Since arriving on the scene around a decade ago, Batwoman has made quite the impact on the DC Universe and amassed a rather generous cult following. Having been handled by the likes of Greg Rucka, J.H. Williams III and Marc Andreyko, the adventures of Kate Kane have explored the darker side of Gotham City, often dealing with supernatural and occult related elements.
So, even though she plays a vital role in the current run of Detective Comics, her devoted followers have been clamoring for another solo series ever since the last one came to an abrupt end a few years back. And, most fortunate for them, another volume kicked off earlier this year. While not contradicting what’s been established in ‘Tec, the new series has found the right balance between the tone set by the aforementioned title and the spookier stuff that we’ve just come to expect from tales starring the Batwoman.

If anything, September will be an important month for Marvel because, if all goes according to plan, they’ll be just about ready to put their currently in progress crossover event, Secret Empire, behind them and poised to move forward with whatever their next major initiative may be. And while we haven’t been in contact with any flies on the walls over at the House of Ideas, we’re pretty sure the Marvel Legacy one-shot is the vanguard.
First, let’s talk a bit about Secret Empire because that seems like the logical thing to do. Not long ago, it was revealed that a tenth issue would be added to the limited series, something not unheard of when it comes to major events – especially those from Marvel. And although this would seem like a definitive end to the story, there where rumors swirling that an eleventh wasn’t out of the question.
From what we can tell, that’s not going to happen, but an epilogue of sorts in Secret Empire Omega #1 has been announced. Upon examining the solicitation below, it quickly becomes apparent that this will likely be an essential read given that it retains the very same creative team that worked on the mainline series itself.

Secret Empire Aftermath!
• Hydra has fallen, but the world is still not secure! As the heroes of the Marvel Universe stir from the wreckage of the battlefield, the inevitable rebuilding must begin.
• However, one question hangs in the air over the proceedings: What redemption can there be for Captain America?
40 Pgs./Rated T+ …$4.99
Should that meet its targeted September release – which may be a feat, especially when you consider that Secret Empire #6 has been delayed until July 19 – that’ll smoothly transition into the all important Marvel Legacy #1 (solicitation below). So, if the publisher does allow it to ship before Secret Empire concludes, we can only hope that it doesn’t completely spoil the crossover’s ending. But, then again, let’s not forget this is the same lot that released Who Will Wield The Shield? before Captain America: Reborn wrapped.

Since we are all up to our eyeballs in Captain America: Civil War news and clips and interviews and reviews, I thought it was time for something entirely different: variant covers for Marvel’s upcoming event series Civil War II. One of these showed up in my twitter feed, and some sleuthing turned up a whole series over at Comicosity. Each issue of the big event series will also have a variant cover by Michael Cho, and the variants will also be available as lithographs.
Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso says of the series, “If anyone proves that ‘less is more,’ it’s Michael Cho. Rest assured that not a single brushstroke will be wasted in any of his propaganda-influenced Civil War II covers, each of them a call to arms. Who’s side are you on?”
Civil War II involves an Inhuman who is able to predict future crimes.

I have a series of Marvel Comics variant cover art for you to check out today by artist Michael Cho. They feature several different superheroes and superhero teams in a very bold and vibrant style. The art kind of has a retro pulp feel to it. These would make a great poster set for a home or office.

To start this review off with a little bit of colour (ahem), I was going to add some background info on Batman: Black & White’s history. What it is and how it came to be, that sort of thing. However, I sincerely doubt that there is anyone reading this who doesn’t already know that stuff, so I’ll skip it and get straight to the review. If you are interested in learning more, then have a look Here. I’ll wait…
DC has made a Really strong start with this one. In fact, this debut issue is so cool that I’ve taken to keeping my copy in the freezer (Note: this is not actually true). This first issue of the relaunched B&W is a comic that just oozes quality and charm.

Beginning in September, DC Comics will roll out out the red carpet for the return of their critically acclaimed “Batman Black and White” series, where fans can look forward to six new issues in the collection. Originally published in 1996, DC’s Eisner-nominated “Black and White” anthology began as a four issue miniseries that went on to inspire a wide array of similarly-styled backup stories and a very successful line of high-end statues based on series’ artwork.
The original series featured several notable contributors that included Jim Lee, Bruce Timm, Joe Kubert, Neil Gaiman, Walter Simonson, Richard Corben, Kent Williams, Brian Bolland and many more. The upcoming mini-series will continue that tradition by bringing on such talents as Chip Kidd, Neal Adams, Sean Murphy, Chris Samnee, Michael Cho, Joe Quinones and more for the first issue set to arrive in September.

Today's awesome piece of Geek Art comes from artist Michael Cho and it's called The Adventures of Superboy. Here's a note from the artist...
This is a cover image I painted for a hard-cover collection of 1940's Superboy stories published by DC, which should be out on comic shop shelves very soon. It was a fun assignment, and gave me the opportunity to draw a light-hearted super hero image. I even got to put in a puppy.
I really love the classic Americana look and feel of this poster. What are your thoughts.

World news, TV events and movies took a back seat in Comics Twitterverse discussions this morning, thanks to Wacom's new Inkling device that keeps track of paper doodles and transfers them to digital files. It was definitely the hot topic of the last few hours.
As of posting time, however, Chris Samnee was beginning to make some waves as well (congratulations to him, by the way!).
Meanwhile, the most movie-relevant comment of the day came from Eric Powell. For those of you still itching with excitement about the "Goon" movie, it sounds like you've still got plenty of waiting left to do. His quick update and more made the retweet list down below.

Comic creator tweets are fun to follow during Comic-Con International week, because they tend to keep appearing all night long. From pictures of run-ins between Stan Lee and Taylor Lautner to hang-outs with "A Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin, the feed was loaded with fun this morning.
It's also a great week to watch for art posts. Take, for example, a really awesome Jon Snow portrait posted by Michael Cho. Check out his link, some on-stage panel shots and some words from Simon Fraser on the passing of artist Lucian Freud.

The Twitterspere has been wrestling with some big changes this week. If DC Comics' big reboot wasn't enough to tweet about, Shaq hopped onto trending lists last night by announcing his retirement from the NBA.
Michael Cho is going to miss Shaq's quotes, and just about everyone who's ever touched a comic continues to have an opinion on where DC should take it's revamped universe in August. Erik Larsen's recommendation, Brian Lynch's hopes and Simon Spurrier's fears for "Game of Thrones" made this morning mix list of tweets.

This summer's comic book movie roster already promised to be a good one, but early buzz on "X-Men: First Class" seems to be getting better and better. That's more than can be said for the 3-D films in the minds of the comics folks in our feed. Even David Slade is bashing the medium.
Brian Michael Bendis, meanwhile, just wants his movies to have an infected zone somewhere in the plot. His explanation, a description of Tony Harris' new Starman tattoo and a "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" trailer reaction all made the rundown this morning.

The Twitter hive mind overflowed with knowledge and tasty trivia bits this morning. For starters, Jon Favreau got a look at Damon Lindelof's "Lost" hatch turned coffee table. He didn't post a picture, but a quick Google search turned up a blogger who did photograph the famous prop.
In gaming, "L.A. Noire" turned out to be the big topic of the week. Kieron Gillen's been trying to get "Witcher 2" to load, though. We wish him luck.

Thus far, the movie has the approval of Kevin Smith, Neil Kleid and Rob Liefeld. Geoff Johns hopes you caught a specific Easter egg that was thrown in, and Paul Azaceta and Brian Denham have some reservations. Check out who shares your opinions below, and if you don't have any yet, it's probably high time that you viewed the new clips from Martin Campbell's film for yourself.

If you're worried about Jon Favreau getting lonely while he's slaving away edition "Cowboys and Aliens" together, don't be. His tweets lately seem to indicate that he's had plenty of company with visitors like Guillermo del Toro and Edgar Wright. Plenty of other faces in our feed could have used some company last night, however; with Prop 19 failing in California and lots of incumbent candidates in elections across the U.S. getting the boot, there was a lot to react to last night.
Meanwhile, if you need something to react to right now, I highly recommend some Hulk art that Philip Tan posted and some Supergirl pencils that Jamal Igle happened to have sitting around. Check them out after the jump along with Michael Cho's assessment of "Captain America: The First Avenger."
