This year, several television shows have been canceled much to the chagrin of fans. Several of them were popular shows that still got good ratings. However, some of them also didn’t get proper endings. An example is CSI: Vegas, which will end with several cliffhangers. Another show this happened to was So Help Me Todd.
Fans have lashed out at the network about the show’s ending and here is what you need to know.
So Help Me Todd Ends Series With Cliffhanger
When CBS explained why it was canceling shows like Blue Bloods, the network said it needed to “freshen up” the schedule by adding new shows. That means some fan-favorite shows had to end. However, they also said that they wanted to allow the shows to end on notes that ended the stories.
That isn’t what happened all the time. CSI: Vegas is ending with cliffhangers...

With So Help Me Todd’s season 2 finale being aired the other day, it seems like it’s indeed time to say goodbye.
The show was canceled by its network CBS earlier in April causing a real outrage among fans who went further than just arguing in the social media and created a whole new petition demanding that So Help Me Todd be back on TV.
While the petition keeps its own run garnering more and more supporters every day, the series’ crew and main cast don’t seem to be that enthusiastic about their brain child's future.
Upon the final episode’s release on May 16, So Help Me Todd’s creator and actors took it to social media to express their disappointment over the show’s end that surely shouldn’t have come that early.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the So Help Me Todd series finale “The Tooth Is Out There.”] We were so close to finally seeing Merritt Folding! So Help Me Todd ended on a major cliffhanger: Todd (Skylar Astin), in his investigation into who was buying verdicts, discovers that Merritt Folding, the then-unseen partner at the firm, has framed Margaret (Marcia Gay Harden). And who should be stepping off the elevator in the final moments but Folding himself?! TV Insider caught up with creator Scott Prendergast, over email, to answer our burning questions after that finale and share what would’ve happened next. Talk about ending the season on Merritt Folding getting off the elevator. Was there already any casting or idea of what you wanted to see with that character onscreen? What did you want to do with bringing that character onscreen now and the effect of that on others like Margaret and Todd? Scott Prendergast:...

Spoiler Alert! This story contains details about the series finale of So Help Me Todd on CBS.
For the small but dedicated fanbase of the drama that stars Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin, it wasn’t a surprise that the two-year-old crime dramedy was ending for good on May 16.
What was a surprise was how it ended — with a maddening cliffhanger that involved the arrival of law firm partner Merritt Folding and how Margaret [Harden] was going to be fingered for shenanigans that she did not commit. That’s not exactly the way you want to leave things with viewers who are already smarting about the show’s cancelation.
Creator Scott Prendergast understands how painful that would be for fans and would like to offer some relief. Here, he explains why they ended on a cliffhanger and what would have happened if the series had returned for a third season.

While the media giants may have anticipated that the poor conditions and exploitation of film and television workers would cause uproar and discontent, they did not anticipate the magnitude of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that have kept writers and actors on the picket lines for more than half a year. And even now, six months later, the entertainment industry is feeling the fallout, especially the traditional broadcast networks. They have still not been able to fully restore their 2024 schedules.
The situation at CBS is particularly striking. After last year's drought in new scripted series, viewer demand for shows old and new is as strong as ever, leading to the renewal of popular projects and the announcement of many new ones.
And yet, along with the numerous positive updates, fans were also faced with the disappointing news that the fall season will not see the renewal of shows like CSI: Vegas,...

It's been nearly six months since the end of the unprecedented 2023 Hollywood labour disputes, which sent shockwaves through the entire entertainment industry with the suspension or cancellation of many popular and not-so-popular movies and TV series. Even now, however, the film and television industries do not seem to have fully recovered, as evidenced by distorted TV schedules, the shortening or bisection of new seasons of scripted shows, and sudden cancellations and renewals.
The case of CBS is particularly telling. While the network's flagship series such as Blue Bloods and Young Sheldon are in their final seasons, other projects are being actively renewed. Recently, CBS reversed its decision to cancel S.W.A.T. due to high ratings and picked up the police procedural for another season. The Good Wife spin-off Elsbeth has also been renewed for a second season.

In So Help Me Todd, the titular Todd (Skylar Astin) is a private investigator whose license was revoked.
He’s taken aboard his fastidious attorney mother’s (Marcia Gay Hardin) law firm and the two must navigate both the nature of the job and their relationship.

So Help Me Todd had a short but bright life – the story of a talented detective and his lawyer mother won the hearts of millions of viewers, but that did not stop CBS from canceling the show before Season 3.

What is Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist About?

The television world was shocked when word dropped that the CBS drama So Help Me Todd was canceled after two seasons on the network.
It was surprising because the series, while not the network's most-watched, was doing well in the ratings, and considering the state of broadcast television, a series averaging six million viewers in +7 ratings should be a lock for renewal.
But that wasn't the case, and it has us, as well as its ardent fans, seriously perplexed.
When any show gets canceled, there are various first reactions. Unfortunately, some shows have cancelation written all over them, while sometimes the news does catch people off guard.
So Help Me Todd falls into the latter, which could be a decision that haunts the Eye Network.

Both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas” have been canceled at CBS, Variety has learned.
“So Help Me Todd” is currently airing its second season at the broadcaster, while “CSI: Vegas” is airing its third. Both shows are scheduled to air their season finales in May, which will now serve as series finales.
The two shows were some of the few CBS shows awaiting words on their fates for next season. The only other CBS shows with pending renewal statuses are “The Equalizer” and “NCIS: Hawai’i.” They are both solid performers, with “So Help Me Todd” averaging 7.7 million viewers an episode in multiplatform Live+35 and “CSI: Vegas” averaging 7.6 million. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, CBS simply did not have enough room on the schedule to bring them back.
In addition to its many previously announced renewals, CBS already has a number of new shows set to debut next season.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.
That despite CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd being solid ratings performers. With the entire CBS schedule doing well this season and three new drama series joining in 2024-25, NCIS: Origins, Matlock and Watson (in addition to a second season of the Australian NCIS: Sydney), the network was faced with painful decisions, and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas are the least watched CBS drama series this spring in both linear and multi-platform ratings.
In most current linear Nielsen viewership (2/12 to date), CSI: Vegas, which improved its time period, is at #21 among all non-sports broadcast programs with 6.234M viewers and So Help Me Todd at #22 with 6.224M. That is more...

Streaming channels make headlines with mergers and syndication deals, but CBS has reached its level of network television success simply by maintaining a well-stocked lineup of scripted shows.
Boasting consistently high ratings, CBS proves there is indeed a large audience that tunes in for scripted television outside of streaming channels.

Skylar Astin is adorable, and Marcia Gay Harden is brilliant, and together, on So Help Me Todd Season 1, those two became an unbeatable duo.
From the outset, the show seemed to be, intentionally, a bit of a parody of itself. Part comedy, part procedural, and part slapstick.
Even the title is a bit tongue-in-cheek, and if you watched the promos for So Help Me Todd Season 2, it's evident that the writers relish the wordplay.
Throughout the first season and so far in the second, physical comedy is a staple: Margaret falls in the water when she visits Gus on his houseboat, Lawrence accidentally ingests psychedelic mushrooms in Episode 12, and Todd bears the physical effects of getting injected for a study.
The show is intentionally light-hearted and never takes itself too seriously, even when dealing with potentially serious consequences, as was felt on So Help Me Todd Season 1 Episode 18 when a bomber threatened the firm.

The photos from CBS’s So Help Me Todd season two episode two show Todd wearing a green dragon hand puppet while the synopsis teases something nefarious might be going on in the courthouse. Directed by Nick Gomez from a script by Jamie Pachino, episode two – “Your Day in Court” – will air on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 9pm Et/Pt.
So Help Me Todd kicked off its second season by expanding its audience by 9% over the season one finale. And the first episode of season two averaged 4.77 million viewers, 5% more than its first season average, proving the network was right when it renewed the primetime drama for its sophomore season.

Man, it's good to have So Help Me Todd back.
The CBS dramedy was a hit in its freshmen run, with viewers enthralled with the ongoing mischief between a mother and son who worked incredibly well together despite their constant bickering.

The So Help Me Todd Season 1 finale ended with quite the bang when Harry showed up after his Icelandic sabbatical, and with only a few days passing from that reveal to the events here, it was clear Margaret chose not to deal with any of it.
Instead, she was shacking up with Gus Easton, and I can't say I blame her.
The will-they/won't-they dynamic between Margaret and Gus was a highlight of the first season, especially...
