It’s here, the newest Netflix thriller adapted from one of Harlan Coben’s ludicrously twist-packed, secret-filled crime mystery novels. This one comes adapted by Danny Brocklehurst with the same UK team that made The Five, Safe, The Stranger and Stay Close, and once again stars Richard Armitage in a central role.
Fool Me Once is the story of military helicopter pilot Maya Stern, a captain who loses her career in a scandal and suffers two bereavements in short succession. It’s fast-paced, kind of ridiculous viewing that takes you down an extremely twisty path before tying everything up in a big not-exactly-watertight-but-it’ll-do-fine knot – which makes it pretty perfect viewing for a brain-fogged New Year’s Day after all of December’s indulgences.
Find out more about the cast of this one below, and happy binge-watching!

It’s final. There will be no second season for Walker Independence. Efforts to find a new home for the CBS Studios-produced Walker spinoff were unsuccessful following cancellation by the CW, sources have confirmed to Deadline.
Executive producer Jared Padalecki earlier told Deadline’s sister site TVLine, which first reported the show would not be moving elsewhere, that they were “aggressively looking for a place that Walker Independence could land,” but ultimately came up short.

Walker: Independence will not be getting a reprieve following its cancellation at The CW.
When the Walker spinoff got canceled in May, there were efforts to find a new home for the drama series.
TV Line reported Friday that producers had exhausted all avenues, and the show will not be returning in any capacity.
It's a tough blow for fans of the drama series, but at least we know that there was a push to get more episodes from the cast and creatives.
"We are aggressively looking for a place that Walker Independence can land," Padalecki told TV Line in May after the cancellation.
"I think it's a show that's needed. We absolutely are thrilled about the show, proud of the show, and we all feel like it belongs somewhere people can see it."
Walker: Independence would have been a lock for renewal any other season.

Katherine McNamara is opening up about the cancellation of Walker Independence. The CW opted not to renew the show after one season and the star of the series recently talked about how she found out.
“I found out, you know, one of the showrunners and one of the producers called me, and you know, obviously it’s not, it’s not the call we want to get,” McNamara said during an appearance on The Wayne Ayers Podcast (via Just Jared). “It’s not the news we wanted to hear, but I think the show and the story will always have a special place in all of our hearts.”
McNamara played the role of Abby Walker in the series set in the 1800s. The premise of the show revolved around her character after her husband is murdered before her eyes while on a journey to the West.

After The CW renewed Walker for a shortened fourth season, it was inevitable the news would not be good for the prequel series Walker: Independence.
The network officially canceled Walker: Independence Tuesday night, months after the freshman season was capped at 13 episodes.
Admittedly, interest in Walker: Independence paled compared to the original series, but the numbers were still substantial -- by CW standards.
With a week of DVR viewing factored in, Walker: Independence Season 1 averaged just under one million viewers and a 0.1 rating in the demo.
It ranked as the network's #4 most-watched series among total viewers, which was a decent metric.
Set in the late 1800s, the series followed Abby Walker, an affluent and tough-minded Bostonian whose husband was murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West.

In years past, The CW was a little trigger-happy with renewals, but now that Nexstar Media Group has a majority stake in the company… those days are gone. While we have seen many CW shows get the axe over the past year, some have continued, including Jared Padalecki’s reimagining of Walker, Texas Ranger. The CW announced today that Walker has been renewed for season 4 but with a decreased episode count.
Walker season 4 will consist of 13 episodes, placing it behind seasons 1 and 3, which had 18, and season 2, which had 20. “I’m so excited and grateful to continue the ‘Walker’ legacy for another season alongside our partners at CBS Studios and The CW,” Jared Padalecki said in a statement. “We can’t wait to make Season 4 bigger and better than ever and to lasso even more fans into the ‘Walker’ family. The CW has canceled Walker prequel Walker Independence after one season.
The move, which was expected, follows the CW’s renewal of mothership series Walker earlier today.
The bulk of the CW’s existing scripted series will be canceled this week as the network is transitioning to a new business model of lower-cost scripted programming in pursuit of profitability. While Walker is the CW’s most watched series, Walker: Independence was in the middle of the pack ratings-wise.

The Texas town of Independence may just be starting out, but this new 1800s-set Walker prequel, Walker Independence, already has its own Butch and Sundance in bad-boy thief Hoyt Rawlins (Matt Barr) and stoic Apache scout Calian (Justin Johnson Cortez). “They actually make a pretty damn good team,” notes Barr of the unlikely and often at-odds duo who have been helping widowed Abby Walker (Katherine McNamara) catch her husband’s killer. They prove it again in the latest episode, on another Wild West adventure. In the nearby Angel Springs, outlaws keep attacking the whiskey shipments. The residents recruit Hoyt — who had posed as a preacher and swindled the innocent townsfolk out of money in the past — to help. “In order to beat the bandits, they find themselves the best bandit in town,” quips Barr, adding that the charismatic rascal was, ironically, kind of missed. “The stories Hoyt was telling moved these people.

Katherine McNamara is no stranger to worlds far removed from our reality, having starred in sci-fi fantasy series “Arrow” from The CW and Freeform’s “Shadowhunters.” Her role in “Walker: Independence,” the 1870s-set prequel series to The CW’s “Walker” starring Jared Padalecki, is akin to her previous portrayals — in heart and strength — even if she’s trading leather jackets for corset dresses.
“Abby is very much a woman who has agency in a time when a lot of women didn’t,” McNamara told TheWrap in an interview, “and a woman who’s thrust into a situation she wasn’t prepared for and into a world that she knows nothing about and has to find her way and make a family and build something out of a tragedy.”

The apple truly doesn’t fall far from the Hoyt Rawlins tree on Walker Independence.
In the prequel spinoff (premiering this Thursday at 9/8c on The CW), Matt Barr stars as a charismatic outlaw who crosses paths with Katherine McNamara’s Abby Walker in the 1800s Western frontier town of Independence, Texas. The CW’s Walker prequel, Walker Independence, is set to premiere on October 6, 2022 at 9pm Et/Pt. The new series takes place in the 1800s but shares a character – and actor – with the original show. Matt Barr stars in Walker Independence as Hoyt Rawlins, an ancestor of the Hoyt Rawlins he plays in Walker.
Speaking to TVLine, Barr described his Walker Independence character as made of the same DNA and heart as Walker‘s Hoyt. “But [Walker‘s] Hoyt was more of a talker, and this guy is a man of action. He’s a little more dangerous,” said Barr.
Katherine McNamara stars as Abby Walker, Justin Johnson Cortez plays Calian, and Katie Findlay is Kate Carver. Lawrence Kao is Kai, Philemon Chambers stars as Augustus, and Greg Hovanessian is Sheriff Tom Davidson.
Season one episode one was written by Seamus Kevin Fahey and directed by Larry Teng.

With two seasons of success under its gun belt, Jared Padalecki’s contemporary drama Walker now births this 1800s-set prequel series exploring the Texas Ranger’s Lone Star State roots. But don’t expect a dusty tale of dysentery and unhappy home-steading. “We’re interested in a modern twist on [the classic Western],” says Anna Fricke, who executive produces Walker Independence with Padalecki and show creator Seamus Kevin Fahey. “Something unexpected and subversive.” Like, say, presenting the origin story from a female perspective? Brian Bowen Smith/The CW “That is why I was so attracted to this project,” raves Arrow’s Katherine McNamara. Abby Walker is a forward-thinking Bostonian whose “life goes up in flames” in the first scene: Her lawman husband is murdered on the trail to the burgeoning town of Independence, where he was to be the new sheriff. Rescued by a local Indigenous tribe, Abby makes her way there, and...

The CW has ordered the “Supernatural” prequel “The Winchesters,” the “Walker” prequel “Walker: Independence,” and “Gotham Knights” to series.
The three shows were the only pilots The CW had ordered this year. All three one-hour dramas feature a connection to “Supernatural.” Jensen Ackles narrates and executive produces “The Winchesters,” Jared Padalecki executive produces “Walker: Independence,” and “Gotham Knights” stars Misha Collins as Harvey Dent. “Gotham Knights” is also a new DC series for The CW after the network recently canceled “Batwoman,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” and “Naomi.”
In “Gotham Knights,” In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son (Oscar Morgan) forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. The CW has ordered to series all three of its pilots: DC Comics-based Gotham Knights, Walker: Independence and The Winchesters.
All three are based on underlying IP: Supernatural prequel The Winchesters, Walker origin story Walker: Independence and Gotham Knights. Because of their pedigree, solid execution and the fact that this is half the number of pilots the CW has normally picked up over the past decade, all had been major contenders from the start.
2022 The CW Pilots & Series Orders
The Winchesters is said to be the strongest attempt at a Supernatural spinoff to date; it is the first to go to series. Katherine McNamara, best known for playing Mia Smoak / Blackstar in the superhero series Arrow, is to star opposite Matt Barr in The CW‘s upcoming pilot Walker: Independence. According to Deadline, McNamara will play Abby Walker, a tough-minded woman from Boston’s high society who moves across the country to start a new life with her husband. But when her husband is murdered, Abby is left to wander the West alone until she bumps into Hoyt Rawlins (Barr), a lovable rogue searching for purpose. If the character names sound familiar, that’s because they share names (and an actor in Hoyt’s case) with characters in The CW’s western-drama Walker. Barr stars in a recurring role as Hoyt Rawlins in the present-day set Walker, while Abeline Walker is portrayed by Molly Hagan. However, it’s not yet known how the 1800s Abby and Hoyt are related to the Walker characters.
