Oscar-nominated Mexican thesp Yalitza Aparicio (“Roma”) and Chile’s Daniela Vega, who starred in the Academy Award-winning 2017 drama “A Fantastic Woman,” have signed on to host a four-part documentary series about Latin American women who have survived state and gender violence, “Peace Peace Now Now,” which Vega has spearheaded and executive produces.
Aparicio, as the first indigenous Latina to be nominated for an acting performance and Vega, for her show-stopping role in the Oscar-winning drama “A Fantastic Woman,” have both been fierce advocates for the rights of the marginalized, the invisible.
Said Vega: “I’m thrilled to see how this project has evolved after two years in development. The characteristics and humanity of each host has enriched the stories of great women who defied wars and violence for years.” “It was an honor to meet them and bring their stories to the world,” she added.

Mexican actress-producer Kate del Castillo, already busy with a number of upcoming new series, including season three of Netflix’s “La Reina del Sur” and “Armas de Mujer,” a new dark comedy for NBCUniversal’s Peacock, is planning a docuseries about the wonders of tequila that will be shot in and around Jalisco and Guadalajara.
Speaking online for the Conecta Fiction Reboot confab on Tuesday, Del Castillo discussed her career and upcoming productions as well as the blossoming partnership between her Cholawood Productions and Endemol Shine Boomdog, the Mexico City-based division of Endemol Shine North America.
Del Castillo said she hoped to begin production this year on “Tequillando,” a reality format she described as “seven nights drinking tequila with Kate.”
“I will bring celebrities, not just actors but also sports stars, baseball players and scientists, from the United States and show them Guadalajara and Jalisco, where tequila is made.”

A breakout star in “Roma,” first-time actress Yalitza Aparicio went from small-town schoolteacher-in-training to snagging a lead role in director Alfonso Cuarón’s autobiographical movie about his formative years in Mexico. Aparicio plays Cleo, based on the director’s childhood nanny. “It’s kind of incredible that I’ve had this experience,” she says, “because not everybody starts this way.”
How did Alfonso find you?
He deployed a bunch of teams around Mexico to indigenous communities for casting calls. I happened to be lucky enough that one of those teams came to my hometown of Tlaxiaco, a very small town in Oaxaca. My sister found out about the casting call, and she dragged me along.
We’re told you were teaching school before “Roma.” Were you teaching right up to the point that you auditioned?

Kate del Castillo has confirmed that she received a warning from the Mexican government to halt production on a planned biopic about drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman. Investigative journalist Lydia Cacho said in a January interview with Univision that del Castillo told her she had received a message delivered by an actress friend on behalf of Mexico's interior secretary, Miguel Angel Osorio Chong. It said she should not make a film about Guzman and she should stop meddling. In a Wednesday interview with CNN en Espanol's Carmen Aristegui, del Castillo called the message "kind of intimidating," but she
