The announcement was made on the occasion of its second meeting of the year between the Fih and its President, Tayyab Ikram, in attendance of International Olympic Committee (Ioc) President Thomas Bach.
The comprehensive plan, announced after the meeting held at the Olympic House in Lausanne, follows the programme that Tayyab Ikram announced at the start of his mandate in November last year and confirmed at the Fih Executive Board meeting in January.

New Delhi, Jan 25 (Ians) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has emphasised that “Russian athletes should not take part in Paris Olympics 2024” during his phone call with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.
“I particularly emphasised that athletes from Russia should have no place at the Olympic Games in Paris,” Zelensky wrote on his telegram channel on Tuesday.
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, launched in February last year, the International Olympic Committee Executive Board had recommended that international sports federations and sports event organisers not invite or allow the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in international competitions adding that Russian or Belarusian nationals should be accepted only as neutral athletes or neutral teams.
Since then, no international tournaments have taken place in Russia. The Ioc Eb also urged the International Sports Federations and organisers of sports events worldwide to ensure that no athlete or sports official from Russia or...

Warner Bros Discovery and the European Broadcasting Union have won the auction for Olympic Games broadcasting rights between 2026 and 2032.
Following a competitive tender put out by the International Olympic Committee (Ioc), the pair’s joint bid was successful and will take the rights in 49 territories.
This covers the Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortino in 2026, the Olympic Games in L.A. in 2028, the Winter Olympics of 2030 and the Brisbane Olympics in 2032, along with the Youth Olympic Games during the six-year period.
Wbd, in its previous guise as Discovery, first won the rights to the rights to the Games in 2015 in a €1.3Bn (1.4Bn) deal struck through subsidiary Eurosports for the 2018-2024 period. It then broadcasted or sub-licensed those rights across the continent.
The deal guarantees the Games will remain free-to-air across Europe, ensuring every Ebu member gets more than 200 hours of coverage of the Olympics and 100 hours of the Winter Olympics across TV,...

Following a secret joint bid from Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd) and the European Broadcasting Union (Ebu), the broadcasting rights for the next Olympic Games cycle are set to be shared between the two media companies.
The new rights agreement covers the 2026-2032 period, which includes the 2026 winter games in Italy and the 2028 summer games in L.A. It does not include the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The news comes following uneven free-to-air coverage of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 (which took place in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic) after Discovery Communications, as the company was still called pre-merger, purchased the European rights to the games for its network EuroSport for €1.3 billion (1.5 billion).

The Vatican, Sep 30 (Ians) The International Olympic Committee (Ioc) has joined several major sports and intergovernmental organisations in signing a new declaration to foster inclusion and access to sport for all during the two-day International Summit on Sport, that ended at the Vatican on Friday.
Recent times have seen the emergence of new challenges for societies, many of them accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Declaration recognises the important role that sport plays in turning these challenges into opportunities and most notably in contributing to a more inclusive society, in which every person is accepted and welcomed, regardless of ability or disability. The Declaration is a new commitment to promote the social and inclusive benefits of sport.
On the sidelines of the Summit, Ioc President Thomas Bach and Pope Francis held a meeting that came together on September 29 and 30, discussing the contribution of sport to solidarity and peace around the world.

Lausanne, Aug 27 (Ians) India’s ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has said when he was forced to skip the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham due to a groin injury, he felt it was the end of his competitive season, but after the rehab in Germany he had the confidence to come back and compete in the Diamond League in Lausanne.
The Olympic Games gold medallist also said it was a matter of time before he breaches the 90-metre mark in competition.
Chopra on Friday finished first at the Lausanne Diamond League, becoming the first Indian to clinch the top spot in a Diamond League meet, after registering an 89.08m throw in his first attempt. In the Stockholm Diamond League earlier this year, Chopra had thrown a personal best of 89.94m and had finished second.

The Ioc announced today that the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles will be held July 21 through August 6. The website notes that that start date is only 2,195 days away.
The games will have a gala Opening Ceremony split between Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Exposition Park and SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Mayor Eric Garcetti and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said today.
NBC locked in the full media rights for games in 2028 and 2032 at prices set in 2014. The Games have been a key strategic pillar for NBCU over the past three decades.
Ironically, the Olympic Channel, which NBCUniversal launched five years ago as a destination for its Olympic programming, is going dark on September 30.

The 2022 Beijing Olympics concluded Sunday with icy fanfare, a spirited speech from International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach and an audience count that pales in comparison to previous Winter games.
In overnight numbers, NBC’s Sunday primetime coverage of the closing ceremony gathered a 1.0 demo rating 6.57 million viewers, bringing the least-watched Winter Olympics to what seems only an appropriate ending, ratings-wise. In 2018, the PyeongChang games gathered 14.8 million viewers in final primetime numbers. In 2014, NBC brought in 15.1 million viewers for the Sochi Winter Olympics closing ceremony.
Overall, NBCUniversal tracked an average Total Audience Delivery of 11.4 million viewers each night of coverage across all platforms including NBC, Peacock and USA. This marks a 42% decrease from the 2018 games’ 19.8 million total audience down.
Already looking at record lows overall for Olympic viewing, NBCUniversal has not yet released data for the closing ceremony. When they do, expect metrics from Peacock, the NBCSports app and other...

Despite all the high-tech tricks, political posturing and pyrotechnics, the best part of the Closing Ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics proved to be the athletes.
Competing the past two weeks amidst rising international tensions, pandemic quarantines and with a heavy-handed host, the participants injected a bit of fun this morning into the tightly scripted affair. Following the traditional flag waving parade of nations into the reasonably full Bird’s Nest, American flag-bearer, Elana Meyers Taylor and her fellow masked team members from around the globe let off some stream cavorting on the giant stadium’s floor to a loop of Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Ode To Joy” over the protests of Chinese officials who repeatedly asked everyone to take their seats.
This year’s Winter Olympics was unique in many ways, but it may not be a bad idea for future games to let the actual athletes rule the roost more often.

An NBC Olympics executive said Thursday that the network has not made a request to interview China’s Peng Shuai after the tennis star at the center of speculation over her well-being attended the Beijing Winter Games.
Peng has been at the center of a swirl of controversy since she accused former Chinese Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli of rape last year in a now-deleted social media post. Fans across the world expressed concern when Peng disappeared for nearly a month.
She reappeared recently, however, for a series of seemingly choreographed appearances at the Beijing Olympics. The latest was Tuesday, as she sat with Ioc President Thomas Bach watching American-born skier Eileen Gu, who is competing for China, as she came out on top at the Women’s Freeski Big Air final. She also gave an interview to French outlet L’Équipe with a Beijing Olympics official monitoring the conversation.

Two hours of parading nations later, Ioc president Thomas Bach stood on the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony stage and did his best to justify the Olympic ideal in 2022, a year more surreal than most. “Division, conflict, and mistrust are on the rise,” Bach said. “[But] we show the world, yes, it is possible to be fierce rivals, but at the same time living peacefully and respectfully together.”
This sentiment, nice though it is, might come as a surprise to those in the stadium, those not allowed anywhere near it, and those (like President Joe Biden) who boycotted the Games as a matter of political protest. With the host country under a microscope for reported human rights abuses and a new alliance against the United States with Vladimir Putin’s Russia, NBC had no choice but to alternate its giddy coverage of Team U.S.A. with dire reminders of this particularly fraught world stage.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of this morning’s Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony live on NBC.
A Chinese-hosted Winter Olympics in the Year of the Tiger should have been roaring. Instead, this morning’s Opening Ceremony alternated between boring and brutal.
Officially starting off with a solemn countdown video linking the Beijing Games and the recently launched Lunar New Year festival, the tone of spring rebirth, propaganda and imperial heritage was firmly established. While there were a few moments of beauty and grace, the privileged post given the goose-stepping People’s Liberation Army early on in the opening ceremony said it all.
It was a high-definition LED and fireworks-propelled troika of themes that remained mind-numbingly consistent amidst heightened international tensions and Chinese domestic repression. No wonder Vladimir Putin looked to be asleep in the stands at one point.

Ultimately lacking the Covid catastrophe or shutdown that many predicted, the Tokyo Olympics officially ended today in a near empty somber stadium with little more than a handful of athletes and a Japanese term for “thank you” on the jumbotron

The Tokyo Olympic Games got underway on Friday a year late and after much rethinking — not to mention behind the scene drama and protests. Its opening ceremony, without spectators in the stadium, began in both spectacular and ethereal fashion.
With a mixture of pre-recorded and live performances in the stadium, the ceremony opened with fireworks around the top of the roof-less stadium in indigo, blue and white in the shape of a fan, an auspicious symbol in Japan.
As well as interpretative dances enacting traditional practices from Japanese culture such as woodwork, there was also a sequence with athletes, dressed in white, practising alone across the stadium on exercise equipment including treadmills, rowing machines and stationary bikes with some athletes even working out on imaginary equipment, representing the isolation and challenges represented by the last eighteen months.

In the latest pandemic news to complicate the 2021 summer Olympic Games, the first case of Covid-19 has been reported in Tokyo’s Olympic Village.
The news comes one day after International Olympics Committee president Thomas Bach said there was “zero risk” of athletes infecting anyone outside the sealed-off village housing the athletes. The games are slated to begin on July 26.
“I understand that there are still many worrying factors,” Tokyo Olympic president Seiko Hashimoto said in a news conference on Saturday confirming the diagnosis. “Organizers must try to make sure that people will understand that these games are safe and secure…we are sparing no efforts.”
At the news conference, Hashimoto did not identify the individual or their nationality, but he did confirm that the person was not an athlete but someone involved in organizing the games. Most of the 11,000 Olympic athletes competing in the July 23-Aug.8 games plan to stay in the village.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics, already deeply unpopular in Japan, have come under a fresh wave of criticism.
International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach on Tuesday referred to the Japanese people as “Chinese” during his first public comments after landing in Japan and completing quarantine.
Bach’s speech was intended as a pep talk for the beleaguered Tokyo Games but instead became yet another source of controversy, with local critics saying the gaff was indicative of the Ioc’s repeated lack of respect for the people of Japan.

Lausanne, June 9 (Ians) 'Together' may be added to the Olympic motto Faster, Higher, Stronger should it be approved by an International Olympic Committee (Ioc) session in Tokyo, according to the Ioc.
Ioc president Thomas Bach proposed that "together" be added to the Olympic slogan to better address the challenges brought by the global Covid-19 pandemic after being re-elected in March.
After support from Ioc executive board (Eb) and consultation with the Ioc members, the change will be proposed for approval at the next Ioc session on July 20-21, reports Xinhua.
The Olympic Charter might also see changes as the ongoing Ioc Eb meeting has decided to propose amendments to strengthen the role of athletes.
The amendment requires that National Olympic Committees (NOCs) establish an Athletes' Commission (AC) in line with the Ioc guidelines, and athlete representatives elected by the AC must be included in Noc general assemblies and Noc executive bodies.

Kenya's Tegla Loroupe, Olympian and former marathon world-record holder, will be the team's Chef de Mission.
The selection of the refugee team for Tokyo was based on the athletes' sporting performance and their refugee status as confirmed by the Un Refugee Agency (Unhcr). Personal background and "balanced representativity in terms of sport, gender and regions, were also considered".

Directed by Argentinian genre filmmaker Santiago Fernandez Calvete, The film is a co-production between Aramos Cine and 108 Media. It stars German Palacios, Tomas Carullo Lizzio, Naiara Awada, Lautaro Bettoni and Alfonsina Carrocio.

Tokyo, Jan 21 (Ians) International Olympic Committee (Ioc) president Thomas Bach pledged on Thursday that the Tokyo Olympics will be held as scheduled. Bach said that Ioc is committed to conducting the Games and has "no plan B" although scepticism over the feasibility of the Olympics has increased both in Japan and overseas because of the rise in Covid-19 cases.
Bach assured hosts Japan that Ioc firmly believes the Tokyo Olympics will open on July 23 in the Olympic stadium. "This is why there is no plan B and this is why we are fully committed to making these games safe and successful," he said, Xinhua news reports.

The International Olympics Committee has released a statement saying it will wait up to four weeks to decide the fate of the 2020 games in Tokyo, set to take place from July 24 through August 9. Japan has reportedly invested up to $41 billion in building venues and accommodations for the event according to The New York Times. As of March 20’s Cdc report there were a total of 1,030 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Japan.
“Cancellation is not on the agenda,’’ the statement from International Olympics Committee president Thomas Bach said. “On the one hand, there are significant improvements in Japan where the people are warmly welcoming the Olympic flame. This could strengthen the I.O.C.’s confidence in the Japanese hosts that the I.O.C. could, with certain safety restrictions, organize Olympic Games in the country whilst respecting its principle of safeguarding the health of everyone involved.”
