There will be no second season for CBS’ True Lies. The network has canceled the reboot of James Cameron’s hit 1994 action comedy movie after one season. The news comes ahead of the show’s Season 1 finale on May 17.
The decision is not surprising. True Lies has not been able to find an audience, ranking as CBS’ lowest-rated scripted series of the season. Its ratings remained relatively steady, indicating a loyal core audience, but they stayed low.

CBS announced Monday that it will devote 25% of its script development budget to projects created or co-created by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (Bipoc) beginning with the 2021-2022 development season.
In addition, the network is also setting a target to have a minimum of 40% Bipoc representation in their writers’ rooms also beginning in 2021-2022. The goal is to increase that number to 50% the following season. The network has also committed to hiring additional Bipoc writers on some of their series for the upcoming 2020-2021 season.
“While steady progress has been made in recent years both in front of and behind the camera, change needs to happen faster, especially with creators and leadership roles on the shows,” said George Cheeks, president and CEO of the CBS Entertainment Group. “As a network with ambitions to be a unifier and an agent of change at this important time, these new initiatives will...

CBS’ head of casting Peter Golden is leaving the network, TheWrap has confirmed.
Golden’s departure is effective immediately, an individual with knowledge tells TheWrap.
In recent months, Golden’s name has come up in unflattering reports regarding the culture at CBS. Last week, Whitney Davis, a former CBS diversity executive, accused Golden of passing over minority actors in favor of white ones. “It is my opinion that Peter Golden doesn’t find minority performers to be as talented as white actors,” she said.
Golden denied that comment in a statement to TheWrap last week, saying: “The claims and innuendos made about me by Ms. Davis are categorically untrue.”

Variety first reported on Golden’s departure, adding that Golden’s ouster comes after “numerous” complaints were made against him by the casting department, including instances of verbal abuse.

CBS’ longtime Head of Casting Peter Golden has stepped down effective immediately, a network spokesman confirmed to Deadline. A respected veteran casting executive, he is leaving after 23 years at the network.
The move comes after Golden’s name became involved in several controversies surrounding CBS over the past few years related its diversity record and corporate culture.
For a couple of seasons, especially from 2016-2017, CBS was criticized over the lack of diversity in the lead casts of its new series. The issue came to a head after the network picked up new shows with all-male leads, the majority of them Caucasian, for two consecutive years. As part of the criticism, it was revealed that CBS’ casting department, led by Golden, consisted entirely of white executives.

Veteran exec Peter Golden is departing his longtime post as head of casting at CBS, Variety has learned. The move follows complaints to human resources about Golden’s behavior made by members of the CBS casting department. It also comes just months after Golden’s name surfaced in reporting on sexual-misconduct allegations against ousted CBS CEO Leslie Moonves, and fewer than two weeks after a former CBS executive wrote in Variety that Golden discouraged the casting of minority actors in CBS television shows.
To Variety‘s knowledge, none of the complaints made against Golden are related to sexual misconduct.
Sources tell Variety that in one Hr complaint, Golden was alleged to have complained to another member of the casting department that casting had become too thorny a process, and that he wished it could be as simple as it was when CBS cast “How I Met Your Mother” and the...

CBS has extended Joe Ianniello’s tenure as president and acting CEO for an additional six months, the company said on Tuesday. In addition, CBS’ Board of Directors determined it would suspend its search for another Chief Executive Officer.
The extension takes Ianniello through the rest of 2019.

Whitney Davis, a longtime CBS executive who left the company in February, has criticized CBS over its lack of diversity, detailing several specific examples of what she called racial discrimination and workplace misconduct.
She also criticized the independent investigation into the company’s workplace culture that followed accusations of sexual misconduct against former CEO Leslie Moonves, saying that investigators overlooked “systemic” racism and discrimination which she said she expected to change after the investigation.
“The company has a white problem across the board,” Davis said in an op-ed for Variety published Tuesday. “Did you know that there’s not one black creative executive working at CBS Television Network or CBS Television Studios?”

Last year, CBS hired two white-shoe law firms to conduct an independent investigation into alleged misconduct by then-ceo Leslie Moonves, as well as broader cultural issues at CBS. Writing for Variety, Whitney Davis — a veteran of the company’s news and entertainment divisions — describes how the investigation prompted her to reconsider her nearly decade-and-a-half career at CBS.
In February, I decided to part ways with CBS, the corporation where I began my media career and most recently served as director of entertainment diversity and inclusion. Last fall, when sexual-misconduct allegations against then-ceo Leslie Moonves prompted an outside investigation into the CBS workplace culture, I assumed that all forms of discrimination would be delved into. The attorneys I spoke with did not lead me to believe otherwise. I was eager to tell my story and grateful that two independent law firms were brought in to conduct interviews with several hundred employees.
