Netflix Germany unveiled a pair of feature films, including Wiedemann & Berg title Brick, true-crime docs and a reality competition series this evening at a showcase in Berlin.
The sizeable slate announcement, which comes a day before a similar UK event, is notable given that Germany’s TV producers have seen the likes of Sky Deutschland pull out of originals and Paramount+ changing direction in their local production efforts.
Among the new titles is feature Brick (working title), which is currently being filmed and stars the likes of Matthias Schweighöfer, Ruby O. Fee and Frederick Lau. Slated to launch in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (Dach) in 2025, the film follows a couple, Tim and Olivia, whose apartment building suddenly surrounded by a mysterious brick wall. They are forced to work with their neighbors to find a way out.

In one of the biggest swings in Europe’s market, Erik Barmack, the former Netflix VP of international originals, is teaming with Benjamin Munz, producer of “Blood Red Sky,” Netflix’s most-watched non-English movie of all time, on a tentpole high-speed German action film, “The Chase.”
Billed by Barmack as “‘The Fast and the Furious’ meets ‘Money Heist’” – which he helped bring to Netflix – “The Chase” marks the first movie out of the gate at Munz’s Berlin-based new label, Fright Zone, the first production company in Germany that will focus exclusively on developing and producing fantasy, action, horror and science fiction films as well as TV shows in and from Germany.
Overseen by founder and CEO Munz, Fright Zone will produce with Barmack, who is now working out of his own L.A. label, Wild Sheep Content, a company that he started with The Mediapro Studio, headed by Laura Fernández Espeso.

Creatures of the night co-workers and party-crashing mutant wasps invade home media next week with Scream Factory's respective Blu-ray releases of Bloodsucking Bastards and Stung, and we have clips and trailers from both high-definition horror films.
Bloodsucking Bastards Blu-ray: "An action-packed vampire comedy in the vein of Office Space and Shaun of the Dead, Bloodsucking Bastards stars Fran Kranz (Cabin in the Woods) as Evan Sanders, a dutiful and overworked employee stuck at a soul-killing corporation with his beautiful girlfriend, Amanda (Emma Fitzpatrick, Significant Mother), and his slacker best friend Tim (Joey Kern, Beneath). Evan's world begins to crumble when Amanda dumps him and his boss, Ted (Joel Murray, God Bless America), hands his coveted promotion to his nemesis Max (Pedro Pascal, Game of Thrones). But just when Evan's convinced that life couldn't bite any harder, his office mates start going through disturbing changes… and bodies begin to pile up.

Guests at the garden party in the upcoming creature feature, Stung, will have to replace their EpiPens with swords and flamethrowers if they want to survive the giants wasps from below that are featured in the film's first trailer. Also included in our latest video round-up is a boy next door with a creepy caretaker in John McNaughton's The Harvest, as well as Helen McCrory's tour of her character's eerily decorated mansion from the upcoming second season of Showtime's Penny Dreadful.

Getting stung by a wasp hurts, and it can be fatal for those who are allergic. But imagine if those tiny winged insects were seven feet tall—you would have to replace your EpiPen with a sword to stand a chance against a stinger that big. In Benni Diez’s Stung, two catering staffers and a group of garden partiers take on giant mutated wasps, and we have a look at the film’s new poster that’s eye-grabbing and eye-puncturing.
“Mrs. Perch, an elderly, wealthy lady from rural America, is throwing a fancy garden party at her remote country villa. Same procedure as every year – except this time her illegally imported plant fertilizer seeps into the ground. Subsequently, a local species of killer wasps that usually lay their eggs into other insects mutates into 7 ft tall predators. And the celebrating upper class company provides just the right kind of prey.

In a few weeks, the mutant wasp creature feature Stung will start its principal photography. Through a series of production video-blogs, producer Benjamin Munz and director Benni Diez plan to document the entire process for those who are interested. The first two blogs can be found on YouTube and we have posted them here. In the film itself, mayhem ensues when a garden party gets attacked by giant wasps. Matt O´Leary, Jessica Cook, Peter Stormare and Lance Henriksen star. A special effects test, released last year, was damn effective and reason enough to keep an eye on this film. Truth be told, at this point the two Bennies are only goofing around a bit in these blogs, but you actually do get a few peeks...
