Ivan Medek was born on July 13, 1925 in Prague, Czechoslovakia [now Czech Republic]. He was married to Helena. He died on January 6, 2010 in Prague, Czech Republic.
Communist persecution forced him into exile in Austria in 1978. There, he worked for Voice of America, reporting on anti-communist activity in his homeland.
He was also a classical music critic and journalist.
