After directing the Oscar-nominated “Rbg,” Cohen and West traveled to France to talk with chefs and contemporaries of Child from her days of training at Le Cordon Bleu before becoming a TV star with “The French Chef.” In an interview with TheWrap’s Sharon Waxman at the Toronto International Film Festival, Cohen and West discussed how Covid-19 hit right as they finished filming and how the experience of editing the film under quarantine deepened their appreciation for both Child and French cuisine.
“I don’t think we saw each other face-to-face for months but we talked every day on Zoom. We were just working away on various...

Some thirty years ago, I broke my left ankle in three places and was laid up for a while as it healed. It was around this time of year and it was a real harsh winter; I didn’t venture outside much because of the ice; crutches and a cast don’t lend themselves to walking on ice. I watched TV a lot, especially daytime TV. I was not then and am not now a fan of soap operas so I would find game shows and reruns to while away the hours. I became obsessive about some of them, especially reruns of Happy Days. I never said it was good TV, just compulsive.
These days, as I recover from my triple by-pass, I’m also into watching some daytime TV and my current obsessive show is ABC’s The Chew, which airs five days a week. The show is a...

The 138th Kentucky Derby is being run Saturday, May 5 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky, which means thousands of people will be on hand to wear big hats, bet on their favorites and of course drink mint juleps.
We've rounded up a few different mint julep recipes from celebrity chefs Alton Brown, Rachael Ray and Sara Moulton (whose recipe comes courtesy of Bill Samuels, president of Maker's Mark). The recipes range from very simple to a fairly complex one from Mr. Samuels, which we are dying to try. Also check out Rachael Ray's mint julep melon bites recipe at the bottom.
Really the key is two-fold - good bourbon and mint. And don't just go with any old whiskey that you grab off the shelf. Spring for some true Kentucky bourbon. We're partial to Buffalo Trace for the more inexpensive ones, Pappy Van Winkle 15 if we're feeling saucy.
