Exclusive: A little over a month after Season 3 of Resident Alien wrapped its run on Syfy, the future of the quirky sci-fi comedy-drama is up in the air. And there is some intrigue over where the series starring Alan Tudyk would continue should it get a fourth season.
I hear there are talks about Resident Alien moving from Syfy to NBCU cable sibling USA Network, which currently doesn’t have scripted originals besides Chucky, which it shares with Syfy. According to sources, a return to Syfy appears unlikely, so USA is Resident Alien‘s only feasible destination within NBCU, whose UCP division produces the adaptation of the comic book by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse.
But a potential Season 4 pickup by USA would come with a major budget reduction, as much as $500,000 an episode, which will be challenging, I hear.

Turns out, Resident Alien‘s Harry and Asta are like (space)ships passing in the night. “This is an exclusive,” revealed showrunner Chris Sheridan when he and the cast visited TV Insider at the Television Critics Association winter press event in Pasadena last month, as you can watch in the video interview above. “When I pitched [the show], you know, I had to come up with the whole first season and then a little bit of the second season, a little of the third season…I had them getting together in the second season.” Adding that he “knew it was possible it wouldn’t go there,” Sheridan nonetheless had the idea to put Harry and Asta—who do get together in the comic books—in a romance. “They get together, there’s a baby, all this stuff…That was several years before anyone was cast in the show.” Alan Tudyk and Sara Tomko,...

Back in November, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Funny or Die regular Luke Barnett, who co-wrote, acted in, and produced the Christian film industry satire Faith Based, had signed on to star in a thriller called Teacher’s Pet. That project has since made its way through production, and our friends at Bloody Disgusting – along with director Noam Kroll himself – have confirmed that Barnett is joined in the cast by Clayton Royal Johnson (Stranger Things), Kevin Makely (Young Rock), Drew Powell (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Sara Tomko (Resident Alien), Josh Pafchek, genre icon Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator), and newcomers Michelle Torian, Alexe-Anne Godin, and Makenna Ginn.
Kroll wrote a blog entry about the making of the film, complete with behind-the-scenes images, that can be read at This Link. Kroll made his feature directorial debut with the 2012 drama Footsteps and has followed that up with the mystery thriller Shadows on the Road, the thriller Psychosynthesis,...

The following contains mild spoilers for Resident Alien.
Resident Alien is about much more than just Harry Vandesrpiegle (Alan Tudyk), a disguised alien pretending to be human in the town of Patience, Colorado. Yes, there’s plenty of awkward comedy as he tries to blend in and make sense of the oddities of human behavior, but the show also uses his abrasive personality and pointed commentary to illuminate the similar problems many of his neighbors are also dealing with.
That the show gives each and every member of its sprawling cast such clearly defined layers is part of the reason it’s so darn great to begin with, but what makes it truly remarkable is that these characters all have journeys and arcs of their own that exist completely separately from Harry and the threat of alien annihilation. Asta (Sara Tomko) is attempting to build bridges with the daughter she gave up for adoption.

Phoning home is not an option! The titular E.T. (Alan Tudyk) of Syfy’s standout dramedy resumes his second year of inhabiting the body of earthling Harry Vanderspeigle amid the fallout from pal Asta (Sara Tomko) gunning down a shady dude from the real Harry’s past in the second half of Resident Alien Season 2. “Asta is not handling it well,” explains creator Chris Sheridan, adding that things get even messier once her Bff, D’Arcy (Alice Wetterlund), becomes involved. “What’s the saying? ‘A friend helps you move, but a true friend helps you move a body.’” More trouble on tap: That alien assassin (Enver Gjokaj) we met in the midseason finale sticks around, and a feral baby alien (above) runs loose in Patience, Colorado. Harry Vanderspeigle isn’t leaving planet Earth any time soon: Syfy has given Resident Alien an early renewal for Season 3, the cabler announced Thursday.
Based on the Dark Horse comics series of the same name, Resident Alien follows a crash-landed alien (Alan Tudyk) whose secret mission is to kill all humans. In Season 2, “Harry is once again stranded on Earth where he must confront the consequences of having failed his people’s mission to destroy the human race,” reads the official description.

Exclusive: Syfy’s flagship series Resident Alien, starring Alan Tudyk, has been renewed for a third season, which I hear will consist of 12 episodes. The pickup comes ahead of the August 10 premiere of the second half of Resident Alien‘s second season.
The UCP-produced Resident Alien was a breakout for Syfy when it premiered in 2021 and continues to be a strong ratings performer. The hourlong comedy-drama ranks among this year’s top 15 most-watched cable series and top 5 most-watched cable dramas, averaging 2.3 million viewers in L+7. Across all airings, it has reached nearly 11 million viewers and recently received a Hollywood Critics Association nomination for Best Comedy Series.
