One day after Bob Iger faced questions about Disney’s competitive position vs. Universal in the Orlando theme park game, there came more information today about a significant expansion of Walt Disney World.
Michael Hundgen, Walt Disney World site portfolio executive, said the company’s Orlando resort is undergoing “probably the largest expansion ever at Magic Kingdom,” according to a piece by CNN.
Dubbed “Beyond Big Thunder,” the project is so named because it will expand the park into a swampy, wooded area behind the current Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at one corner of the property. See photo below.

A new rumor from X poster Scott Gustin seemingly indicates that Disney is filing permits for work behind the Magic Kingdom for a future expansion. It could also just be work in the area. But many are thinking Disney is going to try to start work on the “Beyond Thunder Mountain” area they teased at Destination D23 in 2022.
During that presentation, they teased areas for “Coco,” “Encanto,” and Disney Villains. Most people want to see Disney Villains, and with Epic Universe at Universal Orlando bringing the Dark Universe featuring Universal Monsters, it would be a great idea to compete head-to-head.
Currently, “Encanto” has been moved to the blue sky area, replacing Dinoland U.S.A. at Animal Kingdom, which is called Tropical Americas.
Oddly, they didn’t mention any of this yesterday when Disney CEO Bob Iger answered questions (that many feel were pre-recorded.) He was asked directly about what...

Mobile-friendly, short-form video platforms like Snapchat and Instagram are the way of the future, and Disney is making sure it gets a piece of that pie. The Mouse House has launched Disney Lol, on which it will share a plethora of its kid-friendly videos.
The videos featured on Disney Lol come from the media giants owned and operated properties, including its TV channels, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. The app will also share gifs and Vines with its young users.
The keyword in that last paragraph is young. In a media landscape saturated with mobile video apps, Disney is selling Lol on the guarantee that all of the content it features will be kid-safe and family-friendly. YouTube’s Kids app kids offered similar promises, though some watchdog groups have questioned whether the videos available there are 100% appropriate for children.
