A major theater chain is coming very close to perfecting the worst possible way to watch a movie.
Cinépolis revealed plans to put a children’s playground in movie theaters. The first-of-its kind design in the U.S. (photo above) plops a 55-foot long and 25-foot high “play structure” inside the auditorium itself.
The first two “Cinépolis Junior” theaters will open this month in Southern California.

If you liked Sharktopus, Dinoshark and Shark Swarm, you’ll be excited to hear that the co-producers of those movies have formed a new production company. Stephen Niver and Robert James Roessel have formed Monster Machine and have already lined up a new slate of films, including Arachnaconda, Grizzligator, Sea Scorpions and Maneater Mountain.
Writers Matthew Chernov and David Rosiak have been hired to work on the scripts for these films and they are expected to be released on video, cable and VOD. Each film will have a budget of between $1-3 million and Arachnaconda is the first project moving forward. The film will be directed by and star Lou Diamond Phillips. Expect more information on these projects in the coming months.

On Saturday, June 25, the Second Annual Dead Flesh Feast Horror Film Festival will descend upon Los Angeles. Attendees will be treated to a full menu of feature films and shorts as well as actor and director panels and even a Corey Feldman appearance! Add to this a Goth comedian and a horror-themed game show, and you have yourself a full day of horrific entertainment.

Director Mike MendezMike Mendez is the director of The Convent and Gravedancers. He has won awards for his previous work The Convent and currently he is working on a film entitled Ov3rk!ll. The film is in the early phases, but shows a reality game show where thirty contests must battle a dozen+ killers for 50 million dollars. However, if you lose, you lose your life. It's time to see if your shorts and features made the cut - Shriekfest 2009, which runs October 1st-4th, 2009, has released the titles of those films that have made its 2009 Finalists list.
The judges must be busy with the long list of titles that have made it thus far. Included among them is a short film from some of our very own, "Thirsty", directed by Andrew Kasch, written by Joe Knetter, screenplay by David Rosiak, shot by Buz Wallick, and starring Joe Lynch and Tiffany Shepis. I've seen the film and it's a riot; let's hope the judges agree!

Never mind that silly rumored November release date. Lionsgate has announced a July 14th bow for their box office success, The Haunting in Connecticut.
DVD Active reports that the film will be available in an extended cut on both Blu-ray and DVD. Extra features are as follows:
