. The film will be produced by WB Animation and DC.
Aztec Batman gives a cultural revamp to the characters that appear in the DC comics, taking popular characters such as the Joker and Harvey Dent and adapting them to suit the Aztec culture. Watch any American cartoons (and/or play some video games) made in the 2000s-2010s and you'll notice some familiar voices across the shows. One voice you're bound to hear is that of John Dimaggio.
Born and raised in New Jersey, with the accent to prove it, the 6'4 Dimaggio has a deep voice that's as imposing as his frame. Don't think that he lacks range, though. He can play lovable heroes (Jake the Dog in "Adventure Time" or Aquaman in "Batman: The Brave and the Bold") and tough guys who are more emotional than they let on (Marcus Fenix in "Gears of War" or the short-tempered humanoid tiger alien Rath in "Ben 10"). He's just as good at playing villains, if not more so due to his baritone. Dimaggio's bad guys range from serious bad news to incompetent comic relief (Dr. Drakken in "Kim Possible").

For the first time in more than 20 years, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has added a new category at the Oscars. Beginning with the 2026 ceremony, which will honor films released in 2025, the Academy Awards will include a category that honors the best achievement in casting, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The new category will be part of the 98th annual ceremony.
This is the first new category introduced to the Oscars since Best Animated Feature in 2002, which honored the films of 2001. That makes it a pretty big deal. The Casting Directors Branch of the organization was first formed in 2013. It currently has nearly 160 members. Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang had this to say about it in a joint statement:
"Casting directors play an essential role in filmmaking, and as the Academy evolves, we are proud to add casting to the disciplines that we recognize and celebrate.

Apple TV+ series “Masters of the Air” is the third collaboration from the team behind HBO’s “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.” Trio Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Steven Spielberg produced the nine-part World War II epic series, which spotlights the men who fought in the 8th Air Force, specifically the men of the 100th Bomb Group. The vivid and vital story finds roots in the book of the same name by Donald L. Miller.
The crew of a typical Eighth Air Force heavy bomber plane included ten men — a pilot and his co-pilot flying the B17, the navigator and the bombardier in the machine’s nose, the flight engineer behind the pilot, the radio operator, two waist gunners, a ball turret gunner and a tail gunner. Not to mention the men who strategized from the bases, the plane engineers and Tuskegee airmen or Royal Airforce pilots who feature in this story.

Superman: Legacy is still far off but filming is slated to begin this March. And so while the DC Universe begins its reboot under the “Gods and Monsters” label, there are many wishing the franchise luck. Some are even offering advice, as Jesse Eisenberg has done for the next Lex Luthor, Nicholas Hoult – and it might be about the best wisdom he can instill: “Don’t watch me!”
Both Eisenberg and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – wherein the actor played the Man of Steel’s arch nemesis – were heavily criticized upon release. Eisenberg in particular was blasted for going over-the-top and drawing too closely to Heath Ledger’s turn as The Joker. Still, despite this, Eisenberg still holds Lex Luthor close, saying at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, “Whenever you play a role you feel connected to it…There’s no way around it. Bethesda and MachineGames recently unveiled a long-awaited video game in the form of "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle." The legendary video game studio behind "Fallout" and "Skyrim" has been working on a game set within the action/adventure franchise for several years, with the game originally announced back in 2021. But now, we know much more including when the story takes place, what the player can expect, and, rather crucially, who is voicing Indiana Jones. It won't be Harrison Ford, but another icon has stepped up to fill those very big shoes.
Troy Baker will be the man tasked with bringing Indy to life in the much-anticipated game. Ford, for his part, left the role behind with his final turn as the character in last year's "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." Now, it falls to Baker, who will get to put his stamp on the hero during his classic era,...

Earlier this week, a new listing indicated that director Maggie Gyllenhaal was gearing up to begin production on a Bride of Frankenstein feature tentatively titled The Bride. The currently untitled Frankenstein lore movie, now confirmed under Warner Bros., is not only now official, per Deadline, but Annette Bening has joined the cast.
Bening adds to a cast that includes star Jessie Buckley, Penelope Cruz as the Bride, Christian Bale as Frankenstein, Peter Sarsgaard as a detective.
In the untitled Bride of Frankenstein film, “A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”
This confirms a period-set feature that will center around Frankenstein’s quest for love.
