It’s been a long strange trip for native New Yorkers Dominick Filopei and Bo Pericic – and a few years since the duo more commonly known as Filo & Peri implanted club staples like “Long Train Running” and “Anthem” into the sonic sound banks of dance music aficionados. Having pumped out flurry of tunes under Armin van Buuren’s Armada and Paul van Dyk’s Vandit records, the duo is a familiar name to those in the know. But throw in a few curve balls, a beastly music business and some admitted inexperience, the duo decided to step back, re-evaluate and more importantly recalibrate. Now, after two years, the reinvented duo is back on course with a new plan of attack, a killer new single and a mindset to live by – "The road to success is never a straight line.”

Skrillex, Avicii, Duck Sauce, Swedish House Mafia and Robyn also contenders for Best Dance Recording at Sunday's show.

Kudos to the Academy. They've pretty much nailed it when it comes to the Grammy nominees in what's arguably the most-important dance-related category Sunday night: Best Dance Recording. In 2011, the U.S. Edm market saw an explosion the likes of which hadn't seen since the punk rock revolution back in the '90s, and those given the nod are a testament to its abounding success.
A category once graced by Madonna, Britney and Gaga is now overrun by the Prince of Dubstep, a monstrous mouse, a turntable whiz and his NYC cohort, three rock stars of house, a Frenchman with a Swedish prodigy and a girl who originally showed us love in the '90s. Each one of the nominees was not...

If the idea of having your eardrums explode and your chest crushed by disgustingly filthy riffs and thunderous bass lines turns you on, then we suggest you become quickly acquainted with Qulinez and their Scandinavian beast "Troll" , which will be released tomorrow, February 10.
Pronounced "Cool Lines," Swede's Johannes Gustafson and Alex Lager's exotic moniker has been plastered all over set lists from Arty to Pete Tong and everyone in between. Recently, the boys took some time away from the studio and their busy schedule to give MTV News a little insight in to who they are and just what they’re capable of.
“I grew up in a small town called Laholm, with my mom, dad and my sister,” Gustafason says. “I didn’t like the school time so much, because I wasn’t so interested in studying. I choose the music classes and that was the best part of the school.

Fedde Le Grand

A course in Fedde Le Grand 101 would have to include the hit "Put Your Hands up for Detroit" and a track that proved to be dance-floor gold for the Dutch DJ/producer, 2007's "Let Me Think About It." But Le Grand loyalists know that he scored those smashes while appeasing the underground with bombs like "Amplifier" and "Control Room." Now, he's bringing that particular alchemy to his "Dark Light Sessions," a new show on Sirius Xm's Electric Area.
MTV News recently caught up with the Flamingo Recordings founder, and he talked about the kickoff of "Sessions" last November. Le Grand also opened up about his big 2011, detailing how he'll top himself in the months to come.

After a mesmerizing year for electronic dance music, it almost goes without saying that the genre will continue to blaze a trail Stateside in 2012. Acts from Skrillex to Kaskade enjoyed crossover success in 2011, and now fans are hungry for more new releases, killer albums and massive festivals.
But while it may be clear who's leading the charge, there are more than a few Edm upstarts who've been making noise, and if one thing is for certain, it's that they'll be shaping the musical landscape in the months to come. In MTV News' Rookie Roll Call, we break down exactly which acts (some greener than others) we've got our eye on as the dance scene gets locked and loaded for another killer year.

But fear not, after months of cranking out thumping new jams at shows across the globe, club music's biggest trendsetters are ready to un-cage some serious beasts for your listening pleasure. Having recently premiered a track rumored to be titled "Inks" at the Msg show, Shm's arsenal consistently reflects cutting-edge sound while folding new talent into the mix via their individual production labels.

According to some, in one year there might not be any more fun things like this to blog about. Yes, the official countdown to whatever the Mayans say is looming asymptotically towards us finally here – and the good news is you’re not the only person who thinks the dudes running around the Mexican jungle with the pyramids and weird drawings may have been onto something.
You see, this conversation stems from when last we spoke with Swedish House Mafia's Axwell in person, back in March during Miami Music week. Our handy little "Magic 8 Ball" on-set provoked all sorts of interesting questions from many of Edm’s best. It helped Sofi and Moguai determine the success of their new record and predicted Deadmau5’s miraculous arrival into town.

It was one epic a weekend for the New York City dance scene, as Governors Island played host to tens of thousands of fans and over 75 DJ’s on three stages at the first ever Dance Here Now Festival. With a six-hour set by the legendary Paul van Dyk kicking off the festivities Friday and Fatboy Slim headlining on Saturday, the stage was set for the most anticipated acts of the weekend, Laidback Luke and Benny Benassi, who co-headlined Day 3.

"Electric Daisy is popping up in all of these other cities, Bonnaroo has got an Edm tent, and Coachella's tent is bigger every year. So it was just a matter of time before someone said,...

No car this holiday weekend? So you’re stuck in the city and can’t find your way down the shore or out to the island. Fear not. Instead of wasting away the days frying on your co-op’s sweltering rooftop listening to a senior’s book club yap while you’re daydreaming of a better life, why not join the 25,000 others who’ll be dancing their cares away right in your backyard? There’s still time to grab tickets and join in on inaugural Dance Here Now Festival. Pacha Nightclubs presents the first of its kind event on NYC’s Governors Island this weekend, July 1-4, bringing together world class acts, top notch sound and one hell of a view.

Moguai is quickly becoming one of the hottest names in dance music. Midway through his most-recent Stateside jaunt, "Lyve From America," the German DJ and producer will hit Sin City this weekend for a set at the Palms' Rain Nightclub on Saturday, followed by the granddaddy of them all: opening the Circuit Grounds stage on the final evening of the Electric Daisy Carnival on Sunday.
But it wasn't always club tunes and chart-topping success for the Mau5trap signee, born André Tegeler, who not long ago was on a path that was more likely to put him in the courtroom than the DJ booth.
"I was in Germany, studying for my law examination," he recalled recently in Miami. "But at that same time, I hit my first official German chart, so...

A few days have gone by since we last heard from U.K. electronic trio Dirty Vegas, but after a half-decade of seeming radio silence, the boys from Britain are back with their second studio album, Electric Love, released Tuesday on Om Records.
But the guys haven't been sitting on their thumbs all this time. In fact, recording for the new album began back in 2008, when their individual side projects were put on hold, and Paul Harris, Ben Harris (no relation) and Steve Smith decided it was time to return to the studio and get back into what brought them together in the first place.
"The recording was really the easy part," Smith told MTV News.

That's not to say that he's been off the radar — not by a long shot. In fact, Gold has been pumping out underground smashes for well over half a decade. It goes without saying that Gold's library is a trove of treasures just waiting to be explored, and anyone who hasn't listened to his catalog is in for a treat.
The humble Berlin native is taken back by the whirlwind of a year he's experienced.

After much anticipation, this Friday (April 22) marks the premiere of the long-awaited blog-house-inspired electronica documentary "The Electro Wars," which is streaming on Pitchfork. Directed by filmmaker Stephen Alex Vasquez, "The Electro Wars" is a commentary on the current state of dance music, and most notably the rise of electro-house and the other burgeoning subgenres in the States. Considering it's his first breakthrough film, the cast of characters Vasquez booked and level of access he was granted is impressive. Having started off as nothing more than a passionate fan with a very limited budget, it was no easy task for the indie filmmaker, who just two years ago could barely get into the clubs.
"Honestly, I didn't know what the hell I was doing," Vasquez admitted to MTV News. "I would tell [artists] I already had a bunch of people down: 'Oh, I already interviewed this guy, and this guy is coming up!

Today, the annually epic and newly relocated Electric Daisy Carnival announced its headliners for the now-three-day affair — scheduled for June 24-26. This year's mega-fest, which had in the past been held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, will journey across the desert and into the heart of Sin City, where it will be held for the first time at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Headlining on Friday, June 24, will be Tiësto, who recently blew away the crowd at Miami's Ultra Music Festival. Thousands of fans treated to sight and sound spectacular during trio's Miami Music Week 'One Night Stand.'

Miami — Swedish House Mafia attempted — and executed — a spectacle of mammoth proportions on Miami's South Beach shore on Saturday. With close to 15,000 masked fans checked in and hundreds of others watching and dancing alongside a massive tent, the house music super-group treated their fans to the nine-hour mini-festival that was "Masquerade Motel: One Night Stand."
While the three Swedes were the headliners, their supporting lineup alone was worth marveling over: A-Trak, Armand Van Helden, Max Vangeli, AN21, Dirty South, and Pete Tong (who also emceed the event) were among the big-name performers. But when it came time for Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso to take the stage, it was clear this show would be like no other Miami has seen.

Miami — It was another big night at Fontainebleau's Liv nightclub, where Miami's A-list once again turned out to champion one of dance music's best. After Laidback Luke's "Super You & Me" party featuring Skrillex on Wednesday night and an epic set by Swedish House Mafia's Axwell on Thursday, the room was redecorated and the stage was set to host a full night devoted to none other than Kaskade.
Kicking off his day with a surprise guest set at Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 Pool Party at the Surfcomber, Kaskade (born Ryan Raddon) arrived at Liv fully warmed up by the energetic bikini-clad crowd. The line stretched out into the street and the venue was jam-packed with diehard fans lucky enough to get on the right side of the velvet rope of one of Miami Music Week's biggest shows.

Axwell's takeover of Fountainebleu's Liv Nightclub on Thursday evening (March 24) was without question one of Miami Music Week's most massive shows. Wednesday night (March 23), that same venue played host to would be superheros and villains as Laidback Luke presented the Miami permutation of his renowned "Super You & Me" party. But just 24 hours later, Liv had been transformed into a sea of buttoned-down shirts and dresses that could give a man a serious case of whiplash.
With the likes of Tiësto, David Guetta and Sebastian Ingrosso present to party (as well as Adrian Lux, David Tort, Tinie Tempah and Cedric Gervias on the lineup), the energy in the club was simply electric. With what can only be described giant psychedelic sea urchins hanging from the rafters complimented by the magnificent in house lighting design and state-of-the-art sound system, Axwell's night was certainly one to remember.

Miami — Last night in Miami's downtown district, Above & Beyond threw their annual homage to trance with their massive Anjunabeats party, which this year was held at the Ice Palace for the first time. Having expanded into their new home from their usual venue Karu & Y, the Ice Palace offered a massive space for the enthused crowed to hear Jono and Paavo, two-thirds of the trance trio, spin a killer set.
Hitting the massive Led-wrapped stage after an invigorating set by the reunited duo Gabriel & Dresden, the crowd erupted as the trance legends dove right into it, opening with "The Taxi Driver" by Andrew Bayer.
Also highlighted in the first hour of Above & Beyond's set was "Beautiful World" featuring Dino, a new cut from fellow trance icon Tiësto, who collaborated with Mark Knight.

Miami Music Week is just around the corner, so you better be ready to party. Before you touch down on the South Florida shore, you've got to prepare. Whether this is your first time or your 10th, here are some tips that will help make your 2011 Miami Music Week one to remember.
Don't call it "Wmc," because it's not. The official Wmc took place last week, actually. In case you hadn't heard, things changed a bit this time around. Next week (March 22-27) is "Miami Music Week" or "Ultra Music Week," both are the acceptable terms that won't result in having people correct you all week.
Pack wisely. You'll be thrust into a non-stop partying vortex, so be prepared to be spontaneous. Just because you didn't plan to go to a certain type of event doesn't mean you won't end up at one. Daytime calls for bathing suits and flip-flops,...
