Live.me is one of several apps that offers a social media service based around live streams. Many of its users are creators who release videos across the web, and with a new content, Live.me will look to make a deeper connection to that community. It has announced “The Next Top Broadcasters,” a competition that will offer $500,000 in short-term contracts to its winners.
The Next Top Broadcasters, or #Tntb for short, will begin on June 23rd, which is also the first day of VidCon. Starting on that day, creators who launch new Live.me accounts and begin streaming on the app will have the opportunity to earn virtual “diamonds” from their fans. By July 9th, the Live.me user who has earned the most diamonds will receive a one-month, $50,000 contract with Live.me. In order to reach the $500,000 total the contest promises, smaller contracts will be awarded to runners-up.

Earlier this year, we covered fitness powerhouse Beachbody's "YouTube test group," where a set of top online video creators - including Jack Douglass, Bart Baker, Olga Kay, and Shira Lazar - collectively dropped over 100 pounds and 85 inches by way of Tony Horton's P90 program. The before and after photos seemed too good to be true—commenters cried 'air brush' and 'spray tan.' So when we caught wind of a new class of YouTubers for Beachbody's 21 Day Fix Extreme program with trainer Autumn Calabrese, we had to get an inside look at the process to make sure it was legit.
The new group underwent back-to-back twenty-one day programs and featured Jennifer Veal, SourceFed stars Lee Newton and Steve Zaragoza, Timothy DeLaGhetto, Rick Carter, Shane Dawson, and yours truly. Now the last time I covered a story as an embedded journalist, I did a ridealong with the Good Cops, and things went horribly wrong.

On March 28th, Tough Mudder--a 10 to 12 mile obstacle course--will come to Los Angeles. Tough Mudder is more than just a demanding physical exercise; it's also a team building exercise and an opportunity for its participants to raise some money for charity.
Collective Digital Studio is sending some of its employees and creative partners to Tough Mudder, and it is taking the charitable part of the event very seriously. The digital media company known for its multi-channel network is using Tough Mudder as the focal point of a fundraising drive that supports Oasis of Hollywood.
In order to encourage donations, Cds has created an entire Tough Mudder team. Participants include network executives, such as Chairman Michael Green, CEO Reza Izad, and Chief Revenue Officer Scott Weller, but the "Cds Effect Tough Mudder Team" extends to the company's creative network as well. Pranksters FouseyTUBE and Dennis Roady will run the course, as will vlogger Jennifer Veal.

Currently, there are 871 YouTube channels with at least one million subscribers. In April 2009, though, there was just one: Fred. The YouTube home of Lucas Cruikshank's polarizing, screechy-voiced character was the first channel to ever achieve a seven-digit subscriber count. After becoming one of YouTube's first stars, Cruikshank became one of the first YouTubers to make it to TV when Fred: The Movie debuted on Nickelodeon. About two years ago, Cruikshank ceased regular updates on the Fred channel, and he began making videos on the Lucas and Jenny channel he launched with his friend Jennifer Veal. Recently, though, Fred has returned. After a fake launch involving a fictional Korean corporation, Fred himself came back to YouTube on August 28th. With YouTube's first million-subscriber man back in business, we figured it was time for a special edition of YouTube Millionaires. Here's what Cruikshank had to say about the past, present, and future of the Fred character.

Nickelodeon star Lucas Cruikshank discussed a serious matter in a lighthearted way on Tuesday (August 20). The 19-year-old revealed he is gay in a Q&A video with his best friend Jennifer Veal that he posted on Youtube.
Giggling throughout the entire goofy video, the two fielded random questions from fans until they addressed the many questions they get asking if Cruikshank is gay. He happily revealed that he is, adding to Veal, "Why don't you have to make a video saying you're straight?"
"I'm going to make one, I think," Veal jokes back.
The entire video is cute, fun, and truly inspiring in the way the matter was handled -- as if it wasn't a big deal at all.
"Now you all know that he likes boys and not me," Veal says as she ends the video.

In a Q&A video, Fred creator Lucas Cruikshank nonchalantly announced he is gay. The 19 year old comedic actor addressed his fans' collective speculation about his sexuality by stating, "I'm gay. I feel so weird saying it on camera. But my family and friends have known for like three years. I just haven't felt the need to announce it on the Internet." Cruikshank, whose hyperactive six year old alter ego was once the most popular character on YouTube, came out while fielding questions alongside his friend, Jennifer Veal, herself a TV actress on the Disney Channel's Jessie. While discussing his sexuality, Cruikshank used Veal as an example of our culture's double standards by asking her, "How come you don't have to make a video saying you're straight?" Fred, launched when Cruikshank was just 13 years old, was once the most subscribed channel on YouTube, but its star waned after it aired...

Add Lucas Cruikshank to the ranks of the out and proud. The star of Nickelodeon's Fred series has revealed that he is gay, opting to set the record straight in a comedic YouTube video in which he at first appeared to be engaging in an everyday Q&A with fans. "Let's get to the questions: First, why do you both look so pretty?" Cruikshank smiled alongside actress Jennifer Veal, of Disney Channel's Jessie, both of them tucked into bed for the Tuesday afternoon rap session. "I just don't know," Veal replied innocently. More light-hearted questions ensued and then, about 1:18 into the video, came the question: "Are you gay?!" "That's so...

In the question-and-answer YouTube video Ask Lucas and Jennifer, Lucas Cruikshank answered the question “are you gay?” with a big fat “yes.”
The YouTube and Nickelodeon star, best known for his character Fred, said he hasn’t felt the need to announce his sexuality on the internet. But his co-host Jennifer Veal (from Disney’s Jessie) points out that, since they post photos of them having sleepovers and doing facials, it probably should’ve been obvious.

YouTube star turned Nickelodeon actor Lucas Cruikshank, who is best known for creating the hyper-active, over-the-top character Fred Figglehorn, has revealed he is gay by posting a coming out video on -- where else -- YouTube.
Cruikshank, 19, came out during a question and answer session with pal, actress Jennifer Veal, telling fans "I'm gay."
The actor broke out in a fit of laughter and said, "It feels so weird saying it on camera."
"My family and friends have known for like three years, I just haven't felt the need to announce it on the Internet," he explained, adding that he felt "so awkward."
Though coming out was clearly something Cruikshank wanted to do publicly, he seemed slightly frustrated that he had to do it at all. At one point he turned to Veal and asked, "How come you didn't have to make a video saying you're straight?"

I almost feel silly for putting a breaking news strap on this post, but what can you do? Lucas Cruikshank, who shot to YouTube stardom via his hyperactive “Fred” persona, confirmed he’s gay Aug. 20 in his latest video. ”My family and friends have known for, like, three years,” he says in the video. “I just haven’t felt the need to announce it on the internet.”
(Nor should he have to.)
“When you first met me, did you know I was gay?” he asks his friend Jennifer Veal, to which she responds “yeah” without even a hint of hesitation.
Aside from his popularity on YouTube, Lucas also starred on the short-lived Nickelodeon sitcom Marvin Martian from 2012 to 2013. He reportedly left Nickelodeon in June 2013.
