“The Gray House,” the Kevin Costner-produced limited series about a female spy ring during the Civil War, will open Monaco’s 63rd annual Monte-Carlo Television Festival in June.
The six-episode limited series tells the hidden-history tale of four Southern women — a Virginia socialite and her mother, a formerly enslaved Black woman and a high-end prostitute — who served as key espionage agents for the Union. The foursome are credited as unsung heroes who helped end the nation’s brutal cleavage in 1865. Mary-Louise Parker, Amethyst Davis, Daisy Head and Ben Vereen lead the ensemble cast.
Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary produce through their Revelations Entertainment banner alongside Costner’s Territory Pictures and Big Dreams Entertainment from Republic Pictures. Paramount Global Content Distribution is handling distribution of the series but it’s not yet clear where “Gray House” will land in the U.S.

Kevin Costner is hoping a few years from now, moviegoers will have the opportunity to binge four Horizon movies in theaters.
“Maybe a year and a half, two years from now, they will come (to theaters) for 12 hours,” he told the assembled crowd of theater owners Tuesday at CinemaCon, where he teased his two-part Horizon films.
So far, only two of his planned four films have been made, he acknowledged, but he has two more scripts ready to go, should the risky film project he helped finance be successful.
“When I think about the promise of America, there was a promise out here, if you could go. If you were tough enough, if you were mean enough, if you were resourceful enough, if you were lucky enough, you could take what you wanted in America,” Costner said of the appeal of the American West. “That promise meant that we step...

Kevin Costner’s hugely ambitious western saga arrives this summer: here’s the new trailer, but no UK release yet.
Regular readers of this site may be already aware just how much I’m looking forward to the most ambitious Kevin Costner project in years. It’s Horizon: An American Saga, a series of four films that Costner is part-funding. Just as with his last directorial effort, the brilliant 2003 western Open Range, he’s independently funded the movie, and brought in distributors afterwards.
In the US, it’s New Line Cinema – and thus Warner Bros – that’s going to be releasing the first two films, both of which are coming out this summer. The first lands in June, the second lands in August, and both are getting US cinema releases.

Part one of “Horizon: An American Saga,” the multi-film Western epic that Kevin Costner left “Yellowstone” to make, will hit theaters on June 28, with part two to follow on August 16. Warner Bros. released a trailer for the two-part film on Monday.
The trailer promises a sprawling, colorful, violent Western film about Manifest Destiny. It’s about the settling of the titular town during the years of the Civil War, as the American frontier pushes westward and settlers come into conflict with the people indigenous to the land. “There’s no army on this Earth that are going to stop those wagons coming,” a Union Army officer played by Costner’s “Yellowstone” co-star Danny Huston warns in something like the trailer’s thesis statement.
Costner wrote the script for “Horizon” with Jon Baird, produces with Howard Kaplan and Mark Gillard, directs, and stars. It’s his first time directing a film since 2003’s “Open Range,...

Academy Award-winning visionary filmmaker Kevin Costner directs New Line Cinema’s vast “Horizon: An American Saga” Chapters One and Two, a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. Exclusive: A surprise project has emerged to whet the appetites of hungry international buyers at next week’s American Film Market: Kevin Costner’s big-budget Warner Bros Western Horizon: An American Saga.
The two-part project is being sold to international buyers by recently rebooted German-based sales firm K5 International.
Chapters 1 and 2 of Horizon have been set by New Line to open domestically in cinemas on June 28, 2024, and August 16, 2024, respectively. That strong theatrical commitment is something that will appeal to international buyers, and some we’ve spoken with are already enthused about getting a sighter at a big-budget movie from an Oscar winner like Costner, even if prices are inevitably high.
We hear that Costner himself will likely take a view on offers in major territories, which isn’t unusual for an A-list director-producer working on a passion project, especially given that he has reportedly put a chunk of his own money into it.

Kevin Costner is staking his claim.
The Oscar winning filmmaker’s western epic Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 and 2 will respectively open in cinemas on June 28, 2024 and Aug. 16, 2024.
The movie is being released by New Line. On June 28, currently there’s Paramount’s Mission: Impossible 8 and Sony’s Horrorscope, while on Aug. 16 next year there’s 20th Century Studios’ Alien reboot.
Horizon returns Costner to the Civil War backdrop he previously visited in his multi-Oscar-winning Dances With Wolves. The pic follows the 15-year span of pre- and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. Experienced through the eyes of many, the epic journey is fraught with peril and intrigue from the constant onslaught of natural elements, to the interactions with the indigenous peoples who lived on the land, and the determination and at many times ruthlessness of those who sought to settle it.

Kevin Costner’s next western epic is carving out real estate for next summer. The first two installments of the Yellowstone star’s Horizon: An American Saga will bow in June and August next year.
Warner Bros. has dated Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 for a June 28, 2024 theatrical release. It will be followed two months later by Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 2 on Aug. 16, 2024. A sequel being released such a short period of time after the first film is rare, but not unheard of. Most recently the horror films X and Pearl were both released in 2022.
According to Costner’s court filings during his recent divorce proceedings, he contributed at least $20 million to the budget of the saga, which is expected to span four films. With the dual strikes, production on the third chapter was put on hold, but the filming for the first two films is complete, with this second wrapping this summer.

With the 65th Berlin Film festival primed to kick off later this week, we can readily expect studio execs to offer up their movies in a bid to secure those all-important distribution rights. And of those attendees is Daniel Zelik Berk’s Damascus Cover, which recently tapped The Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers for the lead role.
Based on Howard Kaplan’s eponymous novel, the film will tell the true-life tale of a veteran spy (Rhys Meyers) who infiltrates a dangerous area in Syria in order to smuggle a chemical weapons scientist and his family out of the country. However, not all is what it seems after our protagonist partner is Awol before the mission can even begin, leaving Rhys Meyer’s character stranded and, in what is perhaps the movie’s most interesting sub-plot, caught in the midst of a possible conspiracy theory.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers will star in Damascus Cover.
The actor was announced for the Middle East spy thriller alongside a cast including Olivia Thirlby, John Hurt, Igal Naor and Navid Negahban.
Daniel Berk (Sometimes They Come Back... for More) will direct the film based on Howard Kaplan's 1977 novel.
The film is based on true events, and set in 1989 as the Berlin Wall falls.
It centres around a spy in Syria attempting to smuggle a chemical weapons scientist and his family out of the country.
"I'm enormously excited about this role," said Meyers.
"This was a hugely significant time in the conflict in the Middle East, post-Cold War and with the collapse of the Berlin Wall, when an amount of spies were redeployed to the Middle East, where the theatre of covert operations would now take precedence."
The actor will next be seen in Roland Emmerich's gay rights movie Stonewall.

It is obvious that Stephen Sommers has not yet filled out the list of actors for his new thriller Odd Thomas. It’s actually loaded with Gugu Mbatha-Raw for supporting role in a feature that is based on the adaptation of Dean Koontz’s best-seller novel.
As already announced Anton Yelchin is in the role of the hero, short-order cook who meets a mysterious man endowed with the capacity to communicate with the dark forces. Addison Timlin starring his girlfriend, whose best friend Viola is the character played by newcomer Mbatha-Raw. Timlin is going to be a waitress, which raises two young girls whose mother died of drug-related causes.
The actor who is engaged before Mbatha-Raw is slapstick comedian Patton Oswalt, and he joined in the role of eccentric artists. Scream 4 star Nico Tortorella and Willem Dafoe, an actor from Spider Man 2002 are also in negotiations to join the cast.

We have been hearing casting rumours since early-February when Anton Yelchin landed the title role in Odd Thomas, and emerging from a long list of young starlets is Lily Collins, who has read for, and been extended an offer to play the female lead. Collins, daughter of singer/songwriter Phil, beat out a stellar shortlist that included Kat Dennings, Emma Roberts, Addison Timlin and Portia Doubleday to play Stormy Llewellyn, the girlfriend of Yelchin’s Thomas. Stephen Sommers is directing the supernatural thriller from his own screenplay that’s based on Dean Koontz’s bestseller of the same name. Stephen Sommers, the man behind “G.I. Joe” (sigh) and the “Mummy” films (a slight Yay!), is bringing Dean Koontz’s “Odd Thomas” novels to the big screen. Sommers will co-write the script and direct the film, which already has a budget of $47 million to work with. How they know it’s going to be exactly $47 million, and not $50, or $40 is one of those things only smart people in Hollywood knows. Originally published by Koontz in 2003, “Odd Thomas” follows the titular character, a 20-year old fry cook in a small California town who can talk to the dead. Well, he can see and talk to them, but he can’t hear what they say back. A couple of people know his secret, including his girlfriend Stormy and the town’s Chief of Police, who also acts as a father figure for him. Sommers and Fusion Films’ Howard Kaplan and John Baldecchi will produce the adaptation.
