Let us remember the “American Idol” singers who died too soon as the iconic reality talent competition returns for its 18th season. Among them are fan favorites such as Season 7’s Michael John, who left us in 2014 after suffering from heart disease, and Season 2’s Rickey Smith, who passed away in 2016 after a drunk driver going the wrong way crashed into his car.
Others were memorable oddballs who often made the wrong kind of impression, like Alexis Cohen aka “Glitter Girl,” who auditioned for both Season 7 and 8 without success.

The most recent loss? That would be Haley Smith, who died in 2019 during the Labor Day holiday after being involved in a motorcycle accident. All seven of these hopefuls contributed in some way to making “American Idol” what it is today.

Alexis Knapp, the actress who used to date Ryan Phillippe and is now pregnant, says that Ryan’s offer to give her child support after a paternity test is not good enough. She says she’s struggling financially right now, and wants Ryan to start helping her out immediately with things like medical bills and buying things to prepare for the baby.
Knapp has hired the same lawyer that Kevin Federline had in his divorce from Britney Spears, so clearly she’s serious about getting this money. Ryan says he’s not planning on forking anything over until he knows for sure if the baby is his. Knapp claims there’s zero chance that it’s not his, and she wants to force Ryan to give her money right now.

Ian Benardo, whose audition for American Idol in 2007 was cut short when when it became obvious he had no talent whatsoever, has been spending his effort trying to get a settlement from the show. Benardo claims that American Idol producers told him to “gay it up for the cameras,” which he says he finds offensive now, but apparently he was all for it at the time when he thought he still had a chance at being on the show.
Benardo’s first suit was for $300 million (yes, really). When that failed, he sued again for only $100 million (bargain!). Now that the second suit has been thrown out of court, he’s going back a third time… and only suing for $5 million.

Unlike Idol, there are no winners here. A New Jersey man has been charged in last summer's tragic hit-and-run death of former American Idol hopeful Alexis Cohen. The indictment came down last Thursday. Prosecutors say the 24-year-old Bark was fleeing cops after an earlier accident when he fatally struck the 25-year-old Cohen as she was crossing in the street in Seaside Heights. Jessika Baier, a radio DJ in Jackson, Mi who auditioned for last season's "American Idol," was killed early Tuesday morning in a car accident. She was 21 years old.
According to a statement given to Mlive by police office Sgt. Tony Cuevas, Jessika's vehicle "traveled into the median and struck an embankment, which caused the vehicle to go airborne and overturn." Baier was pronounced dead at the scene.
We actually remember Jessika from the Puerto Rico auditions last year. She sang "I Surrender" by Celine Dion and was a decent singer, but she chose a song too big for her voice. The judges liked her but not enough to send her to Hollywood. However, the audition did lead to a job offer as a local radio host at Jackson's Wkhm-fm (105.3.).
Baier is the second Idol auditionee killed in a vehicle accident this year. Alexis Cohen was struck and killed by a drunk driver in July.

Alexis Cohen may not have been American Idol's brightest star, but she was certainly one of Allentown's. A small, private funeral was held for the infamous contestant in New Jersey this morning, just shy of a week after the 25-year-old was fatally struck in a hit-and-run. Cohen was buried in Keneseth Israel Cemetery in South Whitehall, thanks to donors who both provided a plot and paid for the funeral services for the aspiring singer, who came from a financially strapped background. Cohen's mother, Mindy, with whom the reality star lived, did not speak to media after the service, though Cohen's on-again, off-again boyfriend, James Kern, told reporters she "could take the worst time, as...

More details have come out concerning the death of two-time American Idol wannabe Alexis Cohen, who died over the weekend after being struck by a car in New Jersey. Earlier, it was reported that a man, Daniel Bark, was arrested in connection with the death. And, it seems, sometimes, bad things happen when you're in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Further investigation now reveals that Bark got involved in the hit-and-run after trying to escape police from another accident. Ocean County prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford told The Star-Ledger that Bark was apprehended by a police officer at shortly before 4am last Saturday, when he hit a parked car near a bar. However, the suspect fled, and ended up hitting Cohen.
